Getting Ultra-Smart with the Palm Pixi

The Palm Pixi is here -- codenamed the Eos and the alternately-spelled "Pixie" -- back in April, today, Palm has announced that the Pixi -- a tiny, sleek webOS-based handset -- will be coming to Sprint this holiday season. The phone will hit shelves sans-WiFi (EV-DO Rev. A only here), with 8GB of storage onboard (a nice bump up from the rumored 4GB), 2 megapixel camera (with flash), a full QWERTY keyboard, and a minute, 2.63-inch, 320 x 400 capacitive display (guess they didn't get that HTC memo).

Along with the new handset, Palm will offer five artist-designed back covers in the "Palm Pixi Artist Series" -- similar to Zune Originals and Dell's Design Studio laptops -- which can be purchased separately... of course. Touchstone owners take heart: those backs, as well as a separate black backing that you'll also pay extra for, are all compatible with the accessory. In addition to the hardware, Palm will be introducing a native Facebook app when the Pixi hits, as well as new Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration for Synergy. Right now no date for launch has been set, though Palm says the phone will be ready in time for the holidays. The company is also mum on price, but coupled with the news that Sprint will be slimming the Pre's entry point down to $149.99, we have to assume it's going to be in the $99-or-less ballpark. We had a chance to play around with the new phone, so read on after the break for our initial, early impressions.

In the very first edition of "Oh, Snap!" -- the show where we scoff and scorn and poke fun at bad celebrity fashion -- WHY? Because it's FUN and those crazy stars deserve to be ridiculed!

The Hot Mess runners-up:

#1 - Robin Wright Penn

She's the lucky lady to have washed Sean Penn's dirty laundry for thirteen years and was The Princess Bride, which is just awesome. And she doesn't buy into Celebrityism, which makes her kind of like a REAL PERSON. However, Robin's latest red carpet number is like Queen of the Damned meets cheesy Vegas show host! The mini-dress underneath is adorable, but what's with the full-length vampire "sheath"? Nice try, but no cigar Robin "Sheath" Penn!

#2 - Mischa Barton

It looks like she raided the wardrobe closet of a Jordache commercial! Mischa has a reputation for putting together some wacky ensembles, but a tassled frock under a crayon yellow jacket with matching patent man-shoes? I don't think so, Mischa "Man-Shoe" Barton!

And finally, the coveted Hot Mess Award goes to: Taylor Momsen!

Listen up, Little J. We know you play a little nonconformist-fashion designer-rebel teen in the hit CW series Gossip Girl, but does that mean you have to dress like her in real life! Sounds like a textbook identity crisis to me. But congrats, you've successfully burned our eyeballs with your Hell's Angels vest and bedazzled ostrich trimmed frock. Miss USA contender and this year's Miss California beauty queen Carrie Prejean has really stirred up emotions with her strong opinions on gay marriage and scandalous semi-nude photos that leaked on the Net. Thanks, TMZ! All this scandal caused the co-director of the Miss California USA beauty pageant, Shanna Moakler, to resign in protest over Carrie Prejean's being crowned!

Rumors have been spreading that Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are on the fritz!

Skip wines by the glass and other helpful cash-conserving tips from 'Tastings' Columnists John Brecher and Dorothy Gaiter , including why you should never order the Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio.

Why not indulge in a little buzz and impress your dinner party guests with a homemade Cucumber Squeeze Martini !

Ingredients:

· 4 slices cucumber
· 1 fresh basil leaf
· 2 oz vodka
· 1 oz sake
· Dash lemon juice
· 1 tbsp simple syrup

How to Make It:

1. Muddle cucumber and basil together in cocktail shaker
2. Add ice, vodka, sake, lemon juice and simple syrup
3. Shake well and strain into chilled martini glass
