This week, in a complete departure, the Libertarian Dime had on Bob Otis, time travel researcher and author.

As evidenced by countless books, TV shows and movies, including Star Trek and Quantum Leap, we’re all fascinated by the prospect of time travel and exploring other eras. How close is science to making it possible? And, if we mastered time travel, what could we discover about other ages and peoples? What might we change in history? What might we regret? And where in time would we go first?

Time travel researcher Bob Otis explores such questions about unlocking the secrets to time travel in his fascinating new book, A TESTIMONY OF LIONS.

This was the final episode of the Libertarian Dime as well. Thanks so much for everyone’s support over the last sixteen months.

This past week, for the first time in two months, the Dime planned not to have any guests. Shane, Jonathan and Mike started a round table discussion on current events, the Libertarian Party, and how the two intersect. Later, a listener from the UK rang to discuss government oppression and the conversation drifted into whether 9/11 and 7/7 were inside jobs (they weren’t btw). An interesting show for sure!

Meet Katherine Morrison

This week, angling back to politics, the Dime welcomed to the show, Katherine Morrison, political blogger and internet expert. She talked about Sarah Palin’s recent decision, her time as a McCain supporter, utilizing the internet, and the Iranian situation with regards to Twitter. The Dime thanks Katherine for doing such a great interview while the three hosts all struggled with audio and software glitches.

Katherine Morrison’s most recently published book, AN INDEPENDENT CALL, chronicles her work in the 2008 Presidential campaign and in New Hampshire politics, focusing on her journey from being an Independent New Hampshirite to being a McCain/Palin supporter and volunteer.

Meet CW

For the second week in a row, the Dime featured a non-political show. This week’s guest was Curtis Weaver, aka CW. CW’s bio:

CW talked about his life as a salesman, ethical ways to sell, and offered advice useful to anyone in the sales business. CW’s stories led into a discussion about sales and sales in the internet age, both augmented by CW’s vast experience. A very interesting show, needed in this economy.

Meet Thomas Armour

This week, The Dime took a break from politics to offer something up to our listeners that might help those looking for work, wanting to make a career change, or simply want to advance at a current job. Thomas Armour was our guest and we had a fun time exploring the somewhat simple, yet important concept of listening.

Meet John Egan

The Dime ventured into controversy this past week, welcoming historian John Egan to the show. The topic of this week’s show is whether the swine flu pandemic was intentional, and if so, does it arise from a modern eugenic movement? The source of the modern eugenics according to John Egan? Social Darwinism and its ancestors, atheism and Darwinism. The Dime, of course, defended both atheism and Darwinism, by showing how the eugenics movement simply co-opted Darwinism to further their own racist ideas, that predate Darwin himself. This show is a must listen for anyone interested in the long discredited idea of Social Darwinism.

Episode 62: Meet Lou Illar

This week, the Dime welcomed Lou Illar on the show to discuss his latest book and about gambling in general. The discussion was extremely interesting as Lou outlined how the government has its finger in the gambling pie. In the end, Lou brought it all together and related the government view on gambling to the government view on Wall Street. A definitely interesting show you’ll only hear on the Libertarian Dime.

Lou Illar is at minimum a professor that has through lecture and writings developed a unique cross disciplined perspective of mankind’s intellectual understanding of himself. He has produced two books and a number of published writings as well as the movie Sidekicks. He has taught world history as well as other communication classes on five campuses. He serves to present a unique understanding of applied ethics to stimulate an intellectual inquiry into historical truths and ethics. His latest book Believe Me or Your Lying Eyes advances a History of institutionalized gambling in America at the expense often of our loss of individual rights. Lou has served as a legal expert on intellectual property as well as a strategic marketing consultant for major corporations. As a counterbalance to all of this he has not only worked to fund various charities that support children, but has personally helped disabled individuals through his expert skills in Chinese Martial Arts. This special work with children has been acknowledged by numerous awards and Lou is now referred to as a Martial Art legend

Episode 61: Meet Kevin Kimbrough

This week, Shane, Jonathan, and Mike had on Kevin Kimbrough on to discuss the current situation with the auto companies, Chrysler, Ford and GM. Kevin walked the show through the problems the auto makers were having, misconceptions about American cars, the relationship between the auto companies and related companies, and his fears for the future. Kevin taught the Dime quite a lot about the auto industry. Also, Shane lost his mind and forgot he had co-hosts for large parts of the show.

Kevin’s Bio

A 25 year retail auto industry expert, Kevin quickly climbed the ranks of the industry. At the age of 24 he was recognized as the youngest General Manager of a Ford Dealership in the country at the time. He has gone on to operate multiple Automobile Franchises including, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Chevrolet, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Kia, including owning and operating pre-owned auto dealerships.

Meet Andrew Gray

This week, Shane, Jonathan, and Mike had the pleasure of talking to the chair of the Kansas Libertarian Party, Andrew Gray. Andrew’s bio:

I have been actively involved in LPKS for four years. For the last two years I was 2nd deputy district coordinator. I was elected in March 2009 as Chair for the LPKS at our convention. I am 41 years old and married to wife Sherri. I also have three children. I have been employed by AT&T for 12 years as a support specialist.

Andrew talked about the exciting growth of the Libertarian Party in Kansas, as well as the recent history of the party. It was nice to hear that yet another state has a growing, thriving Libertarian party. The discussion then moved to the recent George Tiller murder and the libertarian view on abortion and violence. An interesting and though provoking show that no one will want to miss!

Glenn Nielsen back again

This week Shane, Jonathan, and Mike had the pleasure of speaking with Glenn Nielsen. Glenn is the recently re-elected chair of the Missouri Libertarian Party and once again, he was kind enough to come back on the Dime and give us a clear and insightful look at libertarianism. This week, Glenn talked about upcoming events that the LPMO will be attending such as the Midwest Fair Tax Rally on June 13, and the Kansas City Gay Pride Festival June 5-7.

The discussion then focused on two current events: The nomination of Judge Sotomayor to the Supreme Court and the case of Daniel Hauser, who has refused treatment for his cancer. It was a spirited discussion that went to the hear of libertarianism and how they apply to the current events. Once again, Glenn did the Missouri Libertarian Party proud.

Meet Ronald Bailey

This week, Shane, Jonathan, and Mike had the immense pleasure of speaking with Ron Bailey of Reason about transhumanism, its many forms, and what it means in a free-market society. We also discussed the political ramifications of transhumanism and what legislation is in the works to guide or hinder the movement, as well as how transhumanism impacts laws and practices that are already in place. The show also briefly touched on issues such as land usage, veganism, and the ethics surrounding knowing your own DNA sequence. It was a lot of fun to do, and the hosts of the Libertarian Dime thank Ron Bailey for allowing them to speak with him for the entire show. A great show, that libertarians and science geeks shouldn’t miss!

X Conference Recap with a Touch of Swine Flu

The conference was reported on by a wide range of media sources, but Joe’s inside look was the most honest you’ll find. The reality is, that no matter what they talk about with Joe, time is too short.

Also, Danielle Bays, the Farm Sanctuary Advocacy & Outreach Manager, was on to talk about the recent swine flu cases, and the effects of factory farming. Quote of the night from her about swine flu: “Remember to wash your hands, as well as thinking about washing your hands of the whole pork industry.”

Choose Responsibility

This week Shane and Jonathan, joined by Mike Fairman, had Michael Giuliani, Executive Director of Choose Responsibility, an organization promoting the lowering of the drinking age from 21 to 18. The topics ranged from prohibition, to federal coercion, to sensible solutions to allowing 18-21 year olds the right to consume alcohol. It was an interesting show about a movement that might just be gaining some momentum in an age where people are starting to resist federal interference in their lives.

This week Shane and Jonathan added Josh Brady on third mic to discuss taxes on both the day tax returns were due and while “Tea Parties” were being “celebrated” all over the country. While it’s clear that the Tea Parties had been co-opted by Republicans, the idea behind the rallies themselves came from libertarian minded people over a year ago. Mike Fairman reported live from the Atlanta Tea Party and was able to provide some insight as the mood and personalities of the rally. It was noted how shoddily CNN covered the rally as well.

Meet Eric Sundwall

Shane and Jonathan talked to Eric Sundwall from Columbia County, NY to discuss his campaign.

Eric Sundwall is a 41 year old IT consultant from Niverville, NY tired of watching the world work the way it does. In 2006 he tried to run for Congress in NY’s 20th Congressional District and was knocked off the ballot by attorney Thomas Spargo representing three disparate clients. Despite collecting over 5200 signatures from people in the district, the NYS Board of Elections determined that he would not be on the ballot. Sundwall took his case to Federal Court, but was unable to convince Judge Lawrence Kahn that the NYS Election Law was unconstitutional.

In 2009, Governor David Paterson appointed elected representative Kirsten Gillibrand to replace Senator Hillary Clinton. A special election is being called and Eric has decided to try and get on the ballot again.

Bill Piper is director of national affairs, responsible for developing and implementing strategies for ending the federal war on drugs. He lobbies Congress in support of cutting drug war waste, preventing drug overdoses and the spread of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C, protecting state medical marijuana programs from federal interference, reforming draconian sentencing laws, and re-prioritizing federal law enforcement agencies.

Also on the show, Ron Paul sounds like a homophobe, and libertarians are domestic terrorists according to Missouri.

2009 Kickoff

To kick off the new year of 2009, Shane and Jonathan spent the show talking about news, Ozzy, and animal adoption issues. Ozzy has recovered almost fully and seems to be on his way to recovery. Next, Shane and Jonathan talked about some upcoming projects as well as the current website update. One of the stories that came up, was one about Obama’s possible purchase of a dog for the White House. This story caused a twenty minute discussion to ensue about the ethics of buy and breeding animals. A great start to to 2009!

Buchman Wrapup

For the last show of the year, Jonathan and Shane had Dr. Joe Buchman on to talk about politics, predictions for 2009, and finally, exopolitics. Once again, Dr. Joe combined the theme of libertarianism with the reality of extraterrestial life. The show was both fun and wide ranging, the perfect way to end 2008. The show was dedicated to Ozzy, Shane's cat who at the time of the recording, had an unknown prognosis after becoming ill. Shane is happy to report that the next day, Ozzy's long term prognosis became quite good.

War on Xmas

Kevin Craig returned once again, during this holiday season, to discuss issues such as the "War on Christmas", gay marriage, and the different types of libertarianism. Theocracy In America?

Meet Nick Gillespie

Shane and Jonathan had the great pleasure of interviewing Nick Gillespie, the current editor of reason.com and reason.tv, and past editor of Reason Magazine. Nick was gracious enough to come on to the Libertarian Dime and discuss the election and other libertarian issues. It was a great interview, where Nick brought a level of intellectualism to the Dime that hasn't been on previously.

The second half of the show was the long running series of trying to convert Josh Brady, currently a Republican, to a Libertarian, or at the minimum a libertarian.

A great show overall that one shouldn't miss!

The One They Don't Want You To Hear

Because of technical problems two weeks prior, that cost the show a very good episode, Glenn Nielsen as back on to talk politics and libertarianism. We touched on the current races, Missouri ballot initiatives, and the freedom implications of the drinking age. Once again, Glenn brought his A game to the show and it made for an interesting and fun show. The title of the episode comes from technical problems that again plagued the recording with Glenn Nielsen, however this time we could put together a coherent show.

Buchman is Back!

Shane and Jonathan celebrated their 25th episode of the The Libertarian Dime! A quick period of remembering was done with a quick look back at the first episode.

Dr. Joe Buchman from Utah then came on to talk about the current "bailout", the future of the country, and economy. The discussion also involved the concept of non-aggression and how it could be related to the eating of meat. Shane is a vegan and extends the policy of non-aggression to animals as well. Joe is off to China in a few weeks, and everyone hopes they can get a show together from China!

Meet William Bower

With Jonathan unable to attend the show, Shane did his first solo show. The focus of the show was the interview with William Bower from PUMA 08. Shane and William had a deep discussion about the Democratic Party's primary, problems with the system, amd problems with Obama. William was also open to the idea of third parties engaging with PUMA members.

The interview was extremely interesting for anyone who wants to learn more in depth about why some people can't support Obama. At the end, Shane speaks out against Ron Paul as well.

In this show, Shane and Jonathan invited Josh Brady back on to talk about the economy and the federal bailouts. Apprehension seemed to color everyone's responses to a serious problem, yet, there remained hope that the economy was not as bad off as the press is saying.

Later, after Josh had left for the evening, Shane and Jonathan brought in a caller from the Talkshow chat room, who came on to ask questions about libertarian philosphy. Despite some technical problems, the discussion was a lot of fun, and hopefully there will be many more.

On this show, Shane and Jonathan invited Josh Brady on to talk about politics, the conventions, the role of third parties, and the vice presidential picks. The discussion started with a mention of 9/11 as the show was recorded on the 7th anniversary of the attack. A deep discussion about third parties then followed. Everyone agreed that Biden was a lousy pick, and that Palin politically was a good pick. Later in the show, Jonathan's fiancee Nic, a geosciences major at University of Arizona came on to talk about Hurricane Ike, and global warming.

A great show that covered so much in so little time. A must listen!

Meet Andy Finkenstadt

In this episode, Shane and Jonathan have an in depth interview with Andy Finkenstadt on his run for Missouri's governor as well as libertarian philosphy. Andy has stron beliefs in personal responsibility, but also looks at things like infrastructure and education as issues the state needs to focus on. It's not so much about management, though, more about leading by example. Andy gave a great interview and will be on many more Libertarian Dimes to come.
