The Palm Pixi has officially arrived, and if you're an avid reader of Engadget (you'd better be), this device should look a little bit familiar to you. Wefirst broke specs and images of the phone -- codenamed Eos and the alternately-spelled "Pixie" -- back in April, when we nabbed what appeared to be a leak of a new, Centro-esque phone headed to AT&T. Today, Palm has announced that the Pixi -- a tiny, sleek webOS-based handset -- will be coming to Sprint this holiday season. The phone will hit shelves sans-WiFi (EV-DO Rev. A only here), with 8GB of storage onboard (a nice bump up from the rumored 4GB), 2 megapixel camera (with flash), a full QWERTY keyboard, and a minute, 2.63-inch, 320 x 400 capacitive display (guess they didn't get that HTC memo).

Along with the new handset, Palm will offer five artist-designed back covers in the "Palm Pixi Artist Series" -- similar to Zune Originals and Dell's Design Studio laptops -- which can be purchased separately... of course. Touchstone owners take heart: those backs, as well as a separate black backing that you'll also pay extra for, are all compatible with the accessory. In addition to the hardware, Palm will be introducing a native Facebook app when the Pixi hits, as well as new Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration for Synergy. Right now no date for launch has been set, though Palm says the phone will be ready in time for the holidays. The company is also mum on price, but coupled with the news that Sprint will be slimming the Pre's entry point down to $149.99, we have to assume it's going to be in the $99-or-less ballpark. We had a chance to play around with the new phone, so read on after the break for our initial, early impressions.

Poor poor poor MySpace. The once giant of online interactivity is slowly being put out to pasture. Last week, MySpace cut nearly 30% of its staff and this week it doesn't look like it's getting much better... Apparently, they are cutting more costs by laying off 300 more employees and closing most of their international offices. Sounds like the death knell for MySpace is finally approaching.

Twitter, however, has not yet begun to see its peak in the online arena. It seems that it just keeps blowing up more and more every day. A recent study also showed that Twitter users tend to purchase more music than non-Tweeters. Over a third of Twitterers claim that they purchase music online and that most of them purchase more music as well. The RIAA is probably happy to hear that some people ARE still purchasing music online. That knocks out one more lawsuit that they just won't have to deal with. Because... you know... the RIAA is so good at suing people for downloading music illegally. So good. In fact, they are so good that they are now suing people who don't even own computers! Yeah, the courts didn't fall for that one guys. New Hampshire resident Mavis Roy was sued recently by Universal Music Group, a member of the RIAA, for illegally downloading and transferring data (ie, music files). Problem is is that she didn't even own a computer! How the RIAA got mixed up in that one is certainly questionable. RIAA FAIL.

Well, you may not have noticed it here on the Internets, but this past weekend marked a significant day in the history of technology. On Friday, June 12th, the United States Government and the FCC officially hit the switch on digital television transmission. For nearly a decade, the FCC has planned to turn off analog TV transmission so that it could use those frequencies for other technologies. In March of last year the government auctioned off a "spectrum" of these airwaves for a record $19.6 Billion dollars to communications powerhouses such as Verizon, AT&T, and Google. But the big question is, are we ready? Apparently, most of us are, but there are still close to 3 million homes in America whose service will cease to exist. That's 3% of the entire television market! Rural areas in the West and inner city markets are affected the most. Let us know how the DTV Transition worked out for you. And in other game changing news, social networking giant Facebook switched the way you know see your page with its Vanity URL program. Saturday morning at 12:01 AM, Facebook began allowing members to choose a URL based on words they chose themselves. So now, instead of a long string of numbers, which made it impossible to easily point someone in the direction of your profile, you can use your name, your company's name, or anything you desire, such as facebook.com/sumidas . Get your Facebook Vanity URL today...before someone else does.

If you're unlucky enough to share a name with a popular journalist, they may already have. Editors at TechCrunch found a leaked memo last week which uncovered Facebook's "Priority List", which showed that Facebook has been playing favorites with certain journalists, close clients, and Facebook employees and allowing them to select their URLs before anyone else. It will be interesting to see some of the choices some people will be left to make.

Nintendo Talks Facebook...on the DSi

Facebook is SO popular that everybody is trying to get it onto their devices so that you can Facebook any time, any where. By the way, I wonder just exactly when "to Facebook" will begin to appear in a dictionary near you. It's probably not far off. At E3 last week, one of Microsoft's big announcements was Facebook integration into its Xbox Live service. Nintendo did something similar, but that announcement got caught up in all the hoopla that came with Project Natal. Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that Facebook will soon be coming to the new Nintendo DSi, which will allow access to Facebook via its wi-fi connection and will be able to upload and post photos taken from the DSi directly to Facebook. Gotta love how things are all coming together these days. All this tech talk makes my brain tired sometimes...or perhaps its the gaming.

Yup. It's official. Playing an excessive amount of video games makes you more tired than someone who doesn't. Maybe that's because you're sleeping less? It took a recent study, though, to prove it. The study, done at the University of Arkansas, concluded that excessive gamers, ie those who spend more than 7 hours a week playing computer games or using the Internet, spend less time in bed than non-gamers. Thank goodness someone finally figured that out. At least now I can rule out excessive watching of Dancing With The Stars or the entire second season of Dexter at 1 in the morning as a cause for sleepiness. Well, seeing as all of us here at Mevio Tech certainly use the internet more than 7 hours a week, I think it's time for a nap. It's time to log off kiddies. After all, we wouldn't want you to lose any sleep over us... ;)

Walt Mossberg, known as one of the three journalists who got the original iPhone weeks before its release, is back again to taunt us with his pre-embargo musings on the latest model of the iPhone. We all know he has one. He mentions, in an article reviewing the Palm Pre no less, that the new iPhone has lots of added features that will stand out above the Pre. Possible updates to the phone include a faster processer, bigger hard drive, better camera, integrated radio tuner, and video capturing.

Last week, E3 set Los Angeles on fire when it returned to its roots as a grandiose showfloor extravaganza. Microsoft debuted Project Natal, a full body motion controller, that has gamers and non-gamers alike drooling and desperate for its release. Sony filled the floor with big and beautiful game titles while Nintendo struggled to maintain focus on its gaming darling, the Wii. But one story that didn't make the major announcements, that may be even more progressive than Project Natal, was in last week's release of the third iteration of the popular franchise, The Sims. The Sims creator Will Wright has always focused on having his Sims world as close to life as possible. In The Sims 3, the creators decided to include the hot button, but definitely real, topic of gay marriage to the mix. You can now marry whomever you'd like in the Sims world. It's a step in the right direction for the often times misogynistic and homophobic world of gaming. Thanks EA.

Finally, the world of search is heating up. With the release of the "computational search" site Wolfram Alpha, people are again thinking...is Google it? The answer to that just might be yes. This week Google released its little known side project, Google Squared, which directly targets the way that Wolfram Alpha is supposed to work. It puts the information you search for into a spreadsheet like format, better used for research. Will Wolfram Alpha take away any of Google's market share? It's unlikely. But Google would rather keep the spotlight on them, just in case.

New iPhone Specs?

Rumors are running rampant about the new iPhone that is slated to come out in July. Some of the specs include a 32GB model of the phone, a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, and double the speed and processing power. The more intriguing rumored specs, the ones that I really want to see, are a built in FM radio transmitter and a glowing Apple logo on the back. Oh yeah...

AT&T to Hit 4G...by 2011?!

AT&T is preparing to speed up their network to a new 7.2Mbps HSPA network, which roughly translates to about 3.5G. It's double the capacity that AT&T currently provides, but is only a "prelude" to the future 4G network that they plan on rolling out in 2011. Seems awfully far away given the exponential speed in that tech seems to grow. Also rumored is that the newest iPhone 3G will have a 7.2Mbps 3G chipset from Infineon that will automatically use the added speed when it exists on the local 3G network.

She states that "if there's boatloads of money and the right technology involved, we'd do a deal, sure." Funny. Sounds just like every ex-boyfriend I've ever had... ;)

Speaking of power couples and break-ups, AOL and Time Warner have officially called it quits. Back in 2000, this merger was hailed as "the deal of the century", as AOL acquired Time Warner for $164 BILLION dollars. And what a bust that was. Soon thereafter, people dubbed the deal "the Worst Deal of the Century" as AOL's inability to keep up with technological trends and to monetize the vast wealth of subscribers they had bogged down both companies' ability to make money. Where was the pre-nup for this one?!

Ronald Arkin, a professor of computer science at Georgia Tech, is in the first stages of developing an "ethical governor," a package of software and hardware that tells robots when and what to fire.

Harvard Law professor Charles Nesson is headed to federal court this summer to defend an accused file-swapper, and he plans to mount a novel defense: P2P sharing is simply "fair use."

WTF - Friday Gaming Edition

It's Friday and time for WTF Friday Gaming Edition. Brooks and Carlos have lots of gaming goodness for your viewing pleasure today including:

	1. Free MMO Runes of Magic reaches 1 million registered users: The free mmo Runes of Magic recently announced that it had reached 1 million registered users. This is a very good milestone for a free to play mmo. KOTAKU
	2. New Bioshock 2 footage: IGN recently posted a long video devling into Bioshock 2, showing you the character of the Big Daddy that you are playing this time around. IGN
	3. Is the PS3 getting a redesign? Rumors and images have surfaced recently about a redesign to the PS3 that will proportedly be announced at E3. The images is grainy and blurry, so we'll leave it up to you to decide if it is legitimate. CNET
	4. Sony had a bad fiscal year for '08. Reports are out for the previous fiscal year, and things weren't looking good for Sony. The company reported a loss of $1 billion dollars for fiscal year '08. Also, while PS3 software sales were up for last year, hardware sales were down. CNET - SONY HAS $1B LOSS KOTAKU - PS3 SOFTWARE SALES KOTAKU - PS3 HARDWARE SALES

WTF - Wednesday News Edition

WTF is back, and here is Brooks and Carlos with some hot tech news stories.

	1.Wisconsin court upholds GPS tracking by police. Wisconsin police can attach GPS to cars to secretly track anybody's movements without obtaining search warrants, an appeals court ruled. This comes after police secretly placed a GPS tracking device on the car of a suspected stalker, who claimed that the use of the device violated his Fourth Amendment right against unlawful search and seizure. CHICAGO TRIBUNE
	2. The New York Timeslaunches 'Times Wire'. The New York Times recently launched a new news portal called Times Wire that is basically an RSS feed of its news stories. Although according to Tech Crunch, it isn't as timely as it could be. TECH CRUNCH
	3. AT&T to buy some Alltel assets for $2.35 billion. A judge in the Verizon/Alltel merger told the telecommunications giant that it couldn't keep all of the assets it would gain from it's merger with Alltel. It was ordered to divest itself of some of those assets, and Verizon is planning to sell them to AT&T for an estimated $2.35 billion dollars. This will gain AT&T an estimated 1.5 million subscribers in 79 service areas, mostly rural areas in 18 states. YAHOO NEWS
	4. AT&T may do away with unlimited data plans, iPhone to blame. The explosion of interest and use in the iPhone, espcially it's ability to connect to a large amount of data has caused some headaches for AT&T. It has cost them billions of dollars in infrastructure improvements, and as such, there are rumors that the telecom may due away with it's unlimited data package. WALL ST JOURNAL

New Kindle and the Blackberry is King

Hey guys, it's Thursday, welcome to MEVIO Tech. Brooks is coming at ya with some of the latest and greatest tech stories.

First up: The Amazon Kindle DX is coming, and it has grown.

The new Kindle will feature:

• 9.7-inch E-Ink screen (1200 x 824 with 16 shades of grey)
• 1/3 of an inch thick (10.4" x 7.2" x 0.38")
• 4GB Storage for 3,500 books (a bump from 1,500)
• Unspecified but "long" battery life
• Native PDF support through built-in reader
• Automatic landscape/portrait text rotation
• Line length adjustments (determine the width of text on the screen)
• Navigation buttons moved to right side of screen only
• EVDO (of course) for 60-second book transfers

You can get all of this for around $500. Available sometime this summer.

A list of the top 5 selling smartphones was released this week, and RIM's Blackberry was the top seller. To be fair though, there is a bit of a caveat. Of the top 5, three of the spots were taken with three different Blackberry models, whereas the iPhone only had one model. Also,Verizon has helped push Blakberrys with it's recent buy one get one free promotion.

Disney joins Hulu: LINK

Hulu has a new investor...the House of Mouse. Disney joins the ranks of fellow media giants NBC and News Corp who have already bought into the new video site. It's a move that might make the suits at YouTube sit up and take note.

Palm Pre Pixie: LINK

According to TechCrunch, the new mini-Pre that's been mentioned all over the interweb is being called the Pixie, apropos given the rumored petite candy bar form factor. It has a tasty rumored price as well...$99.

Digitizing ancient tablets: LINK

THe Oriental Insitute at the University of Chicago will be digitally encoding thousands of ancient tablets. Having the old world in modern form will help researchers study the tablets as if they were physially holding them. Not to mention possibly offer up a new perspective and achive them nicely.

WTF - Friday Games Edition

It's the end of another week and time for the MEVIO Tech WTF Ftiday Games Edition.

Brooks and Carlos played some recent demos for the Xbox 360, and they bring you the highlights:

REVIEWS:

Ninja Blade: So this was a lot more fun that I thought it would be. I heard some comments about the game being so much of a cookie cutter game that I thought my jaded gamer would take hold and I'd be bored. But being a cross between ninja gaiden and god of war is alright in my book.It was non-stop action out of the box, and while the dialogue was nothing to write home abou I just dug the scenarios (sprinting DOWN a building cutting aliens/monsters=awesome). -Carlos

UFC Undisputed: I am a UFC freak fan--love this damn sport and knew I'd like the game (after enduring so many awful ufc games). I wasn't dissapointed. As you see by my head kick knockout it has some amazing finishes. Although the ref doesnt seem to stop the fight soonenough if im beating the snot out of some guy and he ISNT defending himself. Besides that everything in this demo was rad. Oh and its got boob physics. For what that's worth. -Carlos

Red Faction Guerilla: So I remember Red Faction on the PS2 and it was a first person shooter with realistic physics (so if you blew up a section of a building or wall you could see real time breaking apart of stuff). We start this game hoping for multi-player and no option for it to be found. So I start up a one player game and im in third person..with an axe. On mars? We jump through the cut scenes and I do the classic carlos try everything thats possible and kill a fellow coworker and smash some equiptment. Hey..they gave me an axe. Then I truck-jack a big vehicle and proceed to smash things up (with real time collision physics). I drove the truck into a building and went through the other side. At some point I got out of the vehicle and handed the controller over to brooks and told him to try and reason with the town. Now that I had angered them quite sufficiently.

Oh and there 'was' some shooting in the game, but ..yeah it was basically grand theft auto mars. -Carlos

3. Man charged $62,000 for downloading movie while in Mexico.

A man who was in Mexico downloaded a the movie WALL-E for his nephew while in Mexico using his laptop with a wireless connect card. His carrier charged the man $62,000 in roaming charges, which when they were confronted they offered to reduce to the cost of bandwidth. However, they claimed that that cost was $17,000.

4. NEC to merge with chip maker. NEC and semiconductor maker Renesas are in talks to merge their companies. They say this is a defensive merger in order to better compete in the Japanese market, as well as against top companies Intel and Samsung.

5 Nerdtastic Summer Movies

What's up peoples?
It's Wednesday, and it's day one of this weeks WTF.

For today Brooks and Carlos bring their top five upcoming Nerdtastic summer movies.

#5: X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Leading up to the events of "X-Men," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

#4: Star Trek
The greatest adventure of all time begins with "Star Trek," the incredible story of a young crew's maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind.

#3: Terminator: Salvation
In the highly anticipated new installment of "The Terminator" film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

#2: Moon
Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement.

But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar.

Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It's more than his contract that is set to expire.

#1: Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince
Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! And then there's Hermione, simpering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

There are a few other great films coming up in the next few months, so it is a good summer for the geek in us all.

Welcome to Tuesday here at MEVIO Tech. Brooks is here with some new and exciting tech knowledge for you.

First up:

Are you wanting to try and shed off some of those winter pounds. Well if you own a Wii, EA might have just the thing for you. It is called EA Sports Active, and it contains 25 exercises that you can do at home according to your schedule. It comes with the Wii software, resistance band, and leg strap. It is also compatible with the Wii Balance Board (sold separately).

Speaking of the Wii, some early Wii controller prototypes were discovered in a patent application. You can see the progression, and te avenues of thought that Nintendo were considering before adopting the design we know today.

Blu-Ray is a great system, but for most the price remains too high. If rumors are to be believed though, tat won't be a problem for much longer. There are reports that Chinese manufacturers and getting ready to flood the market with cheap Blu-Ray players as soon as this upcoming holiday season.

First up for you chocolate lovers:

The EOS by Kyocera was shown off at CTIA recently and folds up into a wallet-shape, but folds out into two configurations: a portait QWERTY mode, and a fullscreen widescreen OLED. That's wild enough, but they also envision keys that use shape memory that morph flat when not in use. Kyocera plans to this concept in the "near future."

YouTube is partnering with CBS/Viacom, Sony, and others to bring full length movies and TV shows to the site. This seems to be a way to strengthen their credibility as an online video site, and not just a place to see people doing stupid stuff. Xbox Live Arcade and Community Game Previews

WTF!!!!!!

It's Wednesday, and it's the first day of the MEVIO Tech WTF (or Wed.-Thurs.-Fri. for the uninformed).

Because it's Wednesday, that means it's another XBOX Live game preview. Carlos has the latest games coming out on XBOX Live this week, XNA, and also a little extra gaming info for your brain.

First up is a new XBLA game from Konami called Zombie Apocalypse. As you can tell from the title, this is a game where you blow away hordes of the undead. The is a top down isometric view that features:
    * Killer Environments – Use the environmental hazards to crush, burn, slice, or cause many other types of destruction on the zombie masses
    * Trigger-mortis - 11 devastating weapons are at your disposal to blow the heads of the living dead or when your trigger finger is tired use the chainsaw to eviscerate them in a more up close and personal manner

Next up is an interesting Puzzle Quest type game from Atlus, usually know for bringing Japanese roleplaying and such games over the the US. The game, called Droplitz, tasks you with getting water from one end of a pipe to another.

Next for the old school fans in the audience, we have an update of an old SEGA arcade classic. Outrun is a fun arcady racing game where you rocket through the tracks, whipping around corners. About as fun as you remember, but now with a new gen sheen on the graphical side.

    Hello, and welcome to Thursday. This is Mevio Tech. Brooks and Carlos bring you the top tech stories of the day.

    Starting off...the Facebook/Twitter battle of the ages rolls into round two, as a new desktop client has thrown its hat into the Twitter ring. Seesmic Desktop is a new desktop Twitter client from Seesmic (the same company who also released the popular Twhirl Twitter client). It seems to be positioning itself as a rival for Tweetdeck . It has a very simple design, but it's best feature is the ability to use multiple Twitter accounts, which a lot of people have been waiting for in a desktop Twitter app.

    Speaking of Tweetdeck , they have also released an update to their desktop app. It adds many new functions and fixes, especially in the area of resource management. It is now not so much of a memory hog. It has better support for short urls, and the feature that warms Brooks heart: better integration with Facebook without having to jump through complicated hoops.

    Moving on to Facebook , CEO Mark Zukerberg announced on his blog that Facebook has now reached the 200 million user milestone. Along with the post, he release a video and a heat map showing the growth of Facebook as more users joined, where in the world they were joining from, and how they are using it.

    This round seems to have ended in a draw again. We will see who will ultimately reign supreme.

    Moving on... GM and Segway recently announced a joint collaboration to create a two-person urban mobility vehicle, named P.U.M.A. , or Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility. The vehicle seats two people, is battery powered and will run 35 miles on a single charge, and has a top speed of 35MPH. In the end it is basically a two-person Segway, but with a steering wheel. It might be nice, but I would love to see it try to deal with some of the hills here in San Francisco.

    Brooks and Carlos wrap things up with a story about quantum computers, which for the moment are still out of our reach technologically. A group of designers and developers have come together to discuss where they would need to go, and have come to the conclusion that we would have to fundamentally change the way that software is written when the time comes.

First up is the Health Game Timer for your Nintendo DS.

What is a Health Game Timer? Well, I’ll ‘attempt’ to explain. So when using the DS you tend to keep the device close to your face, right? Well to prevent you from staring at your little screen of gaming delight for too long, the Game Timer will shut off your DS for you once you’ve logged a certain amount of time gaming. You can set the timer for either 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. There is also a sensor that can gauge how close you are to the screen itself and the device will beep if you get too close.

I’m confused by this device, but I’ll cut it some slack since I feel it’s trying to do some good. ….. somehow.

Second up is a slightly more practical device, the wrist cellphone. Well … ok, maybe not more practical but cool nonetheless.

Neutrano will soon be selling a 400 dollar dick tracy-esque watch-phones. Each device will be equipped with a color touchscreen, music player, 1.3 mexapixel camera, Bluetooth, and email and messaging capabilities. I’ve been covering gadgets since 1998 and I can’t tell you how many of these I’ve seen. They never seem to take off. Maybe it’s because it’s not terribly cool to talk into your wrist. Or … is it?

Lets take a quick look at the watches being shown off.

Harvard Law Professor Charlie Nesson has been shaking things up in the world of Peer to Peer and copyright law. According to a recent Ars Technica article, Nesson has raised the idea that P2P file sharing is fair use and therefore... (wait for it) legal. Neeson's arguments seem to be at odds with current US copyright law. Neeson's response? Quote 'seems to me to be an understandable principle that it's okay to consume and share nonrivalrous good which are available on the net for free.' You get that? I think there are some artists & record labels out there who might have a word or two for Professor Neeson.

Onto new applications and software ... Digg has just released its Digg Bar. It's a toolbar that's tailored to the twitter generation - y'know people that like short URLs and quick messages and comments. How do you get the toolbar? Simply type digg.comin front of any URL and you're on your way. The new toolbar will pop up on the top of the page allowing you to start digging. Also provided are stats, number of views, comments, and related stories. Pretty cool.

And lastly ATT+T will be rolling out wireless broadband laptops.

Going beyond cell phones the company announced last week at a trade show in Las Vegas that they're looking to expand into other gadgets. Not a big surprise, given the cell phone market is reaching a saturation point.

Just as it does with its phones ATT+T will subsidize (to a pretty big extent) the cost of the laptops when the customer signs up for the familiar and I think it's fair to say mildly despised (said funny..robot ish) 2-year agreement. Prices mentioned were 50 dollars for a netbook type laptop and service plans around 60 bucks.

That's a pretty cheap laptop though, especially in these .. I know I'm tired of hearing it too ... tough economic times, it might prove to be quite the crowd pleaser.

Last story of the say is that Skype is now playing on iPhones near you. Our very own Cali Lewis of GeekBrief TV has the scoop.

Welcome to the Friday Games Edition of Mevio Tech. Today, it’s all about the Playstation…mainly because, well, Sony made it that way. There was all this hype going around the Intarwebs this week speculating that Sony was finally going to drop the price of the PS3. I mean. They even had Cali fooled.

Maybe it was Sony’s attempt at an April Fool’s prank, but the announcement actually had to do with the price of the PS2 dropping.

I wasn’t really sure how dropping the price of the now-dated PS2 would help Sony out…seeing as there’s generally only a few games released for it each month, most of which being movie tie-ins, sports games, or PSP ports. Luckily for me… we have Kotaku. A recent post explains how lowering the price of the PS2 puts it in direct competition with the Wii for casual gamers and how, ultimately, these gamers should and will graduate to the PS3. Makes sense I guess!

Well if you are a PS3 owner, then I highly suggest you download the latest version of the firmware, version 2.70, just released this week. Some of the new features include Text Chat (with up to 15 gamers at a time), a friends list on the XMB, and improved storage solutions for video content. What I love about Sony’s PS3 updates is, well, they do all the work for me!

Nothing better than getting something for free, right? Which is exactly why you all should be watching GamesweaselTV this week because it might be your last chance to get a copy of Wheelman for the PS3…for free!

The answer? 32% of these guys said they’d rather play videogames. 32%!! And if you think that’s bad…they went further by asking another question. Which would you prefer? Sex with your partner…or an evening of playing a NEW video game? Go on… Take a guess. I’ll wait.

If you guessed 72%, you’re a winner!!! Or…a loser… 72% of guys…in relationships…said they’d rather play a new video game…than have sex…

I’m still trying to figure out why you can’t have your cake and eat it too. But I guess that’s just how I roll.

Welcome back to another fun-filled episode of Mevio Tech. I hope. If the world has survived the Conficker virus, then I'm glad to be right here with you. I'm your host Brooks Rowlett. Now I have to admit, I did steal that intro idea from Cali and the gang, but just couldn't resist. Heroes is a huge phenomenon and, while it seemed to have been suffering from the infamous sophomore slump, things are looking up and the show is piquing our interest, yet again. Cali is definitely a fan and recently got to interview a couple of the shows stars. Watch closely as Cali goes from fan...to fangirl...in these clips from GeekBrief TV.

That's hot. Heroes and villains have definitely been a hot topic over the past couple of years. The popularity of superhero movies and the reemergence of comic book readers has been staggering. This year's Wondercon was no different...and one of it's regulars explains why she thinks its for the better...

First on agenda is a story about a game developer who took a unique approach to showing off his new game. He brought in a large audience of people and demoed a LAN type game at an early stage in development. Let's see how it went...

Ok April Fools, to you and well a lot of people that day. The developer's name is Tristan Newcomb and he actually crafted an elaborate hoax to fool, bewilder, and amuse a room full of very confused people. The idea was to create a game so bad, complete with awful sound effects, gameplay, and graphics that it was .. well ... laughable. Newcomb actually recorded the entire video before hand and then orchestrated a fake play-through of the game. Pretty april fools-like.

Ok .. so how can we have a april fools day show without the onion showing up?

I actually think they're right. Me playing reseident evil 5 for a whole weekend upped my zombie killing skill big time. I think I could handle myself in a apocalyptic environment.

We start our journey into odd-ville with a toy that's reinventing a classic.
Lets take a little stroll down memory lane first, shall we.

Yes they are brining back the Rubiks Cube, but now with a digital bent.
The object of the game is the same, but the Touch Cube has no moving parts. The touch sensitive squares respond to different finger swipes. Also included are an accelerometer and most importantly, a hint button.

Now it's a bit pricey, around 150 bucks, but it would definitely be a conversation starter.

From toy gadget we move on to music gadget. Japanese designers have created a new type of instrument called the Tenori-on (translated means 'sounds on the palm'). It's 8 inches in diameter and allows techno music lovers to get their groove on by justtouching or sliding the touch-sensitive surface.

LED light indicators help guide you as you tap and draw new tunes into existence.
You'll even be able to download samples to remix and mix via your PC.

Last gadget of the day is not really a gadget but an unusual iphone app.

Mugen Pop Pop Toy was originally an addictive little keychain gadget that gave you strangely satisfying sensation of hearing little pockets of air popping, just like that bubble wrap you always find yourself snapping after opening your electronic gifts.

The iPhone app has a twist in that it has different play modes, and adds special surprise sound effects here and there. It's kinda like the Pringles ad - once you Pop you can't stop. Trust me!

In Microsoft Apple news comes the story of Charlie Miller. He's a security expert whose meticulously crafted exploit took over a MacBook through a web browser in 10 seconds at a hacking competition. Miller recently said that macs are indeed safter than PC's.

The basic reason why the Mac is safer is simply because there's much less malware out there for the OS. So while it may be a breeze for someone like Charlie, to break the OS X system, it's actually a rare target for hackers.

So bottom line. Macs are safer BUT could also easily be hacked. Quite the double edged result.

Continuing with the Mac vs PC debate, Microsoft has launched a new ad that offers some quick insight on the price of macs. Let's take a look.

Now if you're like me and not exactly rolling in it, this is a familiar predicament. You need a new laptop and you don't have the luxury of spending upwards of $2,000. This commercial is not so much a a stab at the competition. It seems to focus on the price difference, which a lot of consumers are very conscious about these days, so it could end resonating with potential customers. But as the owner of a 4 year plus old Mac that's on it's last legs, I have to add, that it all depends on what you want to do with your computer.

Lastly, we have to mention that Twitter announced last week it WILL begin offering paid accounts that offer enhanced features. The new pro service will be available this year, but the company will always provide a free version as well.

Without knowing what any of these features actually are it's hard to say if the paid version will be of any worth to most users, but hey if they can make some extra cash we might not get that dreaded fail whale as much.

Now if you recall we mentioned a story about Amazon.com creating a new system for gamers to trade in their games for online credit. The buzz around this brought up the idea that Gamestop and other brick and mortar businesses might soon be in trouble. A giant like amazon entering the space can make a pretty big dent.

Why would someone want to get all dressed up, find parking, and stand in line with the rest of the masses to trade in a game when they could very well just stay home and do it?

However, not taken into consideration are the various trade-in specials that Gamestop offers. Just check out a quote from a recent study done by Electronic Entertainment Design And Research.

Quote "In scenarios where a consumer either owns the GameStop Edge card and/or trades in more than 2 titles that takes advantage of the current GameStop trade-in promotion GameStop provides a considerably higher value than Amazon."

people want instant gratification and shipping off games and awaiting credit for the long distance transaction is ... pretty much the opposite of that.

In new game news an upcoming game that has quite a few of us nerds/gamers happy is the trailer for the new game from The Behemoth, makers of Castle Crashers.

Most everything is unknown about the game except that it is due out in 2010 and is some sort of cooperative platformer. Lets check out the trailer.

Now everyone remembers the 80's scare-pop movie Ghostbusters and if you owned a Nintendo back then you might remember this as well

Well the next installment, most likely a better game than that (sarcastically), is coming out soon. The game is being billed as the latest story in the movies series, not just as a standalone game. Let's take a quick peek at a recent interview our very own Gamesweasal TV did.

Good Wednesday morning, techies. I’m Brooks and, of course, you’re watching Mevio Tech. Now, microwavable pizza has been around for sometime, but not to the extent that it’s been done in movies like Back To The Future….yet that is. Unfortunately, not everyone has the optimism that I do. John always ruins the fun!

Let’s get started with something every iphone owner needs. Urban McHughly.
This new iPhone covering looks like, well a little guy of some sort and has eyes that light up when someone calls. Just what I always wanted, a toy for my iPhone to sit inside of that will be my best friend and make me the life of the party.

Next up is something I think I’d ‘actually’ want, a usb-powered lunchbox. This nifty little lunchbox can warm up your meals for when you just can’t get away from your computer. No more vending machine visits when you are strapped for time. How about some chicken and rice instead. Mmmm

Next up – drum machine on a t-shirt.

I don’t know what else to say about that except how do you wash it? That dude might rock out good, but he also might end up smellin a bit funky.

And lastly lets check in with our very own Cali Lewis and her show Geekbrief TV as she discusses her love of tech gadgets in the form of mini-helicopters?

I can see why they might have crashed em a couple times. They look fast and intense.
Back when I was growing up … (record scratch) well let’s just say we didn’t have those particular gadgets. Ours required a bit more creativity. Internally.
