It's November! But mercifully we're not raking Thanksgiving over the coals again! There's lots of new music this fall, and we're personally delivering it to your iPod. First up are new tracks from Venus Hum and an interview with Tony Miracle about their album Mechanics & Mathematics. In What's the Best Show on Television? we talk about our fascination with Project Runway. Mari brings a lovely seasonal tune, and just when you think you can't take any more, we delve into freshly released music by Compact Space. Finally, we beg for votes for The Sleep, cause even though it's an honor to be nominated, winning would be nice, too.

Chocolate Waffles for Lurry Dean

1-½ c cake flour (sifted)
1 Tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
4 Tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup chocolate syrup (plus extra for drizzling)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup sugar
¾ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
vanilla ice cream

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl and set aside.

Melt butter in a medium size bowl. Add ½ cup chocolate syrup and mix until combined. Let cool.

In a large bowl, combine 2 eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla. Stir thoroughly.

Add in the chocolate mixture and stir until combined.

Add chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir just until smooth.

Heat waffle iron to a medium setting. Spray with cooking spray before each batch. These are very soft, and burn easily.

Texture of waffle will be like a soft brownie. Top with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Recipes:

Cheese Ball
1-8 oz. package light cream cheese
4 oz. of packaged deli roast beef (those little flat packages of pressed and processed stuff)
1 Tablespoon minced onion
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
parsley flakes or toasted chopped nuts (almonds or pecans are good)

Mix ingredients well. Form into a ball. If desired, roll in parsley flakes or chopped nuts and then chill. Serve with you favorite crackers and let the fun begin!

Microwave Caramel Popcorn
3-4 quarts of popped corn (approx. 4 snack size bags of microwave popcorn)
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick of butter
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
large paper grocery bag

Pop the corn. Place in the paper bag and set aside.

Combine sugar, butter, corn syrup, and salt (NOT THE BAKING SODA YET!) in a large microwave-safe bowl. Cook on high in the microwave until butter is melted and mixture comes to a boil. Mix completely, then microwave an additional 2 minutes on high.

Remove from microwave and stir in baking soda. Mix well. Mixture will form tiny bubbles and lighten in color. Mix well.

Pour the syrup over the corn in the paper bag. Stir a bit with a long handled spoon to get it going. Then close the bag and shake it around a while to mix well.

Put bag into the microwave and cook on high for 2 more minutes. If it won’t fit in the microwave, you can skip this step and it will still be good.

Give it one final mix and then pour it out into a huge bowl on onto a cookie sheet and let it cool. Or burn you mouth eating it right away because that is when it tastes the best.

Recipe for Christmas Coffee
10 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks, broken in 2 or a dash of ground cinnamon
3/4 cup ground coffee
1/4 cup sugar (add more or less, to taste)
4 1/2 cups cold water
Whipped cream

Place whole spices and coffee in the brewing basket of automatic drip coffee maker. Place sugar in the empty carafe.
Brew coffee using the 4 1/2 cups water. Mix before serving to make sure sugar is dissolved.
Top each serving with lots of whipped cream.
