Social engineering is a method used by hackers to manipulate you into giving them your personal information. When you receive emails or SMS messages with web links, you should think twice before clicking on that link (through your mobile device or your computer). If you allow your personal information to be left on voicemail, consider how secure is the access to the voice messages. Hackers can spoof you caller ID. If you can retrieve your messages with ONLY your caller ID, you are vulnerable. Simply put a PIN on your voicemail account.

Beware of malware in the apps you download to your mobile devices. Android is especially vulnerable because it uses an open OS. Fortunately, Google has added a layer of security called Bouncer. Bouncer analyzes new and existing apps in the Android Market for known malware, spyware, and trojans. But you should take the additional step and protect yourself. There are many formats available for eBooks - ePub, PDF, TXT, docs, mobi, and AZW. The standard is ePub, which works on most devices, except the Amazon Kindle. ePub and PDFs are the best formats compatible with most devices. Unfortunately, PDFs are set font size so you would have to zoom in to increase font size.

If a dedicated reader is desired, you can get an eReader like an Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, or Sony Reader. When considering which one is right for you, the difference may be the screen type. Older readers use e-Ink screens that makes reading easier than LCD screens. With many mobile carriers available, how do you know which one is right for you? These are considerations for selecting a US mobile carrier.

Solution #1

In the US, there are two technologies - GSM and CDMA. The technologies are not compatible. GSM uses SIMs; CDMA does not. SIMs can be moved from one phone to another when you change phones, making it easier to change phones. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM while Verizon and Sprint use CDMA. Also, consider the carrier’s coverage of the area you are in. The carriers do publish their coverage map but personal experience and recommendation (from friends, family and co-workers) is even better. In the US, there are other carriers who lease capacity from major carriers who have built networks. These carriers are called Mobile Virtual Network Operators. Boost Mobile and Jitterbug are examples of these types of operators. Boost Mobile focuses on the younger demographic while Jitterbug focuses on seniors. AT&T Wireless

Different carriers will offer different phones. If you must have a particular phone, the choice of which carrier to use may be made for you. The cost of a phone can be cheaper if you commit to a 2-year contract.

There are a few things to consider when choosing a plan - “Friends and Family” minutes that do not count toward your phone minutes, data plan or not, and 3G or 4G or WiMax, or HSPA (speed of data network). 4G is much faster than 3G but it is generally not available everywhere 3G is. 4G can download up to 100Mbit/second while WiMax can go up to 128Mbit/second. What does it take to shoot video on the go? We’re taking you behind the scenes of how we make My Mobile Life.

The first important aspect of any video is lighting. If there is sunlight, we need to direct it appropriately (towards Cali, of course) with a Neewer reflector. If there is not enough light, we use a small but powerful portable light panel from Cowboy Studio. Neewer reflector

We typically record 2-4 episodes on a single shoot so the shows are written in advance. During the shoot, we use the ProPrompter HDi2. It’s lightweight and perfect for our mobile, on-the-go shoot. ProPrompter HDi2

Of course, camera and audio are also key. We use the Canon 5D for the quality of the picture with sharp colors and shallow depth of field. The Canon Vixia is also used but we prefer the Canon 5D. Because we’re on the go, audio is captured on the Sennheiser lavalier mic attached to Cali. However, the best audio can only be captured with a shotgun mic.
