A few months ago I discovered the band Hussle Club as a warm up act for a Peter Murphy show. Hussle Club is fronted by Prince Terrence who has previously played drums for a number of bands including Santogold. Prince Terrence is from Detroit so the interview was kind of like a going home celebration for him. While Hussle Club are still finding their sound, from there ep, they are off to a strong start. Their songs range from dark rock tracks to more upbeat dance.

MPAD#308 "Paper Diamond Explosion"

This week's episode is an interview with Paper Diamond and a review of his show with some of my commentary on the dubstep scene. Paper Diamond is electronic musician Alex B. who also produces hip hop, runs a music label and has a clothing line. He's a DIY artist in the truest sense and a real inspiration to talk with. His live show is a spectacular vision of lights and aggressive dance music. I'll capture that part of it for you in a separate video. In my commentary on dubstep I talk a bit about taking photographs at shows. Here's a photograph from the show that's an example of what I'm referring to with the enthusiasm of the people that attended the show.

MPAD#307 "The Aquanettes"

The Aquanettes are a Detroit area band comprised of three women that have a powerful surf-rock and punk sound with an ambition to be heard. I came across them through Tania, their bass player, who also plays keyboards in Blockhead, a Devo cover band. Tania mentioned she played bass in this all girl puck band, the Aquanettes, that I should check out. A couple of months later, I'm at a show at Callahans, a bar in Auburn Hills, that usually has attracts an older blues rock crowd. On this night, along with a burlesque show that I can't even hint at how cool it was. Meanwhile, I can give you the lowdown on the Aquanettes who really put a real kick into the night's show. The video is only a small glimpse of the conversation I had with the ladies, we talked on other topics and even had a fan asking questions of the band. Maybe a part 2 video is called for...

I remember meeting Julian Smith way back in 2006(?) at an early Podcasting Convention. Talk a look at the cover for this week's show. That's Julian and I back in the early days of podcasting when the internet was our oyster. We've both come a long way since then, I've got over 300 podcast episodes and Julian has a multitude of social media and blogging adventures he's been involved in. His latest venture is The Flinch, a self help book available free from Amazon's Kindle store. The book is a philosophical approach to overcoming your fears, whatever they may be, so that you achieve the things you really want out of life. We also talk about Julian's days as a podcaster and tips for writing a book for the Kindle store. The music in the episode is indie hip hop from mix tapes that I listened to in 2011.

MPAD#305 "Rubik"

I'm starting off 2012 with a video interview I should have probably gotten out in 2011, I guess time flies when you're having fun. This video is with Rubik, an indie pop band from Finland that combine elements of pop with catchy melodies and the epicness of progressive rock. They have been around with since late 1990's but they sound continually fresh with compelling instrumentation. I caught them on tour with Lights in October. What was funny about interviewing them was I worried that I wouldn't be able to understand them bring from Finland and all. Turns out their english is quite good and they were very affable during the conversation. Their latest album "Solar" was a masterpiece and I'm sure was in top lists of favorite albums of 2011 for critics and indie pop fans.

It's the "best of" time of year where everybody tells you what they thought the best movies, music, etc. was for 2011. Once I gave it a little thought I discovered 2011 was a really good year for concerts, movies, music, TV and comic books. So here's my very selfish and subjective take on what I liked (and a few things I didn't like) about 2011. For this week’s video episode I’m steering away from indie pop music and focusing on indie pop culture. A few episodes ago, I had an interview with local filmmaker J.G. Barnes on his short film “Patrick.” This episode is a follow up, with J.G. talking about his upcoming short movie “Thieves” which is shaping up to be quite a spectacle. This week’s video goes back to October when I saw Sims and Cecil Otter at the Pike Room in Pontiac. This video is with Sims, the Cecil Otter video is still to come. The first person you’ll see in the video is my brother, Kevin, who is a huge fan of both. I decided to let him do the interview and he was so into it he wrote detailed questions in a notebook. Sims latest release is the excellent “Bad Time Zoo,” a very entertaining hip hop record with Sims calculatedly rapping over incredible beats provided by Lazerbeak. As part of the Doomtree collective, Sims can also be heard on “No Kings,” the new album from Doomtree released a couple weeks ago. My apologies go out to Sims and Kevin for taking so long to get this video out.

Concert Review: Peter Murphy, She Wants Revenge and Hussle Club Crofoot 11/25/2011

It's my 300th episode of Most People Are Djs! I'm celebrating my 300th epiode with a video review of Peter Murphy, She Wants Revenge and Hussle Club in a concert I attended Black Friday, Here's my review of the show I did or motorcityblog.

This year I’ve been reliving my youth and seeing the bands I grew up listening to like OMD, Men Without Hats and the star of this show, Peter Murphy. While the show was billed with the emphasis on She Wants Revenge as they probably do sell more records than Peter Murphy, the focus at the show was on Peter Murphy. Give credit to SWR as they told the crowd to save themselves for Peter, during their set full of new, old and even some B-sides. If you came to the show a little late you probably missed Hussle Club, who played an early 30 minute set of a hard post punk that also featured some updated dance rhythms. As mentioned above, SWR played some of their early hits and their closing with “Out of Control” and “Tear You Apart” received loud appreciation from the crowd.
At age 54, Peter Murphy, shows your years as a musician and singer with one of the richest, as well as deepest vocals, can still put on a show that includes all the raw energy of his early years and all the beauty of his more delicate later releases. When he’s rowdy onstage, dancing and preening, he still reminds me of an Iggy Pop impersonator. But, it’s his quieter, reflective songs that elevate his show above comparisons. He showed an angry streak during the show as he railed his sound man for checking his cell phone. In fact, I would say Peter is perfectionist at his art and has those same expectations for those around him, even choosing to restart “A Strange Kind of Love” when he was more than more than midway through it. His set also featured four Bauhaus songs, my favorite being “In the Flat Fields” which had Peter berating his drummer to “play faster, play faster!” He ended the show slowing way down with a somber encore of a three-song suite that included "Marlene Dietrich's Favourite Poem."

MPAD#298 "Phantasmagoria"

This video interview goes back to September on a beautiful and crisp night at Ferndale's DIY Festival. A 3 day Festival of DIY music and arts. The emphasis is on the DIY as you won't find many commercial crafts. What you will find is booths with original, handcrafted arts, and some of the best local bands. On the opening night I went out and saw a couple bands I've been meaning to see since the beginning of the year. Phantasmagoria and Step Dad. The members of Phantasmagoria were nice enough to spend a few minutes with me. While I had heard and read great things about Phantasmagoria's unique combination of pop, electronic beats and tribal rhythms. Lianna's strong vocals mix in with Chris' music that has a dark and rich fullness to it. Comparisons are hard to come by, trip hop may come to mind, but, the organic blend of sounds that wash over the striking vocals, cancel that out and something more psychedelic is the result.

If you're in the Detroit area you can catch Phantasmagoria playing various venues, on Dec. 9 they'll be at the Magic Stick with Passalaqcua and Chrome Sparks. You can also pick up their music at Five Three Dial Tone and their bandcamp site.

Does 3 episodes in 3 days count as being on a roll?

Most people remember Robert Palmer from “Addicted to Love” and the video with a suave middle-aged Yuppie guy backed by hot women in black dresses. He was tagged as a “blue-eyed soul” singer which is mostly true. However, I remember Robert Palmer a bit differently. In the late 80’s and 90’s he dabbled in New Wave and even paired up with Gary Numan. That album was Clues and had the hit “Johnny and Mary” a classic synth pop track that while it didn’t chart in the US it did receive some airplay. It’s one of those songs of mine that I call out to bond with likeminded 80’s music lovers. If you know of “Johnny and Mary” you’re more than okay in my book. Sung in a mostly monotone voice over a simple melody and the story of a troubled couple. The song has been covered by The NoTwist and another one of my favorite bands Placebo. Well just this week it was covered again by one of my new favorite bands, Kisses, a duo from LA that recall some of better disco beats as well as classic new wave with their sound. I can always rely on the Halloween season to get me back into the darker and scarier sides of pop culture. This week in my annual celebration of all things horror I'm reviewing a couple new TV shows and movies. American Horror Story is the new show from Ryan Murphy that is packed with crazy scary moments and other moments that just leave you scratching your head as to what just happened. Death Valley on MTV is a more comedic take on horror, but still has plenty of scares. I also give my opinion on Kevin Smith's horror thriller Red State. While I didn't get into it I have to say I don't see how Kevin Smith was tying this into the crazy antics of Fred Phelps, besides them both being religious nuts. I also review the low bugdet but very good indie flick, Megan is Missing. The music comes from a couple bands I saw last week, Lights and Rubik and a couple bands of good new ethereal electronic bands, Phantogram and Phantasmagoria.

MPAD#295 "Men Without Hats Go Pop!"

Somebody once said to me "You can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind. Becuase your friends don't dance and if they don't dance, well, they're no freinds of mine." That person was Ivan Doroschuk, the leader of Men Without Hats , the song was "Safety Dance" and the year was around 1984 - 27 years ago! Most people considered Men Without Hats a one-hit wonder band, but, I held on to those words, and followed Men Without Hats for the next several years. They, in fact, had a few other hits, such as "Pop Goes the World" and a large number of other good songs that had powerful lyrics behind what appeared to be simple song titles and happy beats. I never got to see Men Without Hats live in the 80's so when they announced a 2011 tour, I mad a plan to see the band and speak to Ivan about why so long since the last tour. While I van has a strong, baritone singing voice, I found he's actually quite soft-spoken and has a bit of the French-Canadian accent so you'll have to listen closely to the interview. The performance by Men Without Hats was exhilarating and very refreshing to see so much energy displayed on stage from Ivan who was obviously enjoying himself. Men Without Hats is working on a new record that goes back to their synth-dance sound and will probably go back on the road again next year.

You will have to excuse me today I'm a little tired. Last night I was hanging out with Grey from the Dark Hours podcast and a group of his friends to see The Thing which despite the bad reviews it's been receiving is a pretty good movie with some good special effects and still retains a bit of John Carpenter's intensity from his version of the movie. Speaking of the Dark Hours, Grey's podcast is back after a hiatus and his new episodes include his pal (and mine) the Cutter. So, in my lazy Saturday condition, I compiled this audio episode from some recent shows that I have been to. I talk with I Fight Dragons about their new record "Kaboom" which is out soon. My friend Ryan Allen from Destroy This Place explains what he likes about the website bandcamp. And, I have some preview interview clips from Sims and Ceil Otter from Doomtree who I saw perform last week with my brother Kevin. I also talk about the movie "Brotherhood" which is a fraternity pledge gone wrong movie that everyone should check out on netflix streamng.

MPAD#293 "Alex Goot YouTube AllStars Fall Tour"

I've been to a ton of shows these past few months but here's one I was at that you probably wouldn't have guessed. At Pike Room on a hot Saturday night, a few of YouTube brightest stars took the stage displaying both their talent for covers as well as their originals. Now I'm not a female and I haven't been 15 for more than a couple dozen years, but I do have a daughter who is 12 and I've got an interest in talking to YouTube stars, finding out how they get their YouTube views and how they navigate their career. The more I hear from these YouTube Stars the more I keep making this odd comparison of what they to do as today's definition of punk rock. Seriously, hear me out on this, it's a total DIY effort, from their homemade videos, to having the audacity to put their own spin on today's most popular songs, to releasing their music on their own labels. Putting the punk rock angle aside what these kids are doing is fun and entertaining.

Local YouTube artist, Laura Jean, warmed up the show playing a few of her charming originals as well as a cover of Maroon 5's "Misery" which had the crowd clapping and singing along. Following Laura, was Luke Conard , who provided the nerdy talent of the show with songs about Harry Potter, compulsive gaming and robot love. He brought the crowd into the show by rushing off stage and dancing. Tiffany Alvord , the youngest performer on the tour, played a set of covers that ranged from "Moves Like Jagger" to B.O.B's "Magic". Her own songs also held up their own next to the covers. Alex Goot was the headliner and the most accomplished artist of the show. Playing his set with a full band and Goot, himself, on piano, he filled his set with his own songs which the crowd seemed to know and a few well placed covers. The show ended with a melody that included the YouTube hit that everybody loves but doesn't want to admit,"Friday."

MPAD#292 "Mega-Fun Fanfare Show"

Last week I spent most of my weekend at Detroit Fanfare , a comic convention located in the heart of Detroit that had a slew of great comic writers and artists and a few TV/movie celebrities. The show was an amazingly good time, I had the chance to be on a podcasting panel that you can download here and hung out with old friend and made some new ones. One disappointment was the show attendence which was much less than anticipated. If you didn't make it down to Detroit Fanfare this year, try and come out mext year to support this awesome event.

MPAD#291 "I Fight (Live!) Dragons"

Here's a video interview I did with my favorite geek-oriented rock band, I Fight Dragons when they played at Pike Room in Pontiac back in August. While the show was a pretty messed-up affair with IFD being slapped together with a blues-rock performer and not playing until 10:30pm, they played a rousing set in front of a small but very enthusiastic crowd that IFD declared their best yet. In the 8 minute video, the members of IFD talk about how their recent tour is going and tell me what their favorite geek hobby is. This video is just the first portion of a longer interview so you’ll probably be seeing more from IFD on Most People Are DJs in the future. IFD’s new album “Kaboom!” will be out in October so keep your eyes peeled for it.

A little over a month ago I attended the Identity Festival at DTE in Clarkston, MI and had a helluva good time. The weather was perfect, music was thumping, people were beautiful and I was armed with a video camera to capture it all. This 5 minute video features clips from the crowd, the artists, LA Riots, Datsik, Crystal Method and Afrobeta. I got to hang out with all of them in their comfy buses that unfortunately had loud air conditioners on while doing the video. I'll have longer videos with Datsik and LA Riots coming soon. There are still 2 dates remaining for Identity, George, WA on Sept. 10 and Miami, FL on Sept. 30th. If you are anywhere near these locations on these dates try to catch the festival. It's an amazing spectacle.

This week's audio podcast is a compilation of interviews I did from Fan Expo Canada, one of my favorite comic conventions I try to hit up every year. This year I got six interviews with comic artists that I think are doing things to shake up the comics industry and pop culture. The first four interviews are with people doing work at Image Comics who had a fantastic booth at the con and some of the best work being done in the current comics medium. Sam Sarkar is the author of the Vault, but he's actually much more than that, as we chat about his screen writing with Beverly Hills 90210 and other ventures. Chares Saule is the author of "27" a comic about the tragic curse that some rock stars face at the age of 27, usually resulting in their death. Dennis Hopeless told me about his graphic novel "Love Struck" about a rude punk girl working with an even ruder Cupid and Viktor Kalvachev gives me the lowdown on "Blue Estate" and his own mobster story. Junko Mizuno creates great band gig posters and spoke to me about her work. Then, when all is amost said and done Wordburglar breaks his way in to freestyle on his comics and nerdcore raps. Along the way I play some awesome indie pop and hip hop.

Thousands of singers upload videos to YouTube daily but only a few of them find a large and loyal fanbase then quickly gain the rise to fame that lands them a warm-up spot on the Selena Gomez tour. In fact, I can only think of one ,the very talented Christina Grimmie , a YouTube sensation that has captured the essence of "down to earth" teenage phenom. I caught up with Christina before her show with Selena at GTE Theatre in Clarkston, MI. While she has never toured before she performed in front of a sold out audience with no fear, performing songs from her ep "Find Me" and the covers that have made her a star.

MPAD#286 "Destroy This Place"

The members of Destroy This Place employ a new type of math where the result of the equation is Loud Fast Rules. They figured out if you take 4 local music veterans that have played in some of Detroit's finest bands, like Friendly Foes, New Granada and the Cold Wave, apply a hard work ethic and add an aggressive power pop sensibility you get: Loud Fast Rules. The other part about the equation that I haven't mentioned is how Destroy This Place applied an accelerator to their equation where their talent and common mission to making music has brought them to the forefront of great local bands in less than a year. This video features guitarist, singer Ryan Allen and bassist Monday Busque talking about the formation of the band and what makes them click. There was a slight delay in getting this episode out due to my crazy schedule, but I think I more than make up for the delay with this jam packed episode. The music is all from artists performing at the the IDentity Festival, an electronic music festival with loads of electronics artists including the Crystal Method, Kascade and DJ Shadow. Besides giving a review of the festival I talk about the recent Selena Gomez show and how I keep getting unwanted input on my photography. MPAD#284 "Anarbor at Pike Room"

Here's another done in the last second interview video. I saw Anarbor a few months ago on tour with the Rocket Summer. I hadn't heard of them before that night but of all the bands that played Anarbor was the rowdiest and got the best crowd reaction. My daughter liked them so much she bought both their albums.
Last week Anarbor came back to Pontiac, this time headlining at the Pike Room with Valencia who I interviewed on MPAD#271. I caught them outside before the show and they were up for an interview, they were game, but since they were going on soon we waited until after they played. In front of a sweaty, packed room Anarbor played an energetic set with lots of shouted choruses and hands in the air. After the show, Anarbor stuck around and talked with their fans then we got around to the interview and ended up having to make it quick before they kicked us out. I think we still got a pretty good interview in, with Mike the guitarist and Slade the vocalist.

MPAD#282 "Mobil (Home) Hip Hopster"

Last week without much notice Das Racist played at the Crofoot. They were originally set up to play Eagle Theater, but ended up at the smaller Pike Room. I have both Das Racist mixtapes and I think they are pretty good at what they do - funny yet still hip indie rappers. On stage they are not the relaxed rappers you hear on the tapes, they are rowdy and loud and maybe their ploy at not being "talented" actually has some truth to it. I digress though because Das Racist wasn't really who I came to see. Warming up the show were local favorites Mobil and Danny Brown, who both know how to work the crowd and throw together some heady raps.Charles Trees provided the beats for the night and he is definitely a DJ worth looking into.

Mashup culture and podcasting sprang from the internet around the same time, and mashups as far as Most People Are DJs is concerned are part of the ingredients for a good music podcast. I've feature mashups on my show on and off for the past 6 years and I have to say many of the mashups I've played I actually enjoy more than the originating tracks. This week’s video was also filmed during the Lenka show on June 16 at the Pike Room. Katy and I decided to see if the warm up act Elizabeth and the Catapult would spend a few minutes with us discussing their recent release "The Other Side of Zero." Included are live clips of their performance that evening which was positively entertaining. The set included not only Elizabeth singing but her guitarist sang several parts. They even joined together in an acapella song that was a definite crowd pleaser. As with the Lenka show Katy J Rod took some great photos of and the band .

In another first for Most People Are DJs, here's a video episode with host Katie J Rod and electro pop singer/songwriter, Lenka. This is something I've thought about doing for a while with my video episodes being hosted by somebody else. Luckily for me I met Katie J Rodriguez a couple months ago at a show. Not only is she a great photographer - just check out her photo's of Lenka here, she's also a wonderful interviewer that knows how to get casual with her subject. Watch as Katie and Lenka talk about Lenka's new home in Brooklyn, her Jay Leno appearance and what song she like best to perform on this tour. While I may only have about 5 -6 minutes of the interview, I have about another 15 minutes of video that may just make up a Lenka part 2 video someday. I also took in X-Men First Class and I review it here with my superhero review sidekick, Ted. We give a thorough review of the movie, if by “thorough review” means gushing intensely over the greatness of this flick. Then, I wandered over to a coffee shop in Ferndale and hung out with my friend Jeff Milo of the Deep Cutz blog. We discuss why he started the blog and what Detroit music means to him. MPAD#276 "Diamond Rings Seconds"

I learned something new about my video camera when making this video -- it's terrible as far as wind noise is concerned! Both John O'Regan from Diamond Rings and myself thought standing outside in beautiful sunny weahter would be a great idea. We had awesome scenery against a brick wall with ivy and the privacy of a hidden alley behind Royal Oak Music Theatre. We also had the wind, which didn't seem like much when we were recording, but sounds more like a tornado was coming our way in the video. Hopefully you can get past it as this really is a great video with performances from Diamond Rings from his recent show with Robyn. MPAD#274 - Smallville, Gossip Girl, 90210 and James Robinson

I had this real cheesy photo of me with some costumed fan girls from Motor City comic Con, but I decided to save myself the embarrassment and use the picture of me with James Robinson. James Robinson is one of my favorite comic writers because of his wonderful run on Starman. With Starman he took a little known golden age hero and brought into modern times with a new conflicted hero and adventures that captured the readers emotions. I had such a good time reviewing Thor weith my friend Ted I thought I would bring him back on to talk about some TV finales on shows we both watch. I hate to disappoint people but our take on the Smallville finale is pretty negative, I've read a lot of reviews by people that liked it but I don't think we are alone on thinking it was not awesome, but awful. We also review two of our favorite teen dramas: 90210 and Gossip Girl, btw, Ted is solely to blame for my partaking in Gossip Girl. That's not to say that there's only myself to blame to keep coming back week after week.

MPAD#273 "Interviewing Swimming With Dolphins"

I think I might have confused some listeners last week when I said I was going to do interview Swimming With Dolphins. Not only does that sound complicated (if not impossible!) I don’t think my video recording equipment would hold up very well. I should have said I’m interviewing the band “Swimming With Dolphins” a synth dance band fronted by Austin Tofte – the cool guy with the hat in the video. Don’t confuse him with the nerdy guy with the hat because that’s me. The back story to SWD is the band was originally formed by Austin and Adam Young who left the band to form Owl City. Perhaps you’ve head of them they had a little hit single last year with “Fireflies”? SWD new record “Water Colours” was just released May 17, so you could view this video as a primer before getting the record. I can tell you that f the record compares to their live show, which is catchy and danceable with some real substance backing up the sound, I wouldn’t hesitate picking it up. I interviewed SWD on May 11 at Eagle Theater in Pontiac.

MPAD#271 Video Interview with Valencia

To celebrate Cinco De Mayo, I give you this video with Valencia that goes back a couple weeks ago to a sold out show that also featured Rocket to the Moon, Runner, Runner and AnArbor. The kids were at this show in droves and it was a great show with tons of energy. Like several other "older" people at the show I was there with my daughter, Megan, who had a tremendous time and I got some "cool" credibility her and that's a tough thing for a father of a high school girl to come by. We got to the show a couple hours early and hung out with the bands, all of them were more than willing to talk with and share stories of the tour with us. It's interesting to compare each of these bands, especially Valencia, live vs. studio. While they're a bit more restrained in the studio, they pack a firece punch live, inducing the crowd to fevered thrashing and even stage diving. MPAD#270 "The Scariest Motor City Nightmares Ever!"

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a horror fan. On this episode I feed my inner horror demon by taking my venture to Motor City Nightmares and letting you in on some of the fun I had. I talk to a host of people including several local horror podcasters on the topic of what their scariest movie ever is, and I tell you what movie scared me most. I also interview the one and only, Kyle Gass, one half of Tenacious D, and actor/comedian in movies like Elf. What the hell he was doing at MCN I have no idea? But, he was fun to talk to and even though he may come off in the interview as maybe a bit of a jerk, he was laughing with me as much as he was pulling my chain. Although I think he might have had a chokehold on me at one point. I also let you know what on TV, podcasts and music that I’m checking out. When I saw Girl Talk on March 3^rd at Compuware arena I took a lot of video and some miscellaneous crowd pictures. I looked at the footage and it just didn’t seem to say a lot about the experience of a Girl Talk show. Then, I remembered that I interviewed Girl Talk back in 2008 and Gregg Gillis (GT) has so much good stuff to say that I always wanted to repurpose some of the audio. I spent some time over the weekend piecing together this video from those two experiences to create a video that defines the Girl Talk experience that defines his sound and his show. Btw, I didn’t make it to the Girl Talk show with LMFAO but I am hearing I didn’t miss much.

On this podcast I spend quite a bit of time talking about podcasting and if one can really make a living out of it which people like Kevin Smith and Adam Carolla suggest you can. My point is, well if you’re one of those guys maybe you can, but otherwise, do the podcast for your passion and your want to communicate that passion. I think in my long diatribe that might have actually gotten lost. I should also mention I am in no way dissin’ on K Smith, because I love the guy and his sense of humor. I hope Red State is the great horror movie he says it is because I am really looking forward to it. I also play 5 great tracks this week that I’ve come across the last couple weeks. MPAD#267 "A Classic Education"

Before I tell something about the band, A Classic Education, I’m going to give a bit of classic podcasting education. While I have a lot of listeners for Most People Are DJs, I can’t always get the interviews I would like to, after all what I’m doing is not exactly Rolling Stone. But, what I am able to do courtesy of my little old podcast is get close to bands like A Classic Education that are just starting to get their name out in the indie pop hemisphere. A band that I knew little about, except for the song, “Gone to Sea”, and that they are from Italy. As I set up the interview the more I learned about ACE, the more I liked them. They have this small sound, that one could mistake calling them twee, however, they’d be quickly reprimanded theirs songs expand into big crescendos and clamors of brilliance. ACE may be a small band from Italy now, but I think after watching this video you’ll agree with me they are worth seeking out. I’ll also add them to the list of bands I’ve interviewed like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, who just released their 2nd album and people say things to me like, “they are so cool, I can’t believe you interviewed them.” Yes, I did, it’s one of the things I do best.

I’ve been spending more time exploring media and entertainment available on the internet. There is so much and so many pockets, it seems I could just spend all my time looking and there would still be more out there. My other alternative is to pick a few great sites and just visit those. At the top of my list is Strangeways Radio , an internet radio station that plays all the music I want to listen to and has special programming with hosts that know good music. This podcast is an interview with Michael Foster, the creator and owner of Strangeways Radio. A guy so dedicated to his love of alternative music and his quest to listen to the best alternative music, he created his own internet radio station. We talk about the history of Strangeways Radio, the programming and how he manages to keep it all going strong. We also play some tracks that are some of his favorite songs from the Strangeways catalog. If you like shoegaze, trip hop, Brit pop, and more good alternative genres, this episode is for you.

MPAD#265 "InnerPartySystem at Pike Room"

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve been stacking up the video episodes lately. What started as a change of pace for me, to do a video documentary, has now become part of the Most People Are DJs experience. However, as all things on MPAD are guided by my passions and interests, so are my videos. If I have a few videos come out over the span of two months, it means a lot of bands I like came to town in the same few weeks.And, I’ve been surprised how many good shows have come to town, OMD, Girl Talk, and on this video I’m featuring InnerPartySystem, one of the most exciting bands around today that make aggressive rock music still relevant by using electronic music to drive their pulsating rhythms. There’s also a message buried in their music about the celebrity and consumption nation we’ve become, see American Trash and Don’t Stop for examples. In this video ISP discuss the current tour and what their live experience is all about. MPAD#263 "I'm A Fly Guy"

I recorded this episode of MPAD before I heard the song “Friday ” by Rebecca Black, otherwise I might have played it, and not because it’s bad, because I kind of like it. When I watched it, and yes, I watched the entire video (twice), I kept wondering, this has to be a parody, right? Maybe like a SNL Digital Short, but there’s an odd sense of real sincerity shining throughout the video that I just can’t dismiss it as a parody. It’s too much like a party. Besides you can’t just listen to “Friday”, you have to see the video to fully experience it.

On this episode I do play some warm chill music. That’s music that you can “chill” to but has some warm elements in the melody, a lot like the weather this time of year. One of the songs I feature this week is “Lima Magic” by3D Friends, the theme song to Skins , the US version, which is wrapping up its season 1 next week. The song is free to download at the MTV Skins site, so if you like what you hear, be sure to download it.

MPAD#263 "Junk Culture with Milkel O.D."

Sometimes my life is filled with strange coincidences. Last week I interviewed the artist, Junk Culture, and this Friday I am seeing Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark which had an album with the same title. The Junk Culture on this video is Deepak Mantena, JC is his project of taken bits of found sound, his own musical work and singing, all spun together in quirky dance music that’s quite indefinable. This video was done before he ran on stage and warmed up for Girl Talk on March 3^rd at Compuware Arena. Thanks to the fancy camera work of my friend Sandip Massey, it’s one of my rare video appearances. Hopefully, my awkward gestures and head bobbing don’t distract you from an otherwise great interview. Junk Culture’s latest release “Summer Friends” is available on Illegal Arts records and can be purchased through your favorite online music seller.

MPAD#262 "Rolling Video with Runner Runner"

Runner Runner are one of those new bands that when they come to my town they receive response like they have already made it big. Fans will scream while they play, sing along to songs that haven’t been released and mob the merchandise table for the latest t-shirt. If you didn’t know Runner Runner you’d probably question what the big deal is all about. And, that’s the point, because once you hear and see Runner Runner, the reason they are a big deal is readily apparent. They have an energy and excitement to their music that pours out of each song. They are also incredibly nice guys that take time to talk to each and every fan and make time for interviews and videos with schlubs like me. I spent about 20 minutes with Nick and Peter filming these video clips that they really put their thought and interest into. In fact, I have so much good stuff this is just part 1, check back in a couple weeks for part 2.

The video was filmed before Runner, Runner warmed the crowd up for the Pretty Reckless. Yes, Pretty Reckless is the band fronted by Gossip Girl actress, Taylor Momsen. While I’m not a straight ahead rock fan, I have to say tPR played a good set and as their name suggests they are certainly pretty reckless. Look for their cameo appearance in my video.

MPAD##261 "Christopher George of the Smiths United"

I'm a big fan of covers from bands, but tribute bands are a whole different beast. A tribute band devotes their entire set to one influential band. There is a movie documentary on the subject, appropriately called Tribute, that portrays the people in tribute bands as sad people that live in fantasy world where they try their best to be the band they are playing tribute to. My interview with Christopher George of the Smiths United, a Smiths tribute band, is quite a contrast to the movie, as Christopher is a well-grounded person that's involved with a hundred other things, who just happens to play in a tribute band. Having never seen the Smiths, but, always considered them my favorite band, The Smiths United give me the opportunity to hear Smiths' songs with a crowd of Morrissey/Smiths fans that I fit right along with. I've seen them twice now and the Smiths United shows rank up with some of the shows I've had my best time at. If you want to see for yourself come the Old Miami on Friday, Feb. 25 and see the Smiths United who also play their fair share of Morrissey songs.

MPAD#260 "Bear Hands Reach Out"

The display stopped working on my lapto, which cannot be a good thing. So, now I'm left relying on my 6 year old desktop, I can only cross my fingers it keeps chugging along. Without my laptop I was left hampered from creating a snazzy new audio episode, so I went to my MPAD video vaults and got around to making that Bear Hands video been promising. Bear Hands are the band that does the very catchy "Crime Pays" song that I can't get out of my head. They hail from - you guessed right, Brooklyn! I spent maybe 3 minutes with them at the same show I got the Hesta Prynn video from. The guys from Bear Hands were great, but I dodn't think I was getting any audio from our recording so I cut it short. I also wasn't sure how well the video from their performance turned out. Well, after spending some time editing, it turns out I got some pretty good material to share with you. Check it out because these guys are hipster media darlings, hopefully, and with good reason they'll become much more.

So how many of us survived that last blast of winter? I heard Chicago got smacked with around 2 feet of snow. In my town, near Detroit, we got lucky and ended up with about 6 - 8 inches of snow. The negative part was I still had to go to work when it seemed like the rest of the nation had the day off. Okay, I'm through complaining, now about this episode, it's an interview with Randall Rigdon of Dark Colour, a new artist from the Cincinnati area plays indie synth pop with dreamscapes and punk revisions. There's 2 songs by Dark Colour on the episode as well as music by Miami Horror and Banjo or Freakout. Dark Colour's 1st release Memories is out Feb. 15, if you like what you hear, pick it up.

Matt Schwartz is a local hip hop artist that takes his own indie-soul approach to making hip hop music. I was so impressed with his live presence I made a video (see here) from a recent performance then talked him into doing a full interview with me. We discuss how he got into rapping, the story behind some of his songs and why he keeps trying to make hip hop music. Then, I move over to talk about MTV’s latest teen show Skins, which is adapted by the controversial BBC show of the same title. I give you my take on the show and Matt even jumps in with his perspective on having watched the BBC series. I'm sure there are more than a hundred bands in the Detroit area. It seems like I find a new one each week. What's even more surprising is most of them are good, a few of them are even great. The Classic rate as better than great, maybe incredible is a good word for them. As a hip hop band with punk running in their veins, The Classic attack the stage with a presence that already appears accomplished and fierce. What may make them a band with so much potential is each of the three core members brings their own specialty to the band - Serious Black is the lyricist with the smooth vocal, Danger is the beat maker and The Engineer, as the name might imply adds the finishing touches and a bit of craziness. Happy 2011! I’m calling this episode “2011 The Year of Hype” as I think we’ve moved on from hope and the US is now firmly focused on hype. Hype meaning we’re going to see a lot of great things that are “supposed” to happen, but I’m not sure how much of it any of us will actually experience them. However, rather than be depressed or pessimistic about it, I’m going to jump on the hype bandwagon. This is going to be the best year of Most People Are DJs yet with better music, more interviews and videos that will amaze and astound you! I’m going to get back to playing more mash-ups, more remixes and I’ll clue you into some excellent tracks that would otherwise take you hours to find. I’ll also give you my take on everything out there that’s worthwhile in the land of pop culture. This episode is an example of what in store for you all year round! How’s that for hype?

MPAD#253 "I Love Lightning Bugs Too!"

On the same night of the Hesta Prynn show I took some video of I Love Lightning Bugs that I've been holding to for the past month. I did a video with ILLB back in September, but a lot has changed with the band. They have added keyboard/guitarist, Kate, to the band to help fill in their sound with some great backing vocals and melody. They also have a different drummer, so you could say it's almost a different band, except they still have the moving basslines from Rob and Ried's emotive vocals. They're shaping up to be one of Detroit's best kept secrets that I'm trying to share with this episode. They hopefully have an album coming out in January as I can't wait to play more of them, until them catch them at knerd.com, where all the cool indie bands can be seen and heard. In this video I try something a bit different, rather than interview the artist, I’m interviewing the fans of the artist. Gary Numan is the perfect artist to try this out on, because, using myself as an example, we’re obsessive freaks about Gary Numan. Which bring me to the other odd thing on the video, me. Since I’m usually filming the video, I don’t the chance to put my ugly mug in it. With this video it seemed odd if I wasn’t in it. If you’re looking for a Gary Numan interview, I did that on MPAD#58, the last time he came to Detroit. This tour Gary performed the complete Pleasure Principle album, celebrating 30 years since the album came out. He also played some of his newer tracks which is when the energy of the show really kicked. Gary has said he never wanted to be one of those aging artists that are caught in the past, so it was interesting to see him take on his older material as the bulk of the show. I think it was easy to tell that his real interest is on his current music and that’s what he puts his heart into. Enjoy the video and let me know what your favorite Gary Numan song is.

Maybe it's because I still feel ripped off from the manipulative trailer, or maybe, even if I didn't enjoy the movie, the idea and controversy surrounding the film is too compelling to just forget about. MPAD#246 "Amusement Parks On Fire"

On this week’s Most People Are DJs vidcast edition is the band Amusement Parks on Fire, a shoegaze band from Nottingham, England. I did this video the same night as the Boxer Rebellion on MPAD#244. I didn’t expect to video with APoF , but their performance was so good and they seemed friendly enough to talk to. They were certainly friendly enough which could have had something to do with the amount of alcohol they consumed. If you watch the video you can tell a couple of members were, as they would say, absolutely “juiced up,” which made this video all the more fun to take. If you have even a partial interest in the music in the video, and yes, I know the tracking is a bit off with the vocals, you need to check out “Road Eyes.” It is a brilliant combination of sonic guitars, stellar vocals and beautiful noise. And, yes, it is very heavy.

It's the week before Halloween and this isn't a Halloween themed podcast. I know, I'm bummed out about it too. I've been so busy this month I haven't been able to think about Halloween. I still think you'll enjoy this audio podcast as it has some incredible artists and I think my topics are pretty interesting (or at least they were to me). I talk about my fascination for Gary Numan after having just seen him perform live. Then, I dive into what I bring with me when I travel. What kind of media do I travel with and why. You ever have a few of those days where everything goes wrong? Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question. Of course you have, everbody hurts, right? I'm trying to fight my way out of a string of those days, car trouble, computer issues, family crap... I keep hoping to wake up and it's November, because October has just been a real struggle for me. The bright spot for me is always getting an episode of Most People Are DJs together, and this one is a shiny one because of the quality of the content. The Boxer Rebellion played iLounge on September 28. In front of a crowd of 30 they gave it their best. It has to be a crazy life for a band to do a gig in front on a few hundred one night, and then a paltry classroom size crowd the next night. This is when integrity kicks in and the Boxer Rebellion has that in spades. All around good guys playing brilliant music that evokes both bands that put their heart on the line and their head on the melody. This video is a little documentary that sums them up pretty well. One positive for less crowded shows is the video sure comes out better. Check back with my Most People Are VJs vidcast and you just might catch some more Boxer Rebellion video.

I had the urge to talk and the need to be vague today. All these topics have been spinning around my head so I made the call for an audio show of MPAD to get some ouf it out of my head and into your ears. Of all the summer events I attend, Ferndale DIY is one of my favorites. Each year Ferndale DIY hosts some of the best local bands, art and has a great beer tent with micro brews from the best Michigan has to offer. This event also seems to cater to the more underground and artistic community. The art for sale is of the odd sort that one of a kind is usually an understatement. This year I saw a few great bands and managed to pull aside Fawn for a few moments to talk about their set and their sound. Fawn recently released a 7inch single. They mention these crazy flying gnats that were rampant that afternoon. If you notice a bit of shaky cam going on that's me trying to dodge the gnats that were dive bombing me. The other band featured is Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. who were also featured in a blog and video I did just a couple days ago.

The past week flew by so fast for me I didn’t get a chance to blog so as part of the intro to this video I figured I’d put some thoughts down on new Fall TV shows I’ve seen. I had big expectations for Detroit 187, but the first episode was a underwhelming. It came across as a very formulaic cop drama set in Detroit. I might stick around for a few more episodes to see if it improves. Boardwalk Empire, HBO’s new big show, came on last week, and while I was impressed with parts of it, like the setting and characters. It introduced a few too many characters and felt like it might play better as a long movie. A show I really hated was The Defenders, I’m not even sure why I watched it. Some of the returning shows I really enjoyed were the season premiers of Smallville, Chuck and Gossip Girl. All 3 of these are off to great starts.

This MPAD video episode features “I Love Lightning Bugs” who were formerly known as Lorem Ipsums. They mention their influences as are bands like the Pixies and Sonic Youth, but they kind of remind me of Pavement. I interviewed Rob, the bass player and Reid, the guitar/singer. This week is the official week of TV premiers, so I'm sitting here watching the 2nd episode of 90210. Believe me I'm as surprised as you are that I'm sticking around for another year. Just call it another of my guilty pleasures. What's new on TV is just one of the few things I'm covering on this audio edition of Most People Are DJs. I've also got an amusing interview with Greg Pepper from Common Grackle, a duo that play mix of soulful hip hop and indie pop. A little over week ago I blogged about the return of OMD, on this episode I play a new song by them and do a little profile on their career that spans more than 30 years. It's another week for a video episode of Most People Are DJs. This week I am featuring the band, Adam's Castle , a trio from New York that play instrumental music. You might be thinking to yourself that seeing an instrumental band play live might be boring, but, just a few minutes seeing Adam's Castle play, you'lll be so captivated by how interesting and pulsating their sound is, a vocalist would just be an annoyance. Their sound is different than most other "alt-instrument" bands like Mogwai, in that most of AC's songs move along with movement changes and dynamic effects. I spent my labor day laboring over this video episode of Most People Are DJs. Unlike most of my other videos that are documentaries, where you don't see or hear me in the video, I make an appearance in this video. In fact this video is all about me and the visual experience I had at fan expo. In addition to that, I am finally getting out the Birthday Massacre video I've been meaning to put together. I was fortunate enough to catch Rainbow and Michael from the band for a few minutes which I have included with some music from their upcoming CD, "Pin and Needles". If you have a minute check out their new video for "In the Dark". I also feature a couple of snippets from director Rob Stefaniuk of the Vampire movie "Suck" and Tim Doiron of "Gravy Train" which also features the very beautiful April Mullen. There's also come costume pics that I took at the con. I thought about nicking a bunch of photos from flicker, but I think that's cheating. I watched the movie Suck, which is a great little vampire rock band movie with tons of cameos by rocks stars. Even with the crowds, I had a great time and will definitely be back next year.

On this week's show I have an interview with Brad Laner, an artist who has a new album, Natural Selections, out August 24th, however, I know him from for all his great guitar work with bands like Lusk and Medicine. There's some Medicine vdieos on YouTube you should check out to hear some amazing shoegaze pop from the 90s. The conversation with Brad was actually almost a half hour, but I only used about 10minutes. Towards the end we were just talking about bands we like and I finally got around asking him if he heard any "Yes" in his music. Brad admitted he is a huge "Yes" which really made my day, alternative music fans that like Yes can be hard to come by. A weird coincidence I found out after I recorded the show is, the band Baths, which I play this show recently did a Brad Laner remix. One more stray fact about Michael Cera that I forgot to mention was he starred in an episode of Veronica Mars, one of the best teen shows ever made.

This is the long awaited interview documentary video episode with Lacey Conner of Lords of Acid . When my friend told me LoA were coming to town I remembered how much fun I had seeing them in the distant past. I also know LoA is a rotating line-up band with Praga Khan as the guiding force. The new lead singer for LoA is Lacey Conner, who you might have seen before on VH1’s Rock of Love. I decided to do a video with her because it was interesting to see an American with reality TV fame fronting LoA. Lacey was very down to earth and friendly to speak with, she was very accommodating throughout the interview even though she wasn’t feeling well. When Lacey takes the stage with LoA, as you can she in the video, her persona changes, she is fierce, aggressive and very sexy. Like my other video’s most of what you see was done using my ever-versatile flip camera . I am putting some extra work into my editing work so I hope you notice a more visually appealing video compared to some of my past shows.

Lacy mentions on the video she is very involved with rescue dogs and I want to make sure I mention what an important and worthy cause supporting rescue dogs is. I have a rescue dog, Miley, a border collie/lab mix that is just the most awesome dog in the world. Not only do I have a great pet, I may have saved her from a painful life of dog shelters or worse. “Focus on the Dopeness” is taken from The Wackness, where woeful Luke’s object of attraction, Stephanie says to Luke he should “Stop focusing on the Wackness in his life and be like her, focus on the dopeness.” Did people really talk like that in 1994? I’m not even sure, but, I know what “wack” means. According to “the Wackness,” it means the confounded and inevitable negative things that are sure to occur in your life. Wack is actually a lot deeper than I would have ever thought. Maybe that’s what I’m looking for in this podcast. A show that seems like shallow escapism from your daily routine but actually poses something much deeper. So ponder that, as I talk about things that are going on with MPAD, play some “dope” music and review some things that have been swimming around my brain.

MPAD#233 "Liz from Lettercamp Video"

I'll talk about it on my podcast next week, but I'll let you know now that I spent a good part of this week working on making my basement a multimedia haven. I bought a HD TV, then updated my Sony Viao desktop to work with the TV and hooked it all up to a stereo surround system. It's pretty awesome. My next project is to create a little video recording space down there where I can do some video shows - and I may actually appear in them.

For this this week's MPAD I've got a little video documentary with Liz afrom Lettercamp. Lettercamp's been playing for less than a year and they are quickly becoming a band to mark your calendar to see. The members come from some our our local scene's finest bands like Friendly Foes, Nice Device and Millions of Brazillians. Liz is the singer and Lettercamp started as her basement project. What's great about Liz is I don't think she realizes how talented she and Lettercamp are. The video was all done on my flip camera at the Crofoot on July 17, at the show where Robyn, who makes a cameo appearance in the video, played.

I should have went back and checked because I just discovered I hit my podasting for 5 years mark a few weeks ago, but it's this week I'm taking notice. Catching up with an old friend is always a good time - especially when they have good stoires to tell. On this episode, Robert Wax from Crashing Cairo is back on Most People Are DJs with news on the big gig coming up for the band and his latest acting escapades. The thing with Wax is he could brag and have a big ego about some of the great projects he's involved with but instead he retains his modesty and good humor. When I'm putting together a podcast, there are times that I have a really good time talking to myself. That sounds a little strange, but I look at it almost like therepy or meditation. I take these things I come accross over the past couple weeks, distill them tto the few that I really think are interesting, then talk about why. The hope is always that, in the process, which I admit is completely selfish, there are people out there that enjoy listening to me do this thing as well. On this week's episode, I've got a sunburn, a lttle tired and maybe even slightly hungover. When I think back on the fun I had recording, maybe that's just the right mixture for recording a podcast. Or it could be my passion for the topics I'm discussing, music and movies. To be more specific, Devo and a little movie call the Education of Charlie Banks, plus some other things that have been bugging me lately like high concert ticket prices and rules for free MP3 downloads.

MPAD#225 "Making Good On Film Threat"

Before I tell you a little bit about this episode of Most People Are DJs. I want to mention something that's been bugging me a bit lately. It's movie trailers that have parts of a movie that don't end up in the movie. My recent example is Iron Man 2 - which, by the way, is a good movie. In the trailer, there's a scene with Iron Man jumping off a roof, yelling to Pepper Potts "You complete me!" I found the moment irritating and cliche, so I was glad it wasn't in the movie - (or, at least, I don't remember it in the movie). But, it begs the question, why was it in the trailer? Was it an early trailer and the scene was cut out from the film? I can see that could happen if you're rushing a trailer to complete the film. However, I've seen that bit on other trailers. Seems manipulative to me. But, isn't that the point of most trailers?

Okay, that's off my chest, though I may look for a few more examples and expound on it another time. On this podcast, I am talking with Mark Bell, the owner and publisher of FilmThreat.com, a website of independent movies, movie reviews and more. I was interested in talking with Mark because Film Threat was a magazine I read in the 90's and 25 years later it's still alive and kicking as a website. I've also been listening to the FilmThreat Podcast which features lively film discussion between Mark and co-conspirator across the country, Eric Campos. It's good to see a zine from back in the day, go from little zine, to popular mag, to zine zomebieland and get resurrected again as a website and still be the vital film resource it is today.

For this episode of Most People Are DJs I have 3 interviews I did at Motor City Comic Con on May 15, 2010. The noise levels at comic cons is kind of crazy so when I'm interviewing I have to compete with the aisle traffic noise, chatter from nearby booths and the ever annoying PA announcements. It's easy to lose focus with what you are talking about or what to ask next. However, for MCCC 2010, I tried to put all that aside and really focus on my guests who are doing some spectacular things. Finally, I found some time to put together a new Most People Are DJs podcast. But, before I get to the episode, let me chat up some TV season finales. Just watched the Supernatural finale, which was set in Detroit. Pretty appropriate place for the "final" batttle to take place. Last night I took in the Survivor finale. Russell was robbed again. Well, not really,. Russell just does not understand when to keep his ego in check. Tonight, it's the Gossip Girl finale. What trouble will Little J. get into this week?

MPAD#222 "Amber Loves Scott"

Amber doesn't really love Scott, but, you have to admit it's a pretty cute title. I do a lot of talking on this podcast episode about 2 people I'm currently fascinated with, Amber Tamblyn and Scott Walker. Amber's an actress that seems to pop up in TV shows and movies that I find a lot of charm in. I talk specifically about the movie Spiral, an interesting psychological thriller and The Unusuals, which was an appropriately unusual and canceled TV series. Scott Walker's an artist I should have known about for at least the last 20 years, but I just became familiar with him through the documentary 30 Century Man. I make a funny mistake when I mention that The Walker Brother's Nite Flights is 22 years old. In fact, coming out in 1978 makes the album 32 years old. I think a large part of me just didn't want to admit 1978 is 32 years ago - that seems like a such a loooong time. At 32 years old, the song Nite Flights has aged ridiculously well.

I'm the kind of guy that will give just about any movie a chance. Last night I tortured myseld with the Syfy "B" movie of the week "Mothman". Not even Jewel Staite's pretty smile could save this one. And yet, this movie gets budget from Syfy, and probably even a DVD. Meanwhile, movies like "The Man Who Collected Food" sit awaiting distribution. "The Man Who Collected Food" is a dark, horror comedy that can take something as horrific as cannibalism and make it non-stop laughs.The film is beautifully shot with striking images and lots of blood. So listen to this MPAD episode as the writer/director, Matthew Roth and actors, Mike Kelly and Russ Fox talk about the fun that went into the making of "The Man Who Collected Food."

MPAD#220 "Think About Life - the video"

I had a very busy weekend and just enough time to put this seven minute video together that features interview and music with Montreal band, Think About Life. Think About Life combine great elements or pop and dance with and indie alternative spin that is exciting and fun. Their live show is all about getting the crowd to join in with their onstage fun. Lead singer, Martin, is very engaging as he often joins the crowd at their level, while Caila, the bassist, provides female vocals and does some pretty funky dancing between bass breaks. On this MPAD#220, they took the time to sit down with me and talk about how what they Think About Life on the road and recording.

I’m watching a fantastic DVD called Renaissance that I plan on covering for next week’s audio episode. If you get some time try and catch it before the podcast is released.

MPAD#219 "Malcolm McLaren's Cruel Intentions"

On this week's audio podast of Most People Are DJs I profile the great Malcolm McLaren who recently passed away and review one of my favorite movies, Cruel Intentions. You can listen to the podcast to hear me talk about each and play music by the Futureheads, Blank Dogs and New Roman Times.

A couple of side notes: a lot of what I learned about Malcolm McLaren I got from the book, The Wicked Ways of Malcolm McLaren, a good biography that covers his whole career. I have the book somewhere around my house, I'll have to dig it up. Roger Krumble, the director of Cruel Intentions, also directed The Sweetest Thing with Cameron Diaz, but I never saw it. I did see the Cruel Intentions sequels II, and III. Cruel Intentions II is just okay, and C.I. III is just barely watchable.
