Sarah Clanton Schaffer and Darby Wilcox of O Mello Cello Tree perform "Reasons Why" in our kitchen.

Their energy is infectious. We're more than happy they made the drive and the short walk up into our tree house apartment.

O Mello Cello Tree:

This acoustic, near neo-folk duo is comprised of two head strong women and have quite the tale to tell. Darby Tollison, known to her fans as Darby One, met Sarah Clanton a few years ago at Coffee Underground in Greenville South Carolina. Sarah was involved with another band, ViaMcbee, and finishing up Furman Univeristy. Before everyone's eyes Sarah fell into the throes of Darby's soulful tunes! After a classical fall out with the flute Darby began playing guitar at the age of thirteen. She always had hoped to integrate the cello into her music...somehow...It had to be fate that O Mello Cello Tree began as two musical soul mates found each other. Since 2006 O Mello Cello Tree has opened for various artists including Jump Little Children's Ward Williams, Niel Brooks, and Wasted Wine. The duo also participated in O.N.E. Music Festival 2007 and will be returning again this year. This summer O Mello Cello Tree will be performing at Music in the Woods at Paris Mountain State Park, a sustainable festival which Sarah Clanton has organized for the 2008 season. These ladies most recently made their way to the city of dreams, Nashville, Tennessee, via their tremendous fans. Now, with the release of their first professional album, Ride to Graybar Lane, O Mello Cello Tree hopes to gain serious ground in order to fund an east coast tour within the next year. With the support they have received so far, the possibilities now seem limitless.

Harvey's Kitchen: Amelia's Mechanics, Part 2. Nina

Here’s part 2. It’s been a few weeks since part 1. Molly McGinn and Molly Miller after completing their first album “North, South” with Kasey Horton and produced by Jim Avett, are now beginning the process of recording their second album with 3 time grammy award winner Steven Heller and Laurelyn Dossett at Echo Studios.

This is a bit of departure from the usual Kitchen episode. The song was recorded live next to our dirty dishes but Carolyn and I also ventured out to a few venues to capture a little live footage to complement the performance.

This particular song will be appearing on their as yet untitled new album. If their introduction is anything to go by, this band is definitely going places.

Amelia's Mechanics first album, "North, South" produced by Jim Avett has been in heavy rotation on college radio stations up and down the east coast for several months. Their next album, currently being produced by 3 time grammy award winner Steven Heller together with Laurelyn Dossett promises to generate quite a stir.

Both Molly Miller and Molly McGinn currently reside in Greensboro, NC and they took time out of their busy touring schedule to take a turn in our kitchen.

Full disclosure, Molly McGinn was one of the first people to visit our kitchen almost 2 years ago with nothing but her guitar and no band.

Oh how things change.

Brooklyn-based Pearl and the Beard, perform a song from their critically-acclaimed album, "God Bless Your Weary Soul, Amanda Richardson." Fortunately for them they arrived the day AFTER Halloween. Not everyone gets two songs in the kitchen. Some don't have time. Some don't have the material.

Keep an eye out as Monkeywhale brings Pearl and the Beard down to North Carolina in March for a live show alongside some fantastic new bands.

Harvey's Kitchen: Pearl and the Beard, Vessel

Brooklyn-based new folk trio, Pearl and the Beard, perform "Vessel" from their critically acclaimed album "God Bless your wear soul, Amanda Richardson" in Harvey's Kitchen. This was the band's first trip down south and we're overjoyed they made a stop in our apartment, and braved the cold in our back yard. Yes, the rain cut short our plans in the open air but it didn't make the session any less enjoyable.

The band has been making quite an impression in the Northeast.
