Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, Senani was musical at a young age, following in the footsteps of her Sri Lankan actor/singer/dancer mom, Jeevarani Kurukulasooriya. A clasically trained pianist and vocalist, she began writing songs at fifteen.

She moved to the big city (Sydney)  a few years ago after getting some television exposure back home in Newcastle. Since then, she's been performing with her own Funk/Soul group and writing songs for her forthcoming album "Infinity." "Voodoo Girl" is the first single from the album, featuring an infectious groove and the exotic contributions of tabla master Bobby Singh and sitarist Sarangan Sriranganathan.

The video owes a lot to Michael Jackson, one of Senani's musical influences (along with Billie Holliday and Erykah Badu, among others).

Talib Kweii grew up in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, the son of a university administrator and an English professor. His family prized education and achievement, but he would find his way in dedication to a different profession: music. He entered the scene as an emcee in the mid-1990s, coming to prominence during hsi collaborations with Mos Def.  

Shareese Renée Ballard, better known by her stage name Res, is a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia known for her soulful Pop/Rock tunes. She began appearing on Talib Kweli's albums as a guest on Train of Thought  in 2000.

As a kid back in Ohio, Matt Toka would retreat from the battles between his parents to his room, his stereo and Green Day's Dookie . He started playing guitar at twelve, played in local bands around Youngstown, got a record deal in the band Cherry Monroe, was dropped a year later, moved out to L.A. in an old Honda Civic, and went from playing for thousands in a Rock 'n' Roll band to playing acoustic for passersby on Hollywood Blvd. He took whatever work he could get to pay the rent, and continued to write songs about his life, his anger, his hopes, his fears - the stuff of which great lyrics are made.

Hard work, dedication and YouTube videos got him another record deal, and a chance to work with one of his heroes, producer Rob Cavallo (who also worked with Green Day and My Chemical Romance). The album, "Straight To Hell," will be out soon.

Oh No Not Stereo was formed by Skyler Nielsen and Mykul Lee in June of 2003. Stilettos is the latest release from Youngstown, Ohio's multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Emii.

Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin are Air, an Electronica and Chillout band that first formed in 1995 when the two were students at Versailles. With six studio albums to their credit, the pair are these days producing their own recordings in their own custom-built studio. The are unique in that they utilize a lot of analog keyboards, such as Moogs and Wurlitzers.

Graffiti6 is a collaboration between Singer/Songwriter Jamie Scott and Songwriter/Producer TommyD (a.k.a. Tommy Danvers).  Scott is well known for his Folk and R&B tunes. Danvers is known for his work with a string of A-List Pop artists, including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Adele, Beyoncé and others. He also produced Right Said Fred's blockbuster hit "I'm Too Sexy."

Omer Michael J Bhatti has been singing and dancing since the age of 8. Raised by parents who worked for Michael Jackson, Bhatti (a.k.a. O-Bee) became close Jackson before the star's untimely death. Anomie Belle was a classical violinist performing in an orchestra by the time she was only ten years old. A self-taught pianist as well, she began multi-track recording on a karaoke machine her parents had given her. Phanie Diaz and Jenn Alva met in junior high art class and bonded immediately, both being fans of bands like Nirvana and The Smiths. Forming the rhythm section of a band (with Phanie on drums and Jenn on Bass) they needed a singer. They didn't have to look very far. Phanie's younger sister Nina joined the group on guitar and vocals, and Girl In A Coma (named after The Smith's "Girlfriend In A Coma") was born.

They played local gigs for a few years, then went on the road seeking their fortune. In 2006, Joan Jett (one of their musical idols) caught their set at the Knitting Factory in NYC and signed them to Blackheart Records. Not long after, they opened for Morrissey on his tour.

Omnimotion is the project of Swedish composer Stefan Lundaahl. He began learning guitar at the age of 15, got some formal training and started writing songs and playing in various bands. He came to prominence as a Death Metal guitarist for the band Amroth, but eventually found himself drawn to what he calls the "dreamy infinite world" of Ambient music.

After moving to Stockholm, he studied classical music and learned to write for orchestra, string quartet and voice. His self-titled album was released in 2002, and he's continued to develop Omnimotion in the years since.

"Teenage Runaway" is the lead single from 17-year-old Florida Rocker Madison Rose's debut album "Aftershock." The song was written by Rose, her brother (and bandmate) Justyn and legendary Surf Rock guitarist Gary Hoey. Hoey also helped produce the album.

The song itself has been nominated for Best Pop Song in the 2011 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, to be presented on November 17th.

Meghan Underwood (NBC's "The Baby Borrowers") directed the video, which alternates between clips of Rose out front with her band, some highly stylized set shots and some footage of Rose in a gritty urban alley.

The Rose siblings have been playing music and singing together since Justyn was eleven and Madison was seven. They met Hoey at Rock and Roll Fantasy camp in 2010, and it wasn't long before the three were collaborating on "Aftershock" in Hoey's New England studio.

Ella Mae Bowen grew up in the small town of Walhalla, South Carolina. At the age of 3 she wrote a song for her grandfather, and recorded it in a portable sound booth at the Mall of Georgia. For an Aussie, Anne McCue loves her some Americana, and you know what? Americana loves her back. With a hot blues guitar style, a voice that has been described as "stunning" and love for Roots-Rock, McCue has drawn raves from musicians such as diverse as Nancy Wilson and Lucinda Williams. On her last album, "Broken Promise Land," McCue drifted into biker bar territory, with a set of "bluesy, dirty, swampy, rockin' and mysterious" tunes, aided by bassist Bones Hillman from Midnight Oil and drummer Ken Coomer from Wilco.

Now Anne has joined up in Nashville with fellow Australian Simon Kerr to form "Yeah No Yeah." This is the video for their first release, "Happy Alone."

The talented teen duo is back with another video from their album "Black Sheep." The song is "Maybe" and it has the feel of an anthemic Folk/Rock love song that could only be written by someone who meant it.

In this case that would be Nat, the senior brother (at 16), who has been writing since he was five. 

The video was directed by their mom, Polly Draper (Thirty Something), and was inspired by the movie "Lars and the Real Girl."

NOVI is the stage name for 24 year old Carolyne Neuman, an Ashland, Oregon native who now lives in Los Angeles. Her first single, "Blackbirds," is from the forthcoming EP, “Now I’m Here.”

Currently rehearsing for reigonal shows, the infectious Electro-Pop sound and provocative lyrics of "Blackbirds" has been quite a coming out party anthem for the young artist.

Neuman told Blast "It was totally meant to be a joke. [Lee] Miles and I had been writing some heartfelt pop-rock and one night in my bedroom I was drinking some wine and screwing around on Garage Band. I sent it to Lee and he said he woke up singing the hook."

You may recognize Neuman's voice even if you haven't heard NOVI. Her song "All The Way" appeared on the hit television series "One Tree Hill."

2010 was a bad year for a lot of gay teens. Bullying seemed to be on the rise, and the incidence of suicide in gay teens surged, with at least six widely-reported cases of adolescents who took their own lives in the wake of gay bullying during the month of September alone.

Pop singer Ke$ha wrote "We R Who We R" in response to the situation, intending that it become a sort of pride anthem. She told Rolling Stone that she was really affected by the suicides that have been happening, and that she wanted teens to know that things do get better and that they need to celebrate who they are. "Every weird thing about you is beautiful and makes life interesting. Hopefully the song really captures that emotion of celebrating who you are."

Now San Jose Electro Pop Rockers The Relay Company have created a snappy cover of the song, as well as a music video (complete with eye-glitter).

Mississippi born rapper, actor and activist David Banner doesn't shy away from controversy or from taking a stand on issues that he feels are important. He's testified before Congress about racism, misogyny and Hip Hop, and has been an outspoken advocate for various causes.

With the new single "SWAG" from his upcoming album "The Make Believe Album" he strikes out against the disrespect and outright racism in our society and popular culture today. Banner asks the question "When is it just enough?"

With lyrics like "even when I was broke, selling my soul wasn't tempting" and "white girl call us n*gga and we just sit back and laugh and call it swag, swag, swag," Banner calls for some accountability from artists, consumers and the industry at large. He recently noted "Hip-hop was based on some foundations. Do we even know what those foundations are anymore?"

The song is dediecated to James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old African American who was robbed, beaten and eventually run down by a truck in Jackson, Mississippi last June. The alleged perpetrators were a gang of white teens, and the FBI is investigating Anderson's death as "intentional and racially motivated."

Taking his stage name from the alter ego of The Incredible Hulk, Banner grew up in Jackson and earned a business degree from Southern University before pursuing his career in music. He came to prominence as a member of Crooked Lettaz (along with Kamikaze), before setting out on his solo career in 2000. If "SWAG" is any indication, the Hulk side of Banner is just getting warmed up.

Forrest Day is the name of a fast-rapping saxophone player with a love for Rock, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Funk. Forrest Day is also the name of the Bay Area band that he fronts, and it's also the name of their first studio album, set for release next month.

Day and his bandmates (guitarist Terrell Liedstrand,  bassist John Sankey, keyboard player Nick Wyner and drummer Jasper Skydecker) had an interesting approach to recording the album. They recorded various parts playing live into two microphones attached to a stereo reel-to-reel tape recorder. Then they converted the analog recordings to digital, and used them like samples in building the songs. The result manages to sound old school and fresh at the same time.

Day was a Jazz sax player as a kid, and then began playing Rock when he was in high school. He eventually began singing, and in 2007 recorded a few songs that got a lot of play on MySpace. Forrest Day, the band was soon to follow.

Did he set out to creat this interesting melange of styles? Not at all. He once told San Francisco Weekly "it just comes out like that, because that's all the music that I've loved and I've listened to my whole life."

London Alternative Post-Grunge Rockers Bush are back with their first studio album in ten years, "The Sea of Memories." "The Sound of Winter" is the second single released from the album, following "The Afterlife" (which was released in 2010 before the album came out).

The band is composed of Colorado natives Kyle Even and David Schmitt, and began as a project done mostly for fun, using GarageBand to record their Dance-tinged Electronica and using MySpace to promote it. 30 million plays later, the guys were able to quit their day jobs and pursue music full time.

The band continues to record as a duo, but usually adds additional musicians for live gigs.

The new album has reached the top ten of the US Rock and Indie charts, and #2 on the Dance charts.

Team Backpack is a collaborative effort to help independent artists reach their fans. It's also been described as a "hip-hop/lifestyle movement" emanating out of the Bay Area. Now in its third year, Team Backpack brings together multiple MCs to "spit their hottest 16 bars" on original beats. They film the sessions and put them online, where fans can vote for their favorite verses.

One of the most recent videos to come out of the TBP is "Do That" featuring Armani Cooper, Jedi and (self-described "lyrical terror") Shark Sinatra.
