**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**Darcy's Story by Janet Aylmer takes P&P from Darcy's view. It is a little slow in the middle, just sort of reiterates what P&P says and is written very JA like, so it doesn't move fast. But the things I liked about this book was that in the beginning, she kind of shows him rescueing Georgianna from the grips of Wickham's evil plan. It also shows that Darcy is kind of jealous of Fitzwilliam when they are at Lady Catherine's and Lizzy is there. That was kind of cool. It shows how tortured he is after her saying no to his marriage proposal. Then it shows what he does after he leaves her to find Wickham in London. The most exicting part is that it shows their courtship after Lizzy says yes to him. It explores what he said to her father, how her father reacted and how they kept it from her mother for awhile so she wouldn't go into hysterics. I thought it was cool also how during their courtship he takes her to his London house. He says to her... "Would you go with me and your father to London, then I could show you our house in London." It kind of showed that he thought of her as an equal party to his wealth and I really liked that. A funny part was when Darcy asks Lizzy in private about Mr. Collins and she tells him he had asked her to marry him. Darcy gets angry. Lizzy says, "What's the matter?" Darcy says, "It is the thought of Mr. Collins and you... of him having the right to... No, it does not bear to think about!" Hehhee... It's cool to see that Darcy has a little jealousy in him about Lizzy. In the first few lines of the chapter we can see that even Elizabeth is surprised by Darcy’s visit to Lambton on the same day as her visit to Pemberley. It is proof again of his feelings for Lizzie. It is also clearly seen the difference between Lydia & Elizabeth, one falls dramatically into love, were the other comes to a gradual revelation of her feelings. Perhaps age had something to do with this or the difference in character. Today’s ReadingChapter 41 of Pride and PrejudiceLydia’s invitation My DiscussionIn Chapter 41 Elizabeth starts to have a greater understanding of Mr Darcy’s objection towards her family (we could call it the cringe factor), as the younger members bemoan the lost of the officers on a daily basis & are supported by their mother in the scheme to follow the regiment to Brighten, not that Mr Bennit is much moved by their plight. Then when all hope is lost for Lydia she receives an invitation to join Mrs Forster and accompany her to Brighten, much to the dissatisfaction of Kitty and the strong objections of Lizzie. After Elizabeth puts forward her arguments against Lydia going to Brighten, Mr Bennit pushes all arguments aside stating that her is a chance for Lydia to get this silliness’ out of her head away from the rest of the family and with little cost. I think somewhat patronizingly Mr Bennit tell her that all will be well and not to worry her pretty little head about it. One side we have Jane who is a complete innocent in her beliefs of the conscience of others (the fact that she can’t believe Wickham could be that bad) and she also felt very sympatric toward Darcy after hearing that his proposal had been rejected. The other side of the coin Lizzie shields her sister from knowing something that would only hurt her. Today’s ReadingChapter 37 of Pride and PrejudiceJA news JA Regency Awards updateCast your vote before 10^th MayReview of new Jane Austen moviesAs mentioned a few shows back, I had rented the new Jane Austen collection 3 DVD set. Just this week I was in the Sanity store looking through the DVD’s and what should pop up but the new JA collection. So I have now added this to my library. The only problem I have with this collection is that it has the old Emma and does not include the new Sense and Sensibility (which I watched on youtube). The two new movies, Nothanger Abbey & Mansfield Park are definitely worth watching. When you compare the difference between the old 80’s BBC Northanger Abbey & the new one, I have to say is the fact that the BBC version is a bit more gothic in style, with the new version being a bit more of a fairy tale. Manfield Park’s Fanny is played by Billie Pipper who is great in this role. In the new version we can see Fanny fighting back, not just being a shadow behind the seens that we see in the BBC version. Out of these two new versions I think Mansfield Park is the one I like best.
