For the majority of the last two days, reports have ran regarding a Friday meeting in Los Angeles between Dwight Howard and new Orlando Magic general manager. ESPN's Chris Broussard first chronicled the discussion which resulted in Howard asking again to be traded by the franchise and preferably to be sent to the Brooklyn Nets.

On Monday, after a media meet and great with the Magic's two draft picks, Hennigan confirmed the speculation. He also said that the club will now have to assess the situation and do what is in their best interests.

There was speculation leading into Thursday's NBA Draft that the Orlando Magic might finally part ways with Dwight Howard. However, new general manager Rob Hennigan was not ready to let go of the superstar and spent draft night adding two pieces to the Magic roster.

With their first selection (19th overall), Orlando took St. Bonaventure power forward Andrew Nicholson. Nicholson averaged 18.5 points and 8.4 rebounds a game in his senior season while leading the Bonnies to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 and only the second time in the last 30 years.

He was the first first round choice out of St. Bonaventure since Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Lanier was the top overall pick in 1970.

Also, with pick #49 in the second round, the Magic took forward/center Kyle O'Quinn out of Norfolk State.

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic selected forward Andrew Nicholson in the first round (19th overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft.

Nicholson (6’9”, 250, 12/8/89) appeared in 123 career games at St. Bonaventure University, averaging 17.1 ppg., 7.2 rpg. and 1.98 blkpg. in 29.9 minpg. and shot .575 (809-1,407) from the field during his collegiate career. He earned All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors all four seasons and was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as a senior in 2011-12. Nicholson also earned All-American honors by The Associated Press in 2011-12. Nicholson led the Bonnies in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots for three straight seasons (2009-12).

“We are excited to have Andrew (Nicholson) join our Orlando Magic family,” said General Manager Rob Hennigan. “We feel he embodies the types of values that will put him in a position to achieve success here. He’s a humble, high character player, who’s committed to working hard and playing within a team concept. We are intrigued by his cerebral, instinctual approach to the game.”

Nicholson ranks second all-time in school history in scoring (2,103 points), second in blocked shots (244), second in field goal percentage and fourth in rebounds (887).

As a senior (2011-12), Nicholson played in 32 games, averaging 18.5 ppg., 8.4 rpg., 1.0 apg. and 2.0 blkpg. in 30.1 minpg. He scored in double figures 29 times. Nicholson grabbed a career-best 23 rebounds (along with 21 points) against Duquesne, and led the Bonnies to the NCAA Tournament.

During his junior year (2010-11), Nicholson appeared in 31 games, averaging 20.8 ppg., 7.3 rpg. and 1.5 blkpg. in 33.8 minpg. He scored in double figures 30 times, including a career-high 44 points against Ohio University.

As a sophomore (2009-10), Nicholson appeared in 30 games, averaging 16.4 ppg., 7.1 rpg. and 1.8 blkpg. in 30.2 minpg. During his freshman season (2008-09), he averaged 12.5 ppg., 6.0 rpg. and a team-high 2.7 blkpg. in 25.1 minpg.

Nicholson, son of Fabian and Colmaleen, graduated with a degree in physics from St. Bonaventure.

Hennigan Talks Dwight Howard Rumors

Clearly the biggest storyline surrounding Thursday night’s NBA Draft is the great lengths the Houston Rockets are going through in their attempts to acquire Dwight Howard. Houston has stockpiled the 12^th, 16^th, and 18^th picks in the first round.

They are looking to turn some combination of those picks into spot high in the lottery and hope that it would sweeten the pot enough for the Magic to part with their superstar. Howard’s representatives have already conveyed the fact that their client will not sign a long-term deal with the Rockets, but general manager Daryl Morey appears comfortable taking a gamble.

GM Rob Hennigan just landed in Orlando last week and in a session with the media today, shied away from the majority of questions pertaining to Howard.

MIami Heat Capture NBA Title

Thursday's Game 5 certainly felt like a culmination two years in the running for the Miami Heat. They responded in a big way, winning 121-106 over the Oklahoma City Thunder to capture their second title in franchise history.

Miami started out fast early and kept the momentum largely due to the shooting stroke of Mike Miller. The wing player was an unlikely hero after not registering a three in these Finals. However, he hit seven triples en route to 23 points.

Miller was just one example of why this might have been the best game played by the Heat in the two year run of the Big Three. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all joined Miller as 20 point scorers.

After another remarkable statline of 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists, James was named series MVP.

Not only is this championship the second in Heat history, but also the sixth professional sports title to come to the city of Miami (Dolphins 1973, 1974, Marlins 1997, 2003). With a trophy under their belts, Miami will set to tackle a new challenge next year, going back to back.

On Thursday, Game 4 of the NBA Finals will commense from the American Airlines Arena and no one may be counted on to step their game up then the Thunder's James Harden. Harden was just 2-10 from the field in OKC's 91-85 Game 3 loss to the Miami Heat.

The Sixth Man of the Year remains confidence that he can be a scoring a factor. Seeing that a loss could put Oklahoma City down 3-1 in the series, Harden and his teammates find themselves in a moment of urgency.

Free throws have been something the Miami Heat have struggled with all year, but on Sunday night, the charity stripe bailed them out. Despite shooting just 37.8 percent from the field, Miami finished 31-35 from the line and that performance went a long way in their 91-85 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Attacking the basket early and picking up 46 points in the paint was a key to the volume of their trips to the line. The Heat had only three scorers in double figures led by LeBron James with 29 points and Dwyane Wade who chipped in 24.

OKC had their share of offensive troubles as well. Kevin Durant got off for 25, but Russell Westbrook was just 11-18 from the field and Kendrick Perkins was their only other player who finished with at least ten points.

Now down 2-1 the Thunder will look to avoid finding their playoff lives on the brink with another loss Tuesday in Game 4 at the American Airlines Arena.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been an awfully tough team at home as of late and the Miami Heat found out exactly why in their 105-94 loss in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Kevin Durant finished with a game high 36 points and while starting off slow Russell Westbrook chipped in a stat line of 27 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds, while committing only two turnovers. Contributions from their two superstars on the offensive end was almost all they would need with Serge Ibaka (10 points) being the only other Thunder player in double figures.

Both guys keyed Oklahoma City’s success in transition. OKC outscored Miami 24-4 on the fast break and also held a 16-point advantage in points in the paint.

The game was not always out of reach for the Heat however. They started things off on a run and at one point before halftime, led by 13. Making five of six threes to start the game really put them on top early.

LeBron James got his 30 points, but it did not come as effortlessly as some of his nights in the Boston series. Nor were things easy for Dwyane Wade who shot just 7-19 from the field for 19 points.

With the one of a kind home crowd advantage at the Chesapeake Energy Arena and defensive switches successfully executed by Oklahoma City, Miami was worn down. They missed all five of their fourth quarter shots from the perimeter and were also outscored by ten in that final frame.

With the win, Oklahoma City remained undefeated at home in the postseason and will look to grab a commanding 2-0 series lead on Thursday.

Magic Fall in Overtime to Pacers in Game 4

Give the Orlando Magic credit for one thing during their postseason run: effort. On Saturday, the Magic were down as much as 19 in the fourth quarter in game four against the Indiana Pacers.

With a J.J. Redick three pointer coming at 38 seconds to go in regulation, Orlando tied the game and went into overtime. However a missed Glen Davis turnaround midrange jumper fell short at the end of the extra period and the Pacers prevailed 101-99.

Now down 3-1 in the series, the Magic head to Indianapolis to try and stave off elimination Tuesday in game five.

Magic Fall to Pacers in Game Three 97-74

It has been an uphill climb for the Orlando Magic without Dwight Howard in their first round series against the Indiana Pacers. The Magic had another setback in their first home playoff game Wednesday, losing game three 97-74 to the Pacers.

Glen Davis had a big night for Orlando going 10-18 from the field and finishing with 22 points. However, of his performance and 13 points from J.J. Redick, the rest of the Magic shot just 34 percent.

Indiana, on the other hand, got much better games all across the board, led by Danny Granger's 26 points and Roy Hibbert's double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. It was also a struggle on the glass for undersized Orlando, with Indiana outrebounding them by 13.

Desperately needing to win game four Saturday to avoid falling down 3-1 in the series, the Magic will look for a better gameplan over the next two days. Saturday's game is a 2 PM start back at the Amway Center.

In boxing today, it might be hard to put together a big time fight. However, on May 5^th one such bout is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.

Miguel Cotto will look to defy the odds as he goes up against undefeated Floyd Mayweather. On the line will be Cotto’s WBA Super Welterweight Championship.

While promoters have had trouble getting Mayweather-Pacquiao set up, this 12 round contest still features two of best fighters in the world. Cotto is 37-2 with 30 career knockouts. His last loss came to Pacquiao in 2009.

One man who has never felt the sting of defeat is the 42-0 Mayweather. He is a seven-time world champion in five weight classes.

The card, which also features Shane Mosely against WBC Super Welterweight Champion Canelo Alvarez in the undercard, will be live on HBO Pay-Per-View.

We got the opportunity to speak to Cotto at his prefight media workout at Mech Tech College, site of his training camp in Orlando, Florida. He spoke about his strategy going in and what he expects the final result to be on May 5^th.

When two teams start out atop the Eastern Conference, the only way any separation is forged is by playing each other. The Chicago Bulls gained the early upper hand in the season when they defeated Orlando Magic 97-83 on Friday at Amway Center.

Chicago (7-1) used their superior defensive abilities to pull ahead and win comfortably. They dominated on the glass, winning 46-37 and also caused more turnovers than the Magic (5-3).

Dwight Howard was a sensational force for Orlando, scoring 28 points off of 11-18 shooting and adding 15 rebounds. Also, Jason Richardson was a worthy sidekick, finishing with 17 points.

Head coach Stan Van Gundy right before half exacerbated one problem that was present throughout. He lit into Ryan Anderson, who was leading the Magic in scoring this season up to this point.

Anderson had an off night, scoring only five points, and his defense continued to disappoint Van Gundy.

For the Bulls, three players ended up with 20 plus points. Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Derrick Rose led the way and were helped by a surprising 18 off the bench from Kyle Korver.

Next, Orlando takes to the road for their first west coast road trip of the year. They will face Sacramento, Portland, and Golden State before a final away contest against the New York Knicks.

An alarming Christmas Day loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Orlando Magic desperately needed to open their home floor with a victory. On Tuesday, they did just that, defeating the Houston Rockets 104-95.

Overall, it was a much better collective effort than the night before. Dwight Howard was close to his normal averages, going for 21 points. Hedo Turkoglu led all scorers with 23 and J.J. Redick hit three three pointers on his way to adding 20.

The Rockets (0-1) fought hard throughout, but after the first half, the lead was rarely in question. Kyle Lowery had 20 points and 12 assists. In yet another return to The City Beautiful, Courtney Lee finished with 15 and shot 6-10 from the field.

Orlando (1-1) are the benefactors of a rare two day break in the shortened NBA schedule before taking on New Jersey back at Amway Center on Thursday.

Magic Rally to Win Exhibition Finale Versus Heat

The Magic were down 10 after the first, but a boost from Glenn Davis keyed a big rally. Davis finished 7-8 from the field for a team high 18 points.

After a five point showing on Sunday, Dwight Howard looked closer to the player he was last season. Howard was an efficient 6-8 and scored 15.

On the other side, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade finished with 27 and 21 points respectively.

While an Orlando bounce back on the court was important after their open to the exhibition season, just getting back to basketball was enough for Magic faithful. The excitement in the building was noticeable, from fans, media, and staff alike.

Orlando will open the season on Christmas Day at 8 PM eastern in Oklahoma City before returning to Amway to begin their home slate the following day against Houston.

NBA Finals Game 1 - Miami vs Dallas

When the NBA Finals opened on Tuesday, most thought things would be geared towards the offensive end of the floor. Things couldn't be farther from that prediction in game 1 at the American Airlines Arena. In fact, there wasn't much that went the way prognosticators had them on this night.

In a battle predicated on defense, the Miami Heat pulled out a 92-84 win over the Dallas Mavericks to take a 1-0 lead. Miami's offense came alive to a degree late in the third quarter and that carried them the rest of the way.

A Udonis Haslem layup to tie followed by a LeBron James three to go ahead left the Heat up four after three and after that they wouldn't look back.

“It was a grind,” said Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra. “It's tough. We didn't get into much of an offensive flow the entire game. Both teams really held down the paint. We were able to get some defensive stops there at the end to distance ourselves.”

Points were tough to come by early, but the efficiency of James throughout kept Miami in things. He finished with 24 points and was 4-5 from long distance.

Dwayne Wade also ended with over 20 points. Being that scoring was a struggle, both stars for the Heat had versatile performances. James had nine rebounds and six assists while Wade chipped in ten boards and five helpers.

For the Mavs, Dirk Nowitzki led all scorers with 27 points but his shots did not come easily. Perhaps more key to the Heat's victory was the struggles of Jason Terry. His explosive abilities were held in check as he went on to shoot 3-10 from the field.

After being maligned for their lack of offensive rebounding throughout the season Miami pulled down 16 from the offensive glass. Along the way, the outrebounded Dallas by ten but the Mavs did get one more second chance point then the Heat.

“Well, our bigs have to be active, containing their great players on the perimeter,” said Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle on the rebounding deficiency. “So it draws them away from the basket some. Look, a lot of the game is a scramble. We can't have that kind of deficit. You leave too much too chance.”

For people expecting this series to be more offensive than the Eastern Conference Finals, the first quarter showed that such scoring might not happen. Each team shot 28.6 percent to open the game and the only highlight for Miami had to be Chris Bosh, who they went to early down low to the tune of six of the team's first eight points.

Bosh finished with 16 points.

Depth for Dallas has been a strong suit all season. They were able to weather a season ending injury to Caron Butler during the regular season and not skip a beat. However, on Tuesday the Heat bench bested the Mavericks bench by a 27-17 margin.

Mario Chalmers was the spark among the reserves and he hit three big threes on his way to 12 points.

“This is a very good basketball team we're playing,” said Carlisle. “They were more opportunistic tonight than we were. That's been one of the traits of our run. We've been very opportunistic. Tonight we weren't as much.”

The focus will now shift for both teams to game two in Miami on Thursday. At this time of the year, it's a process that will start for both teams immediately. It certainly isn't time for Dallas to hang their heads after the loss.

“This is the first game of the series,” said Mavs forward Shawn Marion. “There is a long way to go. This is a great challenge for both teams. They got the first win tonight.”

Magic fizzle out against Hawks

On an excessively cold night in Orlando, both the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks found difficulty getting on a shooting hot streak. The Hawks prevailed in the low scoring affair by a final of 80-74 in a game that saw the victors shoot 38.8 percent from the field while the hit for only 37.8 percent.

Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy said he could find nothing positive on the stat sheet at the end of the game. The Magic (15-6) were put in an opening 14-5 hole and both teams played rather uninspired basketball the entire night.

“I really don't know what to say about that one,” said Van Gundy. “On both sides, I thought it was a low energy game. It was just a bad basketball game.”

The main scapegoats for the Magic's poor performance could be Rashard Lewis and Quentin Richardson, who shot a combined 3-15 from the field. Point guard Jameer Nelson also missed his third game in a row still battling the stomach flu.

“I don't think we should be out of gas,” said Nelson's replacement Chris Duhon. “These are big games. This is a division game for us. You can't put any excuses about being tired. This is the NBA. We play all these games you have to learn how to play through it.”

Especially important in snapping the Magic's five game home winning streak was the Hawks ability to pull away late. Three pointers from Mike Bibby at the 2:44 and 0:26 marks were critical buckets that kept the Magic at arm's length. Bibby finished with 13 points off of 3-4 shooting from deep and Josh Smith led all scorers with his 19 points.

For the Magic, five players finished with double digit scoring, highlighted by Vince Carter's 18. Dwight Howard was a late addition to the starting lineup after missing the last two games and went for 14 points and 13 rebounds. Van Gundy remarked that the ability to generate consistent post offense to Howard was a challenge all night.

He also said that despite the few solid individual performances, no one played well for the Magic. He also openly criticized his own coaching and specifically mentioned missing the play they ran for Bibby on his late makes from downtown.

“You just have those days,” said Duhon. “You play 82 games and you are not going to shoot the ball great. Our defense was able to keep us in the game. At the same, late in the stretch, we made key defensive errors and they were able to capitalize.”

Despite the poor offensive numbers for Atlanta, defensive questions remained for Orlando. They committed seven more turnovers and only out-rebounded the Hawks by three.

“The defensive numbers I think are because both teams played poorly,” said Van Gundy. “We had a few possessions defensively, but I was never thinking wow we are really getting after it defensively and getting some stops.”

The Magic will hit the road and start a four game West Coast road trip Thursday in Portland.

Magic drop first Amway Center game to Jazz

Going into the season NBA prognosticators said teams were doomed when headed out on the Florida swing for back to back road games against Miami and Orlando. After tonight’s 104-94 win for the Utah Jazz over the Orlando Magic people may have to rethink their stance.

The Jazz (5-3) got a win in overtime against Miami on Tuesday before finishing things off at Amway Center for to go 2-0 in the state. Orlando (5-2) suffered their first loss in the new building at the hands of Utah.

The Magic also allowed 100 points to an opponent for the first time all season.

The game was slow to develop and the Magic actually won the scoring battle in both the first and second quarters. Orlando led by 18 at one point late in the third quarter but a 19 point run by Utah in the final period sealed the ten point victory.

“Obviously, it was a very tough loss, a very disturbing loss,” said Coach Stan Van Gundy. “We went up 18 tonight and then relaxed, turned the ball over, let them get going. We couldn’t stop them, but we opened the window. The end of the third quarter was ridiculous professional basketball.”

Dwight Howard collected three fouls in the third quarter alone competing against the long Jazz frontcourt of Al Jefferson, Andrei Kirilenko, and Paul Milsap. He picked up his fifth personal with eight minutes to go and was subbed out for a crucial three and half minute stretch.

During this time, the Magic saw a four point lead turn into a three point deficit

Five Magic players went for double figures. Vince Carter was strong again putting up his second 20 point and second team leading effort of the year.

Despite fouling out in the game’s final minute, Jameer Nelson was especially impressive. He had missed the previous two games to an ankle injury, but responded going 4-7 from three and finishing with 19 points.

But the Magic committed 21 turnovers and it most likely doomed them by the final buzzer.

“We had a lot of miscues and travel calls on a lot of us,” said Carter. “It’s tough. We need to make plays and execute. It’s about your execution regardless about what’s happening.”

For the Jazz, there was no slow down evident from Milsap a night after his career high 46 points in Miami, as the forward sprung for 23 points on 8-15 shooting. Point guard Deron Williams was clearly a man on a mission, tying his season high with 30 points while dishing out 14 assists.

He scored 17 of those points in the fourth quarter.

“Williams did a little bit of everything,” said Van Gundy. “He is a great player and he played outstanding. He had six or eight free throws late, so the numbers are a little skewed. Still, he is the guy who took over in the fourth and won it for them.”

Orlando remains tied atop the Southeast Division due to a 108-91 loss by Atlanta at home to the Milwaukee. The Magic will reboot for the final game of the home stand, Friday night against Toronto.

NBA Magic Season Opener

The Orlando Magic scored a big opening win over the Washington Wizards 112-83 in the inaugural regular season game at Amway Center. Dwight Howard had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Vince Carter contributed 18 for the Magic (1-0). For the Wizards, John Wall showed some spurts of talent that got him drafted first overall in June, but shot only 6 for 19 from the field.

The first week of college football is over; and no huge upsets in the top 25. Boise State hung on to beat Virginia Tech and there is already early Heisman chatter about Boise State’s Quaterback Kellen Moore. LSU barely got past a depleted UNC team at the Georgia Dome. The TarHeels were without 13 players due to investigations and NCAA violations. Florida was able to beat Miami of Ohio, but it seems the Gators had some trouble without Tim Tebow...they were held to only 26 total offensive yards in the first three quarters. And finally a little trouble for the Big East in week one. Pittsburgh lost to Utah in OT; the Big East was 0-4 in its games against high-profile opponents.

Some noteable games in Week 2 are Florida State at Oklahoma; Miami at Ohio State and Penn State plays the defending national champions Alabama.

Ahhh...with week one underway that means it’s time for the NFL. Game one on Thursday features Minnesota at New Orleans. I’m sure Brett Favre would love to get some revenge on the Saints after last year’s NFC title overtime loss. (Saints won 14-9)

Here’s other NFL news going into Week 1.

The Darelle Revis holdout is OVER. Revis returned to Jets practice earlier this week. The 36-day holdout led to a 4-year, 46 million dollar contract for the cornerback. Revis is expected to play in New York's season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Quaterback Matt Leinart was released from the Arizona Cardinals and two days later agreed to a contract with Houston. Leinart signed a one-year contract to be the Texans back-up quarterback. Although he’s not a starter I guess Leinart can say that at least he gets to keep his Heisman trophy. That’s not the case for Reggie Bush.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the former USC Runningback will be the first player to ever be stripped of his Heisman; football’s most prestigous trophy has been around for 75 years. Bush will lose the trophy by the end of the month because of NCAA violations committed while he played for USC. Yahoo! says the committee is expected to leave the trophy vacant for that season.

Finally, Tom Brady is now the highest paid player in the NFL; signing a deal that guarantees the QB to get $48 million.

Finally!!! College football officially begins on Thursday..if you’re like me you love this time of year. Well, I guess it also depends on your favorite football team’s skill level, right? So, Let’s take a look at the top ten for week one according to the associated press.

Reigning National Champion Alabama of course has the number one slot. followed by the Buckeyes, Boise State, and a Tim Tebow-less Gator squad. Texas is number 5. TCU will get to prove if it should be ranked number 6 as the horned frogs play number 24 ranked Oregon State this weekend. Oklahoma wants to be the top team in the Big 12...they’re number 7. Followed by the big 12’s Nebraska. Iowa is at number 9 and Virginia Tech rounds up the top ten. The Hokies play boise state on monday on ABC...one of the better games in week one.

In Baseball News...
The Nationals' most recent top pick, Bryce Harper, put on a show at batting practice this past week after bring introduced to the team. But Nationals fans are going to have to wait longer than expected to see their young duo of Harper and Stephen Strasburg on the field together. Strasburg is undergoing Tommy John surgery later this week and will be out for 12-18 months. I hope he comes back to form after surgery because that team is going to be fun to watch.

The Cincinnati Reds called up the young Cuban flamethrower, Aroldis Chapman, on Tuesday night. The Reds hope Chapman can give them bullpen depth as they continue to make a playoff run. And oh yeah, Chapman hit 105 on the radar gun last weekend.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet MLB's public enemy #1, Omar Infante. You may remember him being selected to the all-star team due to his versatility over other players that were having better seasons. Well now, he could rain on Albert Pujols or Joey Votto's parade as they battle for the Triple Crown. As of now, Infante owns the best average in the NL, but doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title. If he can get around 4.4 at-bats per game for the rest of the season, he would win the batting title and become the most hated man among baseball fans.

And finally, Manny is just being Manny, he pouted, and got his way again. Manny Ramirez has been traded to the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox will take on the remaining $3.8 million of his salary for this season, but it is well worth it as they finally get the big DH bat they were looking for. They trail the Twins in the AL Central by only 4 games.

Off the baseball field,...Roger Clemens entered a non-guilty plea in federal court earlier this week. Later the same he played in a golf tournament in South Carolina.

For all you sports fans I know you just can’t wait to hear the new “star” cast for this season’s Dancing with the Stars!! Don’t fear, this isn’t an entertainment segment, but two athletes have made this year’s show. Former NBA forward Rick Fox and Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner. And if you’re wondering if Warner has any dancing skills.

I think hair can definitely be considered a fashion statement. That’s the case in this week’s IC Fashion Statement. The Steelers Troy Polamalu has gorgeous locks. There’s no doubt about it. Even Head and Shoulders has been using him as its spokesperson. The shampoo company has even gone as far to take out a one million dollar policy on his hair. I’m totally jealous!

Pat Haden was recently hired as USC’s Athletic Director. Haden is a former USC quarterback and NFL players...he was on the Dan Patrick Show and the two talked about Reggie Bush. The comments provide us with this week’s quote of the week. Listen up!!

Hey there. I’m Michele Hunter. Thanks for tuning into IC Sports. Welcome to our show where every Thursday I bring you a weekly dose of all things Sports. So, If you haven’t been following sports this week here’s what you missed.

Ahhh...the NFL is back in action. Well, at least preseason action. Many naysayers could do without preseason. I’m sure Giants head coach Tom Coughlin can join that list following this week’s preason game against the Jets. Star quarterback Eli Manning endured a nasty injury. For all of you with weak stomachs don’t look.

Teammate Brandon Jenkins knocked off Mannings helmet...right before the QB was hit by linebacker Calvin Pace. Manning was then hit by a second defender.

The hit looked a lot worse than it ended up being...Manning ended up with three stiches and is not expected to miss any practices or preseason games.

Another preseason big story has been Tim Tebow. The former Gator quarterback had a running touchdown and over 100 yards throwing against the Bengals. The Broncos lost. and Rumor has it that a couple of reporters asked Tebow for his autograph following the game.

And rounding out our preseason pigskin news...Ben Rothlethisberger will likely start on Saturday vs the Giants in the Steelers second pre-season game. The Steelers QB is suspended for at least the first four games of the regular season after his was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old female.

In baseball news...

In the NBA, Ahhh...the drama. Since the big "Decision", LeBron James has faced a lot of scrutiny regarding his decision to leave Cleveland for Miami, and the way he announced that decision. Well, he is finally speaking his mind on Cavs’ owner Dan Gilbert’s letter to Cleveland fans. He shared his thoughts in the latest GQ Magazine...

In response James said, "I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ’You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’ Me and my family have seen the character of that man."

James also said, "It made me feel more comfortable that I made the right decision."

James didn’t stop there...he also expanded on his love for Akron; not Cleveland by saying, "And Clevelanders, because they were the bigger-city kids when we were growing up, looked down on us. So, we didn’t actually like Cleveland. We hated Cleveland growing up. There’s a lot of people in Cleveland we still hate to this day."

Another NBA star who may be making a decision of his own is the Nuggets Carmelo Anthony. ESPN is reporting that Anthony is expected to leave Denver and that the issue should be solved by the NBA trade deadline in February. If all the summer rumors, which came following Anthony’s wedding in New York, are true the forward would like to play for the Knicks with Amare Stoudermire.
So, for all of you who need an ego boost regarding your golf game just watch Sacramento’s Tyreke Evans swing...

 Now, it’s time for Athlete’s Tweets. There’s one tweet that really caught my eye. Arkansas radio DJ Renee Gork ... Twitter: "Was hoping to publicly apologize to Coach Petrino and UA fans on the show today ... but I won't get that chance, I've been fired."

You see...Renee works for a station that calls itself Hog Sports Radio. During an interview with Arkansas Head Coach Bobby Petrino she was wearing a Florida Gators hat. Ouch. Well, after answering her question petrino said And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on,"
Two days later...the poor girl was fired.

this week’s IC’s Fashion Statement comes to us from the blog Sportsby Brooks. A reader sent this photo of NBA Players Kareem Rush, Richard Jefferson, Luke Walton and three others dressed for a day out in the water. Looking good guys...looking good.

and this week’s quote of the week comes to us from former NFL Coach Tony Dungy. Dungy is not pleased with Jets’ Coach Rex Ryan language on HBO’s Hard Knocks. On the Dan Patrick show Dungy said
“I have not watched it, I’ve gotten the reports, I’m disappointed with all the profanity. I think Rex can make his points without all that. But he’s trying to endear himself to his team and he’s doing a great job of it.”

Last week we talked about Revis Island. Well, nothing has changed and it doesn’t look like it will anytime soon. The New York Jets rejected the all-pro cornerbacks offer and Jets owner Woody Johnson doesn’t not feel good about getting Revis back anytime soon. Actually, he told Jeremy Schapp of ESPN that his gut feeling is telling him Revis will not play for the Jets this season.

Other NFL news, the New Orleans Saints paid a visit to the White House and President Barack Obama. The President said the Super Bowl Champs were a rare team that carries a city through tough times. President Obama also had a funny line in regards to head coach Sean Payton’s second-half call during the Super Bowl. Be sure to watch the video to hear President Obama’s message to Payton.

Usain Bolt will not race for the rest of the season, The three-time gold medalist is cutting his season short because of tightness in his lower back less than a week after losing in the 100 meters to American rival and Kentuckian Tyson Gay.

In our first episode we told you about Shaquille O’Neal’s interest in playing for the Celtics and Tracy McGrady’s desire to be in Chicago. One guy’s wish has come true. Shaq signed with the Celtics, showing up for his press conference in a bow tie and Celtic green jacket. As for T-Mac,The Associated Press says that McGrady has agreed to a one-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.

Watch Shaq’s mother and other NBA moms play the NFL moms in a charity basketball game. Good stuff!

So, NFL training camps are under way and there are plenty of stories to talk about. Darrelle Revis, the all-pro cornerback. and the New York Jets have been unable to reach a new contract agreement.

While, Ben Roethlisberger may be suspended for the first six games of the season, but he is practicing with the first team at Steelers camp. Big Ben said the fans were happy to see him.

In Denver, Tim Tebow hasn't taken a snap yet in his NFL career, but his Broncos jersey is already the best seller in the league. Jockey, the underwear company, took notice of his marketing popularity signing the rookie QB as its newest spokesperson.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco are teammates in Cincinnati. The two are enjoying the spotlight and each other. TO carried Ochocinco's helmet and pads to the locker room after practice, just days after Ochocinco declared Owens the team's number one receiver!

And Dallas Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant, the guy who endured tons of backlash from his anti-hazing stand last week, is out four-to-six weeks with a right high ankle sprain.

Madden fans -- I have the BEST news yet. MADDEN NFL 11 is in stores August 10!

Four weeks after deciding to jump ship in Cleveland and play in Miami, LeBron James has a message for his hometown; Akron, Ohio. In the Akron Beacon Journal James took out a full-page ad thanking fans for their support, but no mention of Cleveland.

LeBron and Miami’s New Big Three will be making their regular-season debut against the Celtics Big Three. Mark it in your calendars -- October 26 in Boston.

This is a weekly show on all things sports. I scour the web and sum up some of the info I find right here for you.

So, If you haven’t been following sports this week here’s what is going on.

There’s a bit of an NBA Player Carousel goin’ round..First, Rumors were swirling that New Orleans star guard Chris Paul wanted to be traded but with two years left on his contract it seemed far-fetched. Well, after a meeting with the Hornets GM and new head coach Monty Williams; CP3 will be staying in New Orleans; for now. AND he supposedly did NOT request a trade. although According to CBSsports.com, Paul still wanted out of New Orleans when the meeting was over.

Tracy McGrady is working out with Chicago. On Twitter he’s showing the Bulls much appreciation.

Shaquille O’Neal is another unsigned free agent. When talking about Shaq the Hawks continue to come up but according to FanHouse the big guy has expressed interest in playing for the Celtics. He’s also expressed that he’s a huge fan of Justin Bieber; they even went bowling together. Moving to football...Cowboys Rookie Dez Bryant refused to carry teammate Roy Williams’ pads after practice. You see it’s a typical hazing routine seen in the NFL. Williams said it was a non-issue while veteran Jason Witten added “We’ll take care of that in-house. But really Williams is fighting to remain the Cowboys starting wide-receiver over none other than Bryant.

The MLB trade deadline is quickly approaching. Trades must be reported to the commish by no later than 4PM on July 31st. Here are some players that may be changing teams...Ted Lilly, Adam Dunn, Jose Guillen, Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt. The White Sox and Angels are looking for a big bat while the Phillies need a pitcher.

Other baseball news...Tampa Bay’s Matt Garza is fresh off throwing the Rays first no-hitter. It’s the league’s 5th no-no of the season. Garza hopes to further solidify a spot in the playoffs for the Rays against the Yankees and the resurgent Javier Vazquez (vaz-kez). One more note, Alex Rodriguez is still sitting on 599 homeruns. Arod hoping to become the youngest player to enter the 600 Homerun club. He turns 35 TODAY!

Ever week I will feature an athlete or coach in what we’re calling IC’s Fashion Statement. The standout for this week is non-other than the fashionista herself Serena Williams. Serena threw a house party in LA sporting a bold teal leopard number. It’s an ACE in my book.

And finally the quote of the week. There were several quotes to choose from this week...with Nick Saban calling agents PIMPS at the SEC media days. Then Grambling’s coach added, in regards to agents eyeing college players, that QUOTE they should put them all in front of a firing squad and shoot their ass.” His words -- not mine. But I decided to choose this quote from The Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations...David Kahn. In regards to his positive outlook on recently acquired Michael Beasley’s marijuana use, Kahn described Beasley as QUOTE..."a very young and immature kid who smoked too much marijuana" . Wow...I’m sure that makes Michael much happier after being traded to Minnesota from Miami. Kahn was fined $50,000 for the remark.

Predators fall in overtime to Cleveland, 77-70

Cleveland 77, ORLANDO 70

ORLANDO – Orlando (5-7) recovered from a 21-point first quarter deficit to turn the game into a back-and-forth affair. John Dutton’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Chris Johnson in overtime gave Cleveland (6-7) the 77-70 victory over Orlando.

Dutton outdueled Predators QB Nick Hill in an aerial battle for the record books. Dutton’s 36 completions, 53 attempts, 411 passing yards, and 10 touchdowns are all high marks for the entire Arena Football League this season. Hill countered by completing 21 of 35 passes for 291 yards and seven touchdowns.

At 5-7, the Predators are out of the American Conference playoff picture for now, but remain just half a game behind the final spot and the Alabama Vipers (6-6) ahead of their match-up next week in Orlando.
