originally, this monologue was going to be the intro to a new episode, but then i thought it worked fine on its own, especially with a song or two as bookends. not all of my conversations with GOD are like this, but sometimes they can be. certainly someone will consider this blasphemous, but in order for GOD to be tangible for everyday people, one would think that GOD should be approachable. the Creator of the heavens and the earth...approachable? why not?

i'm a Christian...one whose mind, body, and spirit is continually under construction. a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is an intimate one, which means at times God's going to get into your business and make you uncomfortable. it's all about getting you out of your comfort zone. so if that's the case, i have to think that an informal convo like the one presented is fair game. one should be able to worship GOD and fear Him due to the fact that He's awesome, but at the same time be able to confide in Him like you would your best friend. i believe that GOD wants that...but that's just me.

along with a cut from Damien Shingleton, there are two selections from Heaven's Radio, a DJ premium from wfmu a few years back. if you're into vintage gospel, i encourage you to download the whole thing - very inspirational and moving.

so...how have you been? let me just say that if you subscribe to this show and you kept the rss feed in your podcatcher the whole time that i was gone, well then...you're a trooper. seriously. words can't formulate the gratitude i have.

i mentioned the luckiest day of the year, but mistakenly dated it june 7, 2007. that's incorrect, of course. what i meant to say was JULY 7, 2007. beyond that, the saul williams piece that ends the show samples a bad brains tune called "shitfit." outside of saul's brilliant commentary, the bad brains sample is one of the reasons why i love this piece so much. there aren't many spoken word or hip-hop pieces that have sampled bad brains. only other one i can think of is "pass the mic" by beastie boys, which samples the guitar riff from "the big takeover."

the rat bastards at k7.net discontinued my voice mail. screw them. there's gotta be a better way. i suppose i need to go the skype route...

so this is a rant i wrote over four years ago upon the u.s. invasion of iraq. i was in the midst of a six-month period of unemployment when i wrote this. you can find this in print form over at my bsots blog. the last bit of dialogue heard is between Amy Goodman of Democracy Now and writer/journalist Robert Fisk. this just might be the best episode of this show yet, in my opinion...

in this episode, i discuss the last of the five phrases. i mention a gang in mount vernon that has the nerve to call itself the goonies. after this episode was recorded, a story appeared on a local news program about this gang beating up a 12-year kid because he wouldn't join them. his father tried to protect him and ended up getting beat up himself. what's more, supposedly the parents of the gang members are suing the victim's parents, claiming that the father attacked them and that the kids were only defending themselves. apparently, thug mentalities begin at home... by the time you hear this, simone will be seven months old. this show ended up under the editing knife for an extended session. that's not the way i like to do things when it comes to the sideshow. i like to just record it and that's it. but structurally it didn't work in the order that it was recorded, plus it was too damn long. the fat needed to be trimmed. hopefully the voiceovers are somewhat entertaining. on the plus side, there's some great music featured on this episode.

this episode revisits content originally made for the Radio BSOTS podcast, but it was never
a part of the feed. it was only available via direct download. it was posted to the site late june of this year. this show
foreshadowed the possibility of creating another show, mainly because it was vastly different from the usual BSOTS show. it was
personal, it was more talk than music...honestly, it kinda felt out of place.

and now that this show is here, i figured that it was as good a time as any to revisit this show. it is largely based on some earlier blog entries of mine, which you can find here.

the repeated refrain in mangomad's "so pure" pretty much sums up this show: "i need to wash away my sins / i need to stop before i begin." may as well be the story of my life...
