Since 2003, the Philadelphia five-some known also as The A.K.A.s have been bringing their Neo-Proto-Punk mission to the world. Equal parts energetic and enigmatic, the band has continued to make their mark by passionately raising awareness and raising roofs through their fun and anthem-riddled tunes. With the debut album “White Doves & Smoking Guns” (Fueled by Ramen Records), the band showcased their unique ability to defy genres with a signature blend of riff-soaked rock with vintage organ accompaniment. Both fist-pumping and hip-swinging, the music has been described as "Dancehall Fight Music."

Fronted by Mike Ski of hardcore icons Brothers Keeper, the vocals are belted out in sweat-soaked abandon. With charismatic displays drawn from Iggy Pop’s raw animal nature and Jello Biafra’s cynical quips, the band happily walks the line between punk politics and rock debauchery. On their follow-up release “Everybody Make Some Noise” on Metropolis Records, The A.K.A.s crush the line between The Clash, The MC5, and the B-52’s, with garage inspired guitars, pulse-driving drums and a dance-tainted touch of synths and organs. All the while, the band has toured relentlessly. With a live show honed from art gallery floors and basements to clubs and festival stages, the band has had the opportunity to share the stage with a wide range of characters; including The Bouncing Souls, Anti-Flag, and Dillinger Four,TSOL,The Dwarves, Streetlight Manifesto and Mindless Self-Indulgence. With an incessant work ethic, they have also become a staple part of the Vans Warped and “Rock Against Bush” Tours. Playing over 600 shows, The A.K.A.s have made their well-known slogan “THE A.K.A.s (Are Everywhere) an undisputed reality.

Back in the studio to record their much-anticipated follow-up with producer Jamie Woolford, the band of Josie Outlaw, Chachi Darin, Nick Carlisi, and Michael Camino, together with Mike Ski...are armed with an arsenal of new tracks that are expertly crafted with crass sophistication. Creative master-mind Vinnie Fiorello found their new album an opportune chance to continue working with like-minded friends. With upcoming appearances on every date of the 2009 Van’s Warped Tour, the band will once again be “Everywhere” ...this time with a brand new album bearing the Paper + Plastick logo.

Brand New Concert review of San Jose Event Center at SJSU 10/16/09.

I have been a fan of Brand New for years, and Oct. 16th was my third time seeing them live. I listened to their new album, Daisy, completely through a few days beforehand, and I hate to say that it is my least favorite album to date. Nonetheless, I was more than pumped to see one of my favorite bands perform, even though I expected the majority of the set to be new songs. However, to my surprise, I stood pleasantly corrected! They only played five new songs in a seventeen song set. Jesse Lacey was screaming his lungs out to the new (almost scream-o sounding) Daisy songs as beautifully as anyone ever could. The crowd, and myself, went crazy whenever they began playing any Deja Entendu songs-- especially during "Sic Transit Gloria", my favorite song of theirs. Overall, Brand New has played a better set, but they will never cease to entertain me and they will always be one of the best live bands I've ever seen.

The Riverboat Gamblers are a punk rock band originally from Denton, Texas, but now residing in Austin, Texas. The band currently consists of Mike Wiebe, Fadi el-Assad, Rob Marchant and Ian MacDougall, and are currently signed to Volcom Entertainment.

In 1997, former Blanks member Pat Lillard (“Spider”) (Bass), formed The Riverboat Gamblers with Fadi el-Assad (“Freddy Castro”) (Lead Guitar), and Mike Wiebe (“Teko Buller” or “Rookie Sensation”) (Vocals). Lillard’s original intention was to emulate Virginia punk-rockers The Candy Snatchers. In direct contrast to the popular emo music at the time, The Riverboat Gamblers’ premiere show featured over-the-top songs relating to drinking and of course, gambling. Tongue planted firmly in cheek, The Riverboat Gamblers continued to play house parties and shows throughout Denton and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Gamblers burst out of the Denton college scene in September of 2001 on the back of their self-released 7” single “Jenna Is A No Show.” Both 2001’s self-titled release and 2003’s “Something to Crow About” were produced by Texas punk rocker Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Lord High Fixers).

After the warm reception of “Something to Crow About”, the band soon relocated from Denton, Texas to Austin, Texas. The band first received attention from major record labels after their energetic and rowdy showcase at the 2003 South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas, but the band ultimately signed with indie label Gearhead Records. In 2005 they were signed to Volcom Entertainment and performed a stint on the 2005 Warped Tour, where the band was often noticed for its deranged live shows.
