Transferring your LPs (or cassettes) to your computer - how to?

LPs:

cassettes :
obviously you can Wire a cassette player's output to a computer sound card's input.

then Play the cassette on the cassette player while recording the sound using software on the PC.

Converting LPs and Tapes to digital is pretty much the same process. You simply need a stero system with a turntable and tape player and an axillary audio out port. After that you need:

A computer with, if you want to make audio CDs, a CD burner. otherwise you can simpoly burn the files to the PC and add them to your audio library.

Software that lets you perform line-in recording (meaning that the program records from an analog stereo source connected to your computer)

A stereo Y cable to connect your stereo to your PC. The cable has two plugs—one red and one white—at one end and one black or red plug at the other. Some audio software packages include this cable (see "Make Your Music Digital"). It can also be purchased at your local electronics shop.

Connect the stereo to your PC:

Take the red and white plugs from one end of your Y cable and insert them into the corresponding auxiliary ports on the back of your stereo. You can use the minidisc ports if your stereo doesn't have ports labeled auxiliary. Insert the single black or red plug on the other end of the cable into the sound-in port on your PC (located on the rear of most machines).

As a test, play some music on your stereo to make sure the connection is set up correctly. The music should play through your PC's speakers as well as your stereo's speakers. If it doesn't, open up the PC's sound control panel and make sure line-in is selected as the input source

Use a media management utility like Roxio Creator 2010 or Nero 9 to record the audio. These apps have built-in tools for capturing and cleaning the audio. There are also syand-alone apps them let you clean up your audio, like Izotope Music and Speech Cleaner.

So I have an Acer Revo 1600 and I'm trying to find a TV Tuner to work with it. My problem is that I am on DirecTV satellite and all the USB Tuners are coax. I'm not against using a break out box if that will work.

I want to use my Revo as a DVR and this part is holding me back.
