 He's going to be a household name someday, mark my words. 

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, now living in Miami, Florida, Carlos Bertonatti has experienced a fascinating life from an early age and has always been searching for ways to express his adventurous and artistic side.  He began writing songs in his early teens. On his latest CD, Times Are Good, he's hooked up with Multi-platinum producer Chris Rodriguez.  Together they created a unique and undeniably feel good album. It’s comprised of catchy hooks and melodies, acoustic sounds sprinkled with an array of eclectic instrumentation and Latin percussion. In early 2008 he signed the first ever joint venture record deal between Sony ATV Publishing and Epic Records with both acting as record labels.  Look for the release of Times Are Good some time later this year.  But right now you can listen to tracks off the album on episode 104 of DigiVegas...Welcome to the show!

It's pretty amazing to realize that these guys have been playing music for ten years, and they are only just now old enough to vote.  Twin brothers and co-founders Ben (guitar/lead vocals) and Matt (drums/vocals) Peterson were all of 8 years old when they performed their first gig.  They landed a major-label contract with Jive Records before they’d even finished high school.

I was able to talk with them while they were in New York City recording their debut CD.  The Petersons and bassist/vocalist Martin Lascano give us a sneak peek at some of the songs that will be on that CD, due out some time after Christmas.  They are excited to be in this position, and can hardly wait to share their music with the world.  As Matt puts it: “We waited forever just to make it to this point,” he says, “and now that we’re here, it’s like all that energy we’ve had bottled up is ready to come out. We’re ready to play – we’re ready to be everywhere.”

DigiVegas celebrates it's 100 episode!

What better way to celebrate the 100 show of an interview program than by sitting down and having a few drinks with a member of a band named Dialog, eh?  Get it?

What could possibly be the most heinous, despicable thing you could ever do to a group of musicians short of cutting off their fingers? 
After a recent gig, Las Vegas band The Stript had their band van stolen with all their gear in it:  Guitars, amps, drums, everything!

Jillian's, on Fremont Street will be hosting a benefit concert this Sunday nightJune 29th,  to help them recoup some of their losses.  It's going to take a hell of a lot more though, than just one show to make it all up, so please do whatever you can to help, even if you don't live in Las Vegas.

Born and raised in the industrial enclave of River Rouge, MI, this son of an auto mechanic and an Avon lady learned early on that hard work and doing the right thing always provided for his family.  He just finished his debut album, Blood River, with legendary Detroit producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Mooney Suzuki).  Each song tells the story of living life in a place that was once a burgeoning city and dealing with life’s trials and tribulations and has found fans in listeners who appreciate good honest music that comes from straight from the soul.

My guest this week is singer/songwriter Whitney Steele.  Her new EP is receiving much critical acclaim.  She is nominated for several awards, including Female Singer/Songwriter Of The Year at The 2008 Phoenix Music Awards.  Her song "You Won't See Me Crying" features members of The Gin Blossoms playing guitar and singing backups.  It's never a dull moment when Whitney's around.  One day she decided to pick up her guitar and head down to the Superbowl this year and busk for the crowds.  She almost got arrested while crossing over the border into Canada for a gig.  She almost broke her neck while jumping on a hotel bed...luckily we have it on video.

My guest this week is Jim Gaven (center, with acoustic) from Postmark Twain, from Hamilton, NJ.  They received much acclaim and created a big buzz with their first release Timing Is Everything in 2006.  In December 2007 they released their follow up EP, “Cause and Effect”: a five song voyage about letting go, starting over, and moving on. They met on a Monday morning. It was a rainy winter day and bus number 715 was nowhere in sight. Sydney was new to them. Nikka had arrived from the Mountains, Benny from Goulburn, Megs from the Central Coast, Pete from coal-mining country and Jonny from Paris, City of Light. On Tuesday some mixtapes were exchanged. By Wednesday Nancy Sinatra was slow-dancing with a Daft Punk robot, Tina and Jarvis were putting up a fight, and Karen O was French-kissing Engelbert Humperdinck. On Thursday afternoon a rehearsal room was booked. On Friday night Tokyo Blonde was born.

Sean Wright is my guest for DigiVegas episode #086.  Wright is a British novelist, songwriter, singer, guitarist, and record producer.  He's been around for a very long time, cutting his first record in 1978. 

Possibly the most prolific musician in such a short time in musical history.  He began writing, recording, and releasing an album-a-month in April 2007.  Think about it, 12 songs per album, times 12 albums, equals 144 songs written, arranged, recorded, produced and delivered in 1 year.  That's an average of a song every 2 and a half days IF he doesn't take a day off.

My guests this week are the members of  Light Of Doom,  from Escondido, California (suburb of San Diego).  They came in fourth place on The Next Great American Band, on Fox TV network this fall.  These guys are amazing!  Rarely can you find individual 12 and 13 year olds who can play their instruments so well, let alone sound so good as a group.  I am greatly looking forward to seeing and hearing their development over the coming years.
