Lindsay Katt is my guest this week.  She has just released her debut CD, Picking Out Boxes.  It is a collection of quirky, yet poignant pop tunes.  She has a way of writing songs that connect with people on a very basic, universal level.  She paints a sonic picture with everyday, down-to-earth, some say even mundane, imagery to which everyone can easily relate.  Escalators?  Vitamins?  Wine?  I predict she'll be a superstar before long.  I'm happy I was able to talk to her before she gets too big to return my calls and emails!  :)

DigiVegas 137 - JJ Voss

My guest this week is JJ Voss, from Regina, Sakatchewan, Canada.  hE grew up identifying closely with the underdog, outlaw music movement;  Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Steve Earle to name a few.

He's  been working on and compiling his musical resume his entire life, from playing in and managing bands throughout high school to touring Canada in the 90’s as a lead guitarist and on to learning the art of audio production, both live and in the recording studio.

Sean Patrick Baldwin is a rock/pop/acoustic artist, born and raised in New Jersey. His debut Cd is entitled Invisible. His new CD In The Midst Of The Raging Storm is due out soon. My Guest this week is 46 Bliss.  They are an Eclectic electronic ambient pop band from various parts of the country.  They live too far apart from each other to get together very often, so they telecommute.  They have a really interesting way of working and promoting themselves, and of interacting with their fans.

My guest this week is Savannah, GA singer-songwriter Dare Dukes. 

I don't normally like to simply cut and paste sections of a guest's bio as my show description, I think that's kind of lazy, but Dare's bio is so well-written I don't think I can do a better job to describe his music.

I had a chance to talk to Alyse Black again today.  You might remember her from Episode 083 of DigiVegas.

This year she was nominated for Grammy's in 6 Jazz categories for her debut CD Too Much And Too Lovely.  That's a remarkable accomplishment, even if one doesn't win.  Think about it, most musicians work their entire lives to even earn one nomination, and Alyse got 6 on her first attempt.  That alone is reason to celebrate!

I also want to tell everyone that I'm stating a new feature on DigiVegas.  Every once in a while, I haven't yet decided on the frequency, I will be presenting you The DigiVegas Podsafe Showcase.  It will be posted here on www.digivegas.com, and use the same RSS feed, so if you want to check it out or subscribe to it, just keep on doing what you're doing in getting DigiVegas regularly. 

Basically, The DVPS is an idea I came up with to feature more bands for the audience.  The interview show is great, it really helps listeners get to know the people behind all this great indie music.  Problem is, I can't cover very much ground doing one interview a week. 

The DVPS will be in podcast form only, and feature the best...at least in my mind, independent, podsafe music, just like the regular DigiVegas shows, but the DVPS will feature 10-12 songs an episode, from as many artists, with no interview and very little interference by yours truly and his big mouth.  It will be kind of like the proverbial mix tape, and this will be 100% guaranteed, certified podsafe.music from bands I haven't had a chance to interview yet for one reason or another.  So, if you're one of those bands and are excited to be on this part of the show, get in touch with me, and we'll see what we can do to set up an interview.

My guests this week are member s of the Detroit based band National Ghost.  you might remember them individually from previous endeavors:  Kunundrum, Weathered Tone, Vietnam Prom, Penumbrae, Stash, Some People’s Children, Thunderharp Choir and Robb Roy.  With such a great deal of musical experience among them, it's easy to understand why they are dubbed a "super-group" by Local film maker Jim Bonner.

My guest this week has been performing in the Oakland, CA underground scene for years.  Her music has been defined as neo-funk & soul but its roots go much deeper with an infusion of afro-latin/carribean rhythms, jazz, hip-hop, salsa and rock, blending perfectly to create a unique sound all her own.  Her debut solo CD Sweet Water Soul is impressing music lovers and critics alike.  (That doesn't necessarily mean that critics are not music lovers or that music lovers aren't critics...)  FEMI joins me on episode 122 of DigiVegas to share her music, her history, her thoughts on music education, as well as her desire to have the show's fans name my drum kit!  I've had the thing for about 3 years now, and it never dawned on me to name it, um...him... her.

Melodic Power Pop? Sure, but with a Detroit difference. With raspy vocals, nitro-fueled guitar solos, straight ahead four-on-the-floor drums, the assembly line is now cranking out brand new Motor City rock in it's finest traditions. Songs that get to the point in a hurry and stay with you long after the three minutes are over. R-E-S-P-E-C-T for The Respectables? Absolutely!

Paulie Podcaster's guest this week is former EMI recording artist Patti Rothberg.  Her song, Inside, broke into the Billboard top 40 charts in 1996.  She's toured the world opening for acts such as The Wallflowers, Chris Isaac, Midnight Oil, Garbage, Paul Westerberg and many others.  Things were going well for her, that is, until her record label went out of business in 1998.  Talk about the rug being pulled out from under you!

Hailing from NYC and PA, Daydream On Autopilot is my guest this week.  Lead singer Emii (center) joins me to share tracks off their new CD Better Off Alone, and to explain how this band walks the walk, as well as talks the talk. (or should that be 'sings the song'?)  They have made a conscious decision to give back to their community, and to society in general, right out of the gate, from the very beginning.  They are deeply involved in S.A.D.D. and Character Counts, reaching kids all over the country with their positive, drug-free message.  Oh yeah, and they rock really hard too.  That doesn't hurt their chances at all either.

My guest this week is one of the most active bands I have ever met, Hot Buttered Rum, from San Francisco, CA.   Erik Yates joins me to discuss the many activities and causes the band is involved in beyond their music.  Hot Buttered Rum makes no separation between their music and their activism. They unapologetically undergird their shows with songs about social equality, environmental responsibility, and political change, and then back it up by touring in a biofueled bus and donating their time to service work at schools, Native American reservations, and political fundraisers.

My guest this week is Donna Lewis.  You might remember her and her big hit in 1996,  I Love You, Always Forever.  It became an instant global phenomenon, climbing to the top of the charts in countries around the world. In the USA, it re-wrote the record books at radio by exceeding 1 million 'spins' to claim its place in music industry history as the most-played single ever, at that time.  As well as on her own material, Donna's voice has also been heard on a series of other hits. She featured on Fox Films' soundtrack for Anastasia - an album that was certified gold in the USA - with the song At The Beginning.

In 1999 she decided to take a big break in order catch up on her own life.  What has she been doing with herself lately?  While on "hiatus" she collaborated with various other artists and in 2002 Donna released an intimate, unplugged style CD Be Still, available to her fans exclusively through her web site. .In late 2007 Donna released her new Indie Album In The Pink, then released it in the US in Early 2008.

Joining me this week is Brooklyn based Indie rockers The States.  The States's razor-edged political rock has the uncanny ability to simultaneously sound like Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and the front page of the New York Times. Their inventive songwriting has been featured on ESPN, VH1, and MTV, and it has also made them Winners in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition ("All the Salt in the Sea") and Grand Prize Winners in the 2007 John Lennon Songwriting Contest ("Black Jack"). The band's latest release, 2007's The Path of Least Resistance, spent 6 straight weeks on the CMJ Top 200. The States recently opened for Candlebox at Summerfest 2008 in Milwaukee, and they are currently working on their 3rd album with producer Chris Grainger (Wilco, Switchfoot).

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, now living in Miami, Florida, Carlos Bertonatti has experienced a fascinating life from an early age and has always been searching for ways to express his adventurous and artistic side.  He began writing songs in his early teens. On his latest CD, Times Are Good, he's hooked up with Multi-platinum producer Chris Rodriguez.  Together they created a unique and undeniably feel good album. It’s comprised of catchy hooks and melodies, acoustic sounds sprinkled with an array of eclectic instrumentation and Latin percussion. In early 2008 he signed the first ever joint venture record deal between Sony ATV Publishing and Epic Records with both acting as record labels.  Look for the release of Times Are Good some time later this year.  But right now you can listen to tracks off the album on episode 104 of DigiVegas...Welcome to the show!

It's pretty amazing to realize that these guys have been playing music for ten years, and they are only just now old enough to vote.  Twin brothers and co-founders Ben (guitar/lead vocals) and Matt (drums/vocals) Peterson were all of 8 years old when they performed their first gig.  They landed a major-label contract with Jive Records before they’d even finished high school.

I was able to talk with them while they were in New York City recording their debut CD.  The Petersons and bassist/vocalist Martin Lascano give us a sneak peek at some of the songs that will be on that CD, due out some time after Christmas.  They are excited to be in this position, and can hardly wait to share their music with the world.  As Matt puts it: “We waited forever just to make it to this point,” he says, “and now that we’re here, it’s like all that energy we’ve had bottled up is ready to come out. We’re ready to play – we’re ready to be everywhere.”

From Alexandria, Virginia, Virginia Coalition has recently released their fifth CD Home This Year.  Lead singer/guitarist Andy Poliakoff joins me to play tracks off the album and to tell us why you should never say "we're making great time, we're ahead of schedule!".  He also helps identify for us the ever elusive, yet ubiquitous snore leper.

DigiVegas celebrates it's 100 episode!

What better way to celebrate the 100 show of an interview program than by sitting down and having a few drinks with a member of a band named Dialog, eh?  Get it?

After a recent gig, Las Vegas band The Stript had their band van stolen with all their gear in it:  Guitars, amps, drums, everything!

My guest this week is singer/songwriter Whitney Steele.  Her new EP is receiving much critical acclaim.  She is nominated for several awards, including Female Singer/Songwriter Of The Year at The 2008 Phoenix Music Awards.  Her song "You Won't See Me Crying" features members of The Gin Blossoms playing guitar and singing backups.  It's never a dull moment when Whitney's around.  One day she decided to pick up her guitar and head down to the Superbowl this year and busk for the crowds.  She almost got arrested while crossing over the border into Canada for a gig.  She almost broke her neck while jumping on a hotel bed...luckily we have it on video.

They met on a Monday morning. It was a rainy winter day and bus number 715 was nowhere in sight. Sydney was new to them. Nikka had arrived from the Mountains, Benny from Goulburn, Megs from the Central Coast, Pete from coal-mining country and Jonny from Paris, City of Light. On Tuesday some mixtapes were exchanged. By Wednesday Nancy Sinatra was slow-dancing with a Daft Punk robot, Tina and Jarvis were putting up a fight, and Karen O was French-kissing Engelbert Humperdinck. On Thursday afternoon a rehearsal room was booked. On Friday night Tokyo Blonde was born.

Sean Wright is my guest for DigiVegas episode #086.  Wright is a British novelist, songwriter, singer, guitarist, and record producer.  He's been around for a very long time, cutting his first record in 1978. 

Possibly the most prolific musician in such a short time in musical history.  He began writing, recording, and releasing an album-a-month in April 2007.  Think about it, 12 songs per album, times 12 albums, equals 144 songs written, arranged, recorded, produced and delivered in 1 year.  That's an average of a song every 2 and a half days IF he doesn't take a day off.
