Shane Halcon

At the age of 19, Shane retired from a prosperous career as a professional cricket player in the UK,to persue his deeply seeded passion in Electronic Dance Music. After returning to South Africa in October 2004 he began to develop his skills as a dj, and after only 2 weeks, Shane was already mixing perfectly, feeling he was ready to start making his mark on the South African dance scene. 

By the end of 2004 Shane had won the first DJ Competition he entered and was given his debut residency a mere 3 months after first touching a turntable! 

Since then he's performed amongst some of the world's top DJ's, held top South African residencies, and also boasts many international gigs under his belt.

Shane always wanted to make music, not just dj. He met 2 producers during an event they were scheduled to perform at, and together they soon after formed the "Grim Brothers" who became very popular in the Southern African underground dance scene as Dj's, producers and performers and ,in 2006,were amongst the highest ranked DJ/Producers in Southern Africa. 

By mid 2007, the Grim Brothers decided that it was time to go their separate ways. Each of the members were carving their individual sound and wanted to pursue separate paths. Shane opted for the progressive, trance and techno genres as these were the sounds that lured him into the industry. In early 2008, Shane landed a weekly residency at Johannesburg based superclub, ESP. Through ESP, Shane had the honour and privilege of performing alongside some of the world’s most renown DJ’s and producers.

Along with the ESP residency, Shane was head-hunted for the position of “Label Manager” by leading South African Dance record label, Sheer Music, who had long standing partnerships with Vandit, Armada, Black Hole Recordings, Toolroom Records and many more major players in the scene. With this new position, Shane was responsible for the releases of Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Markus Schulz and many more including his own, within the territory.

In the 4 years Shane spent as a professional in the Electronic Dance Music industry in South Africa, he had seen and done it all, and was hungry for more. He now resides in the south of Holland, and works full time as Artist manager to Trance sensation FIRST STATE, as well as Label Manager to First State Music.

About the Album
 
Glide & Swerve’s cloud-gazing electronica is the perfect companion to 2009’s summer adventures.
Mining a similar path to Lemon Jelly, Ultramarine, and Zero 7, the duo’s debut album, ‘Bring Back Love’,
is a beautifully crafted long-player brimming with horizontal beats, pastoral melodies, and Balearic goodness.
 
Glide & Swerve, aka Ivan and Simon, began life in Hong Kong as a production outfit and promoters of the
island’s most infamous parties (often 2 day affairs which attracted international travelers, ex-pats,
and Hong Kong Chinese alike). In addition to the DJs they’d fly in, Glide & Swerve would perform live
alongside several vocalists, occasional dance troops, musicians, and a video artist who would create
live backdrops on a 40 foot canvas behind the band.
 
Upon returning to the UK, G&S began working on their own material and remixes for other artists.
They released tracks and mixes for the likes of Pacha, Seamless, and 852, before recently signing with
top indie imprint, Gung-Ho! Recordings, the home of The Japanese Popstars, Burn The Negative, Zoo Brazil,
Petter & The Pix, Gus Gus, and more.
 
If electro pop is the current sound of Saturday night Britain, then ‘Bring Back Love’ is the soundtrack
to a Sunday afternoon spent in ‘recovery’. Forthcoming single, ‘And I Smile’, is one of the album’s vocal
tracks, and is currently being played by specialist radio shows including that of French whiz, Laurent Garnier.
 
Elsewhere, the album crosses downtempo beats (‘Inner Dub’), with dub (‘Falling’ and ‘The Journey Back’),
quirky lounge (‘The Last Stand Of Mr Dann’), and psychedelic breakbeat (‘Here & Now’). Soundtrack-style moments
such as ‘Lara’s Song’, sit neatly with the broken rhythms of ‘Feel It’, while tracks such as ‘Pure’ and
‘This Is Yours’ show Glide & Swerve can also take the tempo up a notch with ease.

DIGIFEST aka William Gets


Always been interested in music, was playing the piano when 6 years old Never quite directed my life to music, even though very passionate about it. Something always got in the way had a crasy life studying as a game ramger, working in the bush, getting married, back packing round the world fo 3 years came back to SA, again, instead of starting music I went into graphic design (gotta put bread on the table) ending up starting brainstorm advertising This company is taking up 80% of my energy but is giving me the resources to follow my dream of doing music have been able to buy equipment and put on events etc.


Done some great events in the trance market of Cape town
(digifest.co.za has got all the pics) have written one trance CD
(or coolection of songs to made availabel over the internet)
called Soul Trance which is due for release as soon as I can get the gap to sound engineer the compostion properly, the songs given for
this podcast are part of this first CD. I have tried to write dark aggressie music but I always end up writing uplifting trance. People have said that my music is so uplifting that they don't need to take drugs! So I have a bit of an angle where I challenge pepole to dance naturally and really trance hard until you reach that natural euphoria of sound synchronised sound and body movement When wife got pregnant I Got approached by feelgoodhealth.co.za to write a meditation
CD directed towards mothers and babies. CD is called Rocking Chair and is available at feelgoodhealth.co.za. That was a very interesting journey of writing totally peaceful, slow, meditation, ambient music in comparison to making it as fast and lively as possible. Am writing new trance music now. Working on two tunes at the moment, one for my daughter Amber a nd one called Afrika. These tunes will be heard live for the first time at our gig on 18 August. GOnna do some stunning decor, digifest and brainstorm is well known for our decor, so people are not only going to feel great from they music that you and I are going to play but the decor itself is gonna be uplifting!
