Turns out, my pine tree had fallen down in the storm that's been rampaging through Southern California, coming to rest against the eaves of my house! Luckily, my plumbing mains held it in check until the tree removers came in the morning. The pipes didn't break, though they were pulled out of the ground about a foot, taking my brick walkway with it. My roof sustained only mild damage. I lost a good chunk of garden, as well, but hey, Spring is around the corner and it'll grow back in before I know it.

 

Anyway, thought you might get a kick out watching my eyes grow wide... My mic is hypercarioid, which means it usually picks up NO outside sounds whatsoever, so the sound of tree hitting just seems like a little popping or crackling noise, but believe me - it was loud! I thought someone drove their car through my fence.
