Then we conclude the first season of The Navy Lark and end with a walk down L.A.'s mean streets and yes friends this was recorded in England with Philip Marlowe and the Raymond cChandler classic "The High Window." In this episode we continue our countdown to the Friends of The Magic Meet at Disneyland later in July. But we also look back. This isn't a King Of Pop weekend filled with phone calls and songs heard over and over again but rather a Radio 2 docmentary called "Michael Jackson's Masterpiece." It's Called "For One Night Illegally," and it traces the evolution of bootlegged recording. Anyone who remembers Springstein's famous line "Bootleggers roll your tapes." will love this show. Dixon ends its first run with us this week with George dealing with a gun toting soldier without Andy. And our boys in the Navy take a psychology test. Nothng unusal there but these are our boys. I'd like to say that if you like Pink Floyd you'll love this show ... if you're a casual observer of the band you'll like this show and if you love the band and its psychedelic sound this will go in to your ipod along with your Dark Side of the Moon album. This week after our jaunt to Arizona we return for more Brunch action.. We begin with our mystery in which a murderer has been caught ... but is it Poirot's man? Then we revissit that little island off the coast of Portsmouth where the seamen have hatched up a skeme to get duty free smokes. Unfortunately it's during an inspection. Then we turn to Pickwick. Since he won't pay he's off to debtor's prison. This is a hard look at English debtor prison and one should be reminded that Dickens himself spent time in the Marshallsea while his father was paying off debt. Enjoy.

Last weeknd was radio out of the past's third annual Christmas marathon. The shows were so good they deserve a replay. We'll be playing them in hour long incraments for the next couple weeks so enjoy. Certain shows will be longer. Episode 1 has Fibber Mcgee and Molly and Listening to Christmas Carrolls followed by Christmas with the 8th army with the BBC. We then listen to Treasury Star parade and a modern Scrooge. I finally got on Tower Of Terror and I've been meaning to talk about it at wttm and what with work being the usual postThanksgiving busy I thought I"d just say this. What the heck was I afraid of? I loved it. This week I start our Brunch with a bit of serial. Yes missspelling on purpose. We begin listening to The Spy Who Came In From The JCold this week. It's an espionage novel that's been numbered as one of the hundred greatest novels of all time. In our first episode Alec Lemus returns to England after being the station chief at Berlin's MI office. He's in for quite a surprise. I don't have a date on the episodes but the book came out in 1963. After episode 1 we have our mystery. It's our first look at Hercule Poirot. "Hercule Poirot's Christmas," by Agatha Christie takes place in 1938. This edition is from December 24 1986. Just who killed Simeon Lee? Was it his son David? Or Harry? Or George? This was in the beginning of the Holy Grail soundtrack after you were congratulated for buying the expensive version of the record. Anyone else have that album? It's the one that begins with this great classical music beginning and then the announcer farts after which he says "Oh sorry you can edit that out can't you? "Yeah no problem." says the studio executive. Anyway I'm writing that because this episode of "The Price of Fear," played by Fred Bertelsen does have some strong language. Just in case kids are asking questions. Ep 4 howver should be perfect for the youngsters. Anyway please enjoy "Come as you Are."

I gotta be honest gang. I'm worried about my co host. He had commented last night during the marathon he wasn't feeling well. I'm worried about him. I haven't been home all day though either. Btw on a Haungted Mansion note Bob Acosta's never been on Haunted Mansion. You know when someone's never been on a Disney ride I don't want to blow it for them. October 30 is the 70th aniversary of one of radio's classic shows. "The Mercury Theater On The Air's version of HG Wells "War Of The Worlds." It's a program which was ahead of its time as it told the story using news footage as oposed to ttelling the story. Ameiricans were just learning to trust radio and while it's never been confirmed that suicides happene people really did think thsat martians were attackoing New Jersey. John Beaulieu of Townsend, Mass will kick off our event at 7 PM EDT, 4 PM pacific time. His shows are as follows: The Sealtest Show, "Borris Karloff Throws a Halloween Party," and Quiet Please: "Don't Tell Me About Halloween."

Matt Cox will follow at 8 PM EDT with a Jack Benny show from November 2, 1941; "Jack Benny's Halloween Party," with Basil Rathbone. His next show will be from Suspense under the date of June 23, 1948 "Ghost Hunt," starring Ralph "This Is Your Life" Edwards. At 6 PM Pacific, 9 PM EDT, Fred Bertelsen will play one Halloween Show, �The Price of Fear, from April 6, 1974, "Come As You Are."

At 9:30 PM EDT we shall play two shows from Bob Acosta. The first show is an Archie Andrews program entitled "The Halloween Party." This will followed by an Inner Sanctum Mystery.

Okay so this horror thing needs a little lightening up. I mean let's face it there were Santa Ana winds a plenty this week while Brunch was being put together Dsl's were not connecting or disconnecting I tested new work software and yet and yet ... Brunch is on time. And what's on tap for Brunch 38? Well we start with "Billion Dollar Baby," a profile of Alice Cooper by a leading bBritish rock jock. After an hour with Alice we listen again to "As Time Goes By," and travel back 700 years or so to check on or favorite knight and learn what happens when "The Castle," gets a satellite dish. There comes a time when people make mistakes. Even the Great Big Bird of Sessamee Street fame or didn't you have Big Bird Sings when you were a child. Such was the case with Matt Cox last week when he unwittingly sent Fred Brideshead 3 for the final editing. Because of this and to keep the story current you're getting two episodes this week plus a Graham Green thriller from Fred. More about these in a moment but first a poll question. And so this week we begin Brideshead Revissited. It's the story of Charles Rider and his friendship with Sebastian Flight. We look back with Charles from his time as a captain in the infantry in 1944. The story really begins in 1923 with the introduction of Charles and Sebastian. Remember this was a tv show and a recent film besides a book. As you listen pay attention to the different classes. We then spin out of this world with Fred to finish Hitchhikers and return to the little world of Don Camillo. Enjoy. First off sorry on the tardiness of episode 30. It's ready but there are mamoth thunderstorms down in Mississippi so It's not quite ready for me to download and brin up here. But once I've got it from Fred rest assured you'll have it. Meanwhile back to classic brunches and episode 16. We begin with "I'm Sorry I'll Read That aain," a program featuring the Cambridge circus. You would know them later as Monty Python's flyin circus but the main voice you'll recognize here is John Klese. Please enjoy this bit of British otr. This week on Brunch we say goodbye to Dan Dare. After we return to Earth we look again at Jean and Lionel. Lionel's off to his lecture in Norwich and Jean decides to surprise him. Then again it's Jean who is suprised. Now in Fred's hour we begin with Falco and "The Silver Pigs." Marcus Falco is a Roman detective in the year 70 A.D. He's a publican and is sent to investiate a senator's daughter's death. After that we meet for the first time the man in black. Oh otr fans know him from Suspense. But this is the BBC edition and we'll look at "The Judge's House." For all shows this week accept for Dan Dare if you have yung children ... well discretion advised.

This week at Brunch a bit of everything. Mattt plays "The Belgian Nurse." This play was originally broadcast on January 13 2007 and is the story of two women volunteers with the UN and their friendship. It's deeper then that but give it a listen. After that we move to a show called "Great Lives," and a look at May West and finally Fred gives us a bit of "My Word." This was a fun serial for me. For we begin with Dan Dare Pilot of The Future. Campy? You bet. I mean come on Dan Dare is a hero from the fifties. British? I mean gang Dan and Digby are chattin about biscuits and tea while exploring Venus. bBut it's fun and I hope for the next four installments you let Dan in to your hearts. They've done no more Dan Dare since. After Dan Dare we'll listen to episode 2 of As Time Goes By. Jean and Lionel go on a "date," of sorts. Then Fred Bertelsen plays the first episode of "In The Valley of Fear." This is an Arthur Conan Doyle novel and I warn you. This is not Rathbone and Bruce but more of an accurate portrait of Sherlock Holmes. Please enjoy

Saturday Night Theater was a Radio 4 classic. And tonight's Brunch was no acception as we presented a whol hour and a half play. Remember the shot that killed Harry Lime? If you liked old time radio you do. This week we present "The Third Man," starring Ian Henri as Harry Lime and Rollo Martins being played by Philip Marlowe himself Ed Bishop or back then Edward Bishop. For those of you who don't know it's okay as "The Third Man," is what started it all. It spawned a ten episode BBC series back in the fifties after its release as a movie. It starred Joseph Cotton and Orson Wells. If you were a fan of the film you won't be disapointed with the play. Script is literally from screenplay. Enjoy. After the curtain comes down fred steps in to take us on the fourth installment of "The Bing Crosby Trail."

In this episode a new comedy is debuted plus a lecture and we return to our two great serials. Fir starters Matt presents the Mark Steel Lecture. Mark Steel is a frequent commentator on BBC Radio and a columnist in the Independent. In his first historical lecture he discusses Oliver Cromwell and then we revissit Chief Inspector West. After that we present The Klithrow Kid. Jimjy Klithrow was a sitcom from the 1950s and he enjoyed success as an adult playng an eleven year old. We then end with more great Bing Crosby music. Hi it's Wednesday July 30 and as it's my day off I'm uploading more past episodes. I'll be working on the new episode later today and remember after this one we're off for a week so time to hopefuly finish the past episodes. In this episode Matt begins with a new comedy Dial M For Pizza the first episode entitled Eureka. This is pure out of the blue sketch comedy ala Monte Python picture the goons gone eighties. It's from 88 so as weired as this sounds it's an oldie but a goody. Then it's back to Cief Inspector West At Home and just what is the Whistler up to? Roger's been reinstated at Scotland Yarsd but that bein said he's not out of the woods yet. In Fred's hour we'll hear "Twentieth Century Vampire," another comedy series that I kinda hope Fred plays more of. If you like it email us and let us know at brunch@london.com.
