Unfortunately the scale and complexity of the conference I was producing kept me from properly producing a show - but fortunately I had plenty of time on those long haul flights to think about the future and what's to become of it now that I've reached the 20 week mark. I'll be recording later this week to summarize my adventure not only over the past two weeks but also over the past twenty - it's been a great ride, and the payoff has been amazing. I hope you are all having a great transition into the swampy heat of summer - and for those of you lucky enough to live in the Southern Hemisphere, enjoy the snow!

For more photos from my trip visit my FLICKR site.

Keep it Burning!

After a week of hard training I somehow tweaked my lower back. It's more of an annoyance than a problem - but something I should take notice of. To my surprise the only thing that seems to be working for relief from the pain is this amazing little thing called The Miracle Ball Method. This deceivingly simple yet thoroughly effective set of poly-vinyl balls allow you to put just the right amount of pliable pressure on the sore area of the lower back and somehow allows your body to adjust itself to the pain. My guess is that this minature balance ball hits all the right pressure points to alleviate stress but who really knows or cares for that matter. It works and that's all that's important when you have a sore back! It's not a drug and it doesn't stink like menthol - and it's only $12. How can you not love this thing! The Miracle Mall Method is highly recommended by B20 for a holistic, non-evasive, non-addicting way to deal with muscle pain. Check it out from my links on this site!

I had to renew my driver's license today and it's something I generally don't think about too much but when I do, I realize that this little photo in my wallet will represent me for many years to come and in the state of Florida that equals six. I've had plenty of bad license and passport photos before where I looked more like Uncle Fester from The Munsters than my actual self - so I was prepared for the very worst. Outside of the airport, who would see it? At my age I'm rarely asked for an ID anymore.

Well today my friends let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised! I finally managed a good photo on my license and I can even detect the evidence of a neck. Six years ago that would have been a challenge because there used to be no difference between where my shoulders ended and my head began. Unfortunately I've been cursed with the genes of a gin joint bouncer.

I walked out of the DMV with a big smile and proudly shared my new photo with my wife. She was busy complaining about how her hair looked all dipity doo and she was stuck with it for another six years - it was a humid day. I wonder what my picture will be like six years from now. Only time will tell.

If you are having a problem I suggest downloading the show (right click, 'save target as') directly from the link below. It's funny how technology is destined to be harder than it needs to be.
Catastophic Failure! Another Sad Mac...

 <itunes:author>Adam Tinkoff</itunes:author>

Where's my BURNING TWENTY you might be asking... Well I'll tell you.
With much sadness and a bucket of frustration I must announce that my main production machine, a 2 year old (just out of warranty) Apple iBook G4 had a catastrophic failure and it's logic board and hard drive are completely toast. To my surprise I found out from Apple that replacing the logic board on this machine costs 90% as much as buying a new one. Frustrating? Just a little... and I'm not alone. I found a website that documents the problem and shares stories of other people that are having the same problem with this iBook.

So what does this mean to BURNING TWENTY? I've lost most of my show data (and all my music and photos). Fortunately I do have backups, but I have completely lost a couple months of data including all the production pieces for this show. Not to worry though - it may take a few days to put all the piecesback together, but the challenge is still on target and the show will continue. I just need a few days to locate all the parts and move them over to another computer (not a Mac)! I've been a Mac advocate since the early 80s - but now I think I've about reached my limit of patience with this technology. With great sadness I'll be leaving this operating system as platform of choice to produce this show. I simply can't afford to take another chance on a $1,500 box that may or may not work.

I've been around long enough to know that when it comes down to PCs catastrophic failure is inevitable - no matter what platform your running. So if you take away one thing from this post let it be this. Back up your data unless you can afford to loose it. This is no joke my friends. As the old saying goes, a file saved is a file saved... Onward...

My first instinct was to grab a handful of goodies and pop em into my big mouth and go happily on my way to the copy machine -- but then I thought twice... Maybe talking a walk around the parking lot is a better alternative...

So, if you find yourself in this situation at the office in front of a warm box of donuts or an endless bowl of candy. Think about how awesome you'll feel when you get into that pair of jeans you havn't been able to squeeze into since high-school. Think about how much energy you now have because you are exercising and eating good fuel for your body. Think about all those great comments you've been hearing from your friends, family and even people who don't even know you. Is it really worth breaking the commitment you made? No way. Office munchies and the gremlins that push them will test your skill in keeping your word - but it's all worth it in the end (and on your end). This was easy for me to pull together (about 45 minutes) and absolutely yummy!

Dieter's Tip: smaller plates make your portions look larger and (hopefully) fool the mind into thinking that there's more food than there really is. :-)

To document this challenge, I'll be podcasting my painfull (and often funny) experience of re-introducing myself to the discipline of regular exercise and a healthy diet. As you'd expect, each show will highlight my success and failure as well as a weekly weigh-in to keep myself accountable to this commitment.

- Will I hit a wall? - Will I fail? - Will I excede my expectations?

You'll have to give it a listen to find out!

Keep your ears open for my new show appearing this January on an iPod near you - and expect a few teasers late this December. Remember... Do not try this at home without consulting your physician, shaman or witch doctor and absolutely no wagering will be encouraged.

20 Weeks, 20 Pounds!

For more info and shameless self-promotion, have a listen to the short clip below.

[Listen to the Promo Here]
