Two years ago -- almost to the day -- I had my first interview on BookBanter with Brandon Sanderson. Back then he had just begun work on the Wheel of Time series, after releasing the concluding volume of the Mistoborn series. We did the interview after a reading and signing, out in the open, with little interruption. You can hear the interview here.

With the release of Sanderson's own brand spanking new ten-book series, The Stormlight Archive, with The Way of Kings, and the recent release of the second to last Wheel of Time book, Towers of Midnight, I thought it would be fitting to have Sanderson be the first second interview with the same person on BookBanter, on the second anniversary of the podcast. This time, I was only given a fifteen minute window before a huge signing (there was no time for a reading) in a back office. I knew at the time of the original interview with Sanderson, that the next time would be a big affair, but I had no idea how big.

In the short but detailed interview, Sanderson talks about how he was able to get two extremely long books written and published in one year, why he thinks he won't have any books out for a while, and some secrets to his favorite hobby: RPGs!

To play the episode click on the player below; to download, right click on THIS LINK.

Also, with regards to the BookBanter website, there's a new page called Librivox. The interview was conducted a little while before his reading and signing for his latest book, Galileo’s Dream, which is a science fiction novel, but is also a biography of Galileo’s life, as well as his problems in dealing with the Church. During the interview, Robinson talked a lot about how he came up with Galileo’s Dream, how much work and research the book took. He also talked about what got him into writing, what he thinks readers will get out of reading his books, and what he’s working on next.

Thanks go to Sunny Baadkar and the Avid Reader in Davis for helping to organize and provide a very comfortable space to do the interview (and that’s classical music in the background from Capital Public Radio).

Featured in the episode are my reviews for: Galileo’s Dream, A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire, The Burning Land by Bernard Cornwell, and Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons.

This episode of BookBanter is brought to you by East Bay and Footlocker, leading world suppliers of athletic footwear, apparel and sports equipment, featuring top athletic brands such as Adidas, Reebok, Converse, and Nike. Go to East Bay.com and use the code AFBOOK15 to receive 15% off your order, or the code AFBOOK20 to receive 20% off your order of $75 or more. Or go to Footlocker.com and use the code AFBOOKFL to receive 15% off your order.

Please join me next month, on April 2nd (I’m avoiding April 1st because of its connotations) where a number of things will be happening: you’ll get to hear my interview with the incredibly talented minds behing the renowned web coming Penny Arcade; coupled with this will be a full site upgrade with a whole new look, new pages, new items to read, new layouts, even more book reviews with better and easier way to access them and find them, as well as a host of other additions and new items such as the original BookBanter theme song and a special recorded interview with yours truly on BookBanter, where it came, and where I’d like it to go in the future.

Until next time,

Alex C. But most of our interview — after some initial discussion about Seth’s thoughts on zombies — was spent talking about his new book coming out March 2nd, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. In the interview, you learn where he came up with the idea for the book (which predates Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), how he went about writing the book with all the research. Seth also does a lot of TV work, which he talks about, as well as other projects he’s currently working on. There was a bit of an issue with the recording and sound quality, but the interview is clear enough and pretty interesting.

This episode features my reviews Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and the new book, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter :

This episode of BookBanter is brought to you by East Bay and Footlocker, leading world suppliers of athletic footwear, apparel and sports equipment, featuring top athletic brands such as Adidas, Reebok, Converse, and Nike. Go to East Bay.com and use the code AFBOOK15 to receive 15% off your order, or the code AFBOOK20 to receive 20% off your order of $75 or more. Or go to Footlocker.com and use the code AFBOOKFL to receive 15% off your order.

For more updates and news, as wells as thoughts and comments about books and writing, be sure to check out the BookBanter Blog.

Be sure to join me on the next episode of BookBanter, coming March 15th, where I’ll be talking with bestselling author Kim Stanley Robinson, and we’ll be talking all about his latest book, Galileo’s Dream.

Until next time,

Alex C. But there is, however, a new Star Wars book — a horror novel in fact — that was released on October 13: Star Wars Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber and I had a chance to interview Joe and talk all about how he ended getting to write a Star Wars book, what this whole process was like, what it was like writing some very familiar characters, as well as a some tough questions like: “What’s your favorite Star Wars movie?” and “If you could be a Star Wars character, who would you be?” Schreiber also has another book out simultaneously, an original horror novel called No Doors, No Windows, which is also reviewed in this episode. And since it was a pretty short interview, I was able to feature some other reviews in the episode: Distant Early Warnings: Canada’s Best Science Fiction edited by Robert J. <itunes:author>Alex C. Telander</itunes:author>

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I'm very proud to welcome bestselling medical thriller author Kathryn Fox to BookBanter in Episode 17 where we talk about her latest book Bloodborn, which is about a girl whose sister is killed, while she is raped and left for dead. It is the gruesome and heart-rending story of a girl wanting to forget about what happened to her, but needing to face her demons to put her perpetrators behind bars. But with the help of forensic pathologist Anya Crichton, she may get her wish to come true.

Fox also talks about the "Give a Victim a Voice" campaign she is part of with other bestselling authors Kathy Reichs, Linda Fairstein, and Robin Burcell. In addition to being popular authors, each of these women has worked with cases of sexual assault and domestic violence. Fox is very candid in sharing some of her shocking and at times unbelievable stories which become part of what she calls "reality fiction," as she inserts these real life occurrences into her novels. She also discusses what the average reader can do to educate themselves and others about domestic violence awareness.

It was a pleasure to talk with Kathryn Fox and share her thoughts and ideas on such an important subject that has tended to be pushed to the wayside in our society which abhors facing facts that are ugly and unseemly.

My hope is that through this episode of BookBanter, I will first help educate listeners on domestic violence awareness -- I certainly learned a lot in talking with Kathryn -- and encourage the BookBanter readers and listeners to gets others to listen to this interview and help spread the word and knowledge about Domestic Violence Awareness.

As Kathryn says in the interview, we want sexual assault and domestic violence awareness to become as focused, important, and as center stage as the other cause being respected this month: Breast Cancer Awareness.

If you would like to purchase any of Kathryn Fox's books, please click on the book covers below:

<a
