We decided on “Discover The Great Land” for several reasons. The Great Land is a relic phrase in some ways, but represents how the world once viewed Alaska. The word Alyeska (al-ee-ES-ka) which roughly translated means “The Great Land” is how some Alaska natives originally described their homeland. We feel that Alaska is more than just the Last Frontier, it is the greatest place on earth. Our tagline captures the action of coming to Alaska with the sentiment of how we feel about our homeland – all in one simple phrase.

Based on a recommendation by Orca Island Cabins, Scott heads out to sea with Semaka Charters on a hunt for halibut and other strange sea creatures. The journey begins in Seward Alaska where we meet with owner and captain Eric Clock and his daughter Anne.

Everyone had an amazing day of fishing and this day was absolutely stunning with sunny skies and glassy seas. Everyone caught something and some came close the 100 lbs mark! So get onboard the the Seafarer, where no bananas are allowed!

Special thanks
Semaka Charters for a wonderful fishing experience
Guests who put up with our filming
Job for roughing the open sea for 8 hours of sea sickness!

Alaska HDTV Presents: Hatcher Pass "Unknown" hike.

Greetings Hike of the Week fans!

We originally had another hike planned but the pass was not open through to Summit Lake, so the hike was diverted to a spontaneous location I've not hiked in over ten years. We'll call this one though a very scenic, family friendly, and not heavily traveled hike from what I could see. It's July 2nd as I write this and we've still a fare amount of snow still on the ground with early spring still coming through in areas above 2000 feet.

Enjoy the SHOW

Scott

Alaska HDTV

www.alaskahdtv.com

Welcome to Alaska Podshow's Hike of the Week

Bear Mountain!

Bear Mountain offers scenic views, while also offering a quick elevation gain. This hike is a bit strenuous in parts, and you'll want to be sure the trail has been free of rain, or ice as melting makes these steep slopes a challenge. The views from the top are priceless, and if possible bring a tent and explore for a day or two! In the fall season you'll also have the opportunity to see both Moose, Sheep, as well be aware of Bears. There are a few other late in the season perks on this hike, but we locals prefer you keep it to yourself once you make the discovery.

Music Credits: music.podshow.com

Null Device "Triangular"

Mr. Tunes "Georgian Winter"

Get more information on this hike at www.alaskapodshow.com/hikeoftheweek

Cheers,

Scott Slone
