    Nick Juliano

Congress agreed to give President Bush and the nation's intelligence agencies extra authority to spy on Americans just hours before lawmakers left for a month-long recess in August. In the legislative session's final week, news emerged of an impending plot by foreign terrorists to attack the US Capitol, and Republicans pointed to the reports as justification to expand the administration's powers.

"That specific intelligence claim, it turned out, was bogus; the intelligence agencies knew that," Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) said at a forum on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act organized by the Center for American Progress in Washington. However, lawmakers did not learn of the claim's unreliability until "the day" they approved the FISA expansion, she said.

NRA audience called for female protester to be Tased

At the National Rifle Association's "Celebration of American values" conference Friday, as Sen. John Thune (R-SD) delivered his opening remarks, a protester stood up and began yelling. The audience responded: "All these old dudes started shouting, ‘Tase her! Tase her!’" "Alas, security personnel just quietly walked the offender out the door, sans the 50,000 volts of electricity and — as NRA members might appreciate — 'more stopping power than a .357 Magnum' that Taser claims to provide."

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people

If, on the other hand, I refused to answer questions at all, nothing bad happened. So by and large I stopped answering.

The latest person to whom I would offer this advice - a bit late, admittedly - is John Coatsworth, Dean of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. For days now the American wingnuts have been hopping from one leg to the other in a perfect frenzy of confected outrage at the pending visit to the USA of Iranian President Ahmadinejad and in particular, the invitation extended to him by Columbia University to speak at a World Leaders’ Forum.

A top Carlyle Group executive is leading a panel tomorrow at a conference to teach government officials in the U.S. how to lease public assets to foreign groups – an event that barred WND.

Barry Gold, managing director in charge of infrastructure investment , will be at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City to lead a session at the "North American PPP & Infrastructure Finance Conference."

The government of Abu Dhabi has made an investment in the Carlyle Group, a Washington-based private investment firm with close ties to former President George H. W. Bush and his family and top officials in the Reagan and Clinton administrations.

Organizers say the conference's aim is to teach state and local government officials in the U.S. how to lease a wide range of public assets to international and foreign private investment groups.

Both the IMF And Bank of Japan Release Reports We Must Read!

    Elaine Meinel Supkis

The International Monetary Fund does its annual Alice In Wonderland report. All is not so well but who cares? The status quo works, doesn't it? Sort of. And since when have 'credit conditions' been normal in the last 50 years? And dear Miz Japan releases the Bank of Japan reports and statistics and I have lots of fun with them. Oh my. And the UAW, facing extinction, goes on strike because it is that or accept third world status for good. The US is rapidly giving up on the future. We hope the Cargo Cult will work enternally, all we need to do is ask the hell hounds to make more money out of thin air via the Federal Reserve, right?
