#629 Daily Source Code for Thursday July 5th 2007
From The Curry Manor, Guildford, UK.
After we mash some francais at the top of the show I have to delve in deep with James in an extended Yanks vs The Brits segment with a real conclusion and an opening for future talking and doing. PodTech is embroiled in some controversy and I come to their defense, sorta. And finally...pipes, channels and turning PodShow inside out to expose our beautiful insides. An hour of your lifr you will never get back. Listen at your own risk!

Hi Adam,
First off, I'm a British citizen, but I enjoyed yesterday's 'America Special'. Largely because the music was kick ass, nothing like a bit of James Brown!
Anyway, I wasn't bothered by the show at all. You were just being patriotic, which is something that a lot of people are in the USA (if what we see on TV is to be believed of course, haven't been there myself).
Thing is, some people think that being patriotic has an air of arrogance. Here in the UK, as you might've heard, Gordon Brown has been trying to reignite a sense of patriotism amongst us Brits, wanting Union Jacks flown from all public buildings, and more.
The British public don't seem to share the same sense of patriotism as their American counterparts though, from the discussions I've been involved in. I know quite a few people who say they'd never fly a flag at their home, despite being proud to be British. It's a bit of an odd situation, I don't think there are many people who're ashamed of the fact that they're a Brit.
The argument for/against patriotism is hardly a new one though, and to quote Oscar Wilde:
"Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."
Personally, I don't have a problem with someone being patriotic. If they're proud of their nationality enough to want to celebrate it, then that's cool, if not, that's fine too.

People of Arab ethnicity were attack after 911, does he have any stories he can cite, I was in DC at the time never heard such reports. I heard comments made to some narrowminded folks sure, but physical attacks I don't recall hearing of one.
