    great interview with doc

one of my favorite weekly radio shows is java's bachelor pad, broadcast on both a local community radio station and on live365 -- it's an odd mix of classic lounge, exotica, bongo music, spy jazz, etc.

it's a shame that this stuff may be made less accessible by fiat of the riaa

here's the live365 take on the situation

    Hi Adam,

As far a Sirius goes, I'm not suprised. Sirius moving the Podshow block to the wee hours of the morning was the beginning of the end. Until XM/Sirius either merge or go back to business as usual, it is probably best to stay out of the satellite radio market.

    As far as the interview:
Doc Points are valid. The RIAA/music license folk should not be able to use their power to kill an entire industry. That is anti competative should at least be looked into. No one is really making tons of money in the web radio space. The RIAA/music licensing groups should charge a rate that will give them the best return available from the new technology and not any more.

I think there is enough room for everyone (web radio, terrestrial radio, podcasts, statellite radio, et al) as long as no one gets too greedy.

I hope my kids look back at what we do as the new golden age of radio. It can be if everyone acts like reasonable human beings.

    Hi Adam,

I listened to the new show. Very cool new concept. Very interesting too. Maybe one thing to CSB: Try to talk a little bit slower. That makes the whole conversation much more understandable.
But it was great to listen too. Good show!!

About the talk about music licensing:

Last month we had a podcast meeting in Den Haag. NVPI and BUMA were there and made some statements about the whole thing. They told us everything about what we had to pay for playing music whyle doing a webcast or podcast.

I made recordings of them and converted them to videopodcasts. You can find them at: polderpodreporter.podshow.com

    Beware...all video's are in Dutch!
I could make them with subtitles...but that takes a lot of time. Let me know.

Wow, Doc Searls elevated himself from "Linux Journal editor who is evangelizing Linux" to consultant but anything with word "open" in it. I wonder how he managed to maintain "weblogs.com" in URL of his domain name although this domain and service were sold by Dave Winer and by the way service at weblogs.com was deteriorated MILLION TIMES what furthered proved that Dave Winer is a fraud who pretends to do things for community but indeed does it for money.

I think that there is potential in Doc Searls yet as savant - for example open source issues and Linux etc.

Regarding Sirius: it is sad news but also keep in mind that you didn't listen to my advices, including : a) you should give interview invite-yourself to Jay Thomas show that is listened by Howard Stern, b) you should try to be interviewed to Howard Stern to promote podcasting, c) you should generally meddle more with other Sirius broadcasters and maybe even establish a live phone-in so listeners of sirius coudl phone-in live and it would go to podcast later etc etc etc. Well, I have eternal sirius subscription so that I don't have to pay any monthly fee so I will stay with Sirius but please try to bring Podshow to Sirius, Adam!!!

My opinion: you will not manage, Adam, to have a guest on each episode of DSC. No fucking way!
