C.C. Chapman of Accident Hash vs. P.W. Fenton of Digital Flotsam

THE RULES OF BONED

The object of the game is to be the first contestant to reach 21 points.   Points are scored by correct answers to multiple-choice trivia questions over the course of three rounds.   Points may be lost by a failed attempt to "PASS THE BONE" (see below).

GAME PLAY
The first contestant to play in round one is chosen by coin toss.   The first contestant to play in rounds two and three is always the contestant with the current lower score.

Each contestant is asked five questions per round.

Upon their turn, contestants are told the category of a question.  At that time the player must decide whether they will answer the question or Pass The Bone (see below).

If the player chooses to answer the question, then the host will read a list of three possible answers.  These answers will appear in text in the conference chat window.   The host will then read the question.  The contestant has five seconds to answer.    If the contestant is correct he gains points.  If he is incorrect he does NOT lose points.

Passing The Bone:   Once per round, each player may choose to Pass The Bone after hearing a category he chooses not to answer.   This forces his opponent to answer this question with the following possible outcomes:

  • Opponent gets the question wrong:  Original contestant SCORES the points, and opponent loses his turn.
  • Opponent gets the question right:   Original contestant LOSES the points, opponent keeps his turn (but does not gain points).

The Big Hard Bone:   For each of the first two rounds, a question is available that is worth triple the current point values.  A contestant must announce their intention to choose the Big Hard Bone before his current question's category is announced.  Only one Big Hard is available per round, and once it is chosen, it cannot be chosen by either contestant again.  The Big Hard Bone can not be passed.   There is no Big Hard Bone available in round three.

SUDDEN DEATH:   If no player has reached a score of 21 after the ten questions of round three (five questions per player), then a single sudden death question will be asked of the contestants.  This will be a True/False question.  Contestants will enter their answer in the text chat window, and the first correct answer to appear will decide the winner of the game.  If the first contestant to answer is incorrect, but the second contestant is correct, then the victory will go to the second contestant.  If both contestants are incorrect, another Sudden Death question will be asked.

SCORING
Questions in Round One are worth 1 Point.  "The Big Hard Bone" is worth three points.
Questions in Round Two are worth 2 Points.  "The Big Hard Bones" is worth six points.
Questions in Round Three are worth increasing values until somebody reaches 21 points.  The first question (for each player) of round three is worth 4 points.  The second question (for each player) of round three is worth 5 points.  This proceeds until 5 questions have been asked of each contestant, or one of the contestants has reached a score of 21.
