I actually think it's healthy and brings kudos to an advertiser if they allow discussion. Besides which, Splenda doesn't seem to have anything to worry about being approved by the FDA, being used in a number of products and with usage determined by individual choice.

The last part is very important as people seem to forget in their rush to bring lawsuits (as with smoking and burgers) that no-one's forcing them to use a product.

Advertising works but it's not bloody hypnotism!

yes... the fact I went off the closet as a bi (Mac&Win) doesn't mean that you can use my comment to fill up your show.
    Just kidding!

This topic was expected and will most definitely be discussed on DSC, can't speak for other shows, but for me it was a condition for the promotion.

Alexm - you make a good point, a Google search on Splenda brings up some interesting reading material. As you say we can't get the flavoured version here in UK so doesn't really make much difference to us. I'm guessing Podshow shows will not discuss what both you, I and many others have read, as Splenda are one of their advertisers. It's not contraversial for Podshow not to talk about (although no doubt somebody will claim it is), it just makes business sense for them not to piss off their advertising partners.

Sorry to blow the party but I'm curious to know how you'd tackle a situation where a listener might have an adverse view of a sponsor's product?

Splenda could be a case in point (http://www.truthaboutsplenda.com/index.html) although it's obviously not an impartial site.

I have no personal criticism on this since we can't get the Splenda range of flavours (sorry, flavors!) in the UK and am quite happy with sugar but would you (a) happily discuss or (b) suppress?

Adam - no, no you haven't missed Bonfire night - it's November 5th, but a bit like Xmas, people have decided to turn it into a 3 week operation.

Office in Shoreditch - are you Nathan Barley in disguise?!?!?

Christina goes to university? no kidding! What area? Cloathing in Topshop ? ;-)

Generally you recorded this podcast a bit in a too big hurry, Adam. Try to relax and record this podcast in a way that it would be soothing for people and not just "hush hush, very busy, can't talk, UK biz of pod busy, bye bye, snort snort"...
