PlayStation 4’s non-custom hardware architecture a lesson learned from PS3, Sega teases title exclusive to PlayStation 3 and Vita, and developer of The Unfinished Swan renames unannounced game, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. Michael Denny, Senior VP of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, has addressed the lessons learned with the custom architecture of the PlayStation 3 by explaining why the PlayStation 4 will be “like a supercharged PC specifically for gaming.” Denny stated the reasoning for ditching the route of the Cell processor is because “That’s what the development community want in terms of ease of development and making the best games they possibly can.”  Hearing the plethora of developers praising the platform for its impressive power while providing development efficiency is very promising and should remove the possibility of poor ports and extensive learning curves that took place with the PlayStation 3.

While anticipation for the PlayStation 4 is healthy, the PlayStation 3 continues to show off its life and according to a new teaser website from Sega, the PlayStation Vita will be joining the PS3 for an exclusive release from the publisher. While absolutely no information has been provided, an animated graphic displaying falling objects piling in a grass field forming what seems to be a glowing sand pile with the date 3.28 displaying. Along with the Sega logo, only the PlayStation brand is present with the PS3 and PS Vita logos, so whatever Sega has planned for next week, appears to be exclusive to the PlayStation platform. Between Kojima’s GDC Panel, Battlefield 4 details, and now Sega’s announcement, next week appears to be very promising for the video game industry and I wouldn’t be surprised to see jaws drop with the masterminds behind all three announcements.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Giant Sparrow, the development team behind The Unfinished Swan is preparing its unveiling of its next project, but before announcing what they have been working on, the team made an interesting move by renaming the project “Edith Finch” to “Unfinished Giant Sparrow Project”. Giant Sparrow released a statement regarding the name change stating, “If we don't say anything then no one knows the game exists, but if we talk about it too much then no one is going to be surprised when they actually play it." Interesting logic from the team behind one of the more creative downloadable releases for the PlayStation 3, so hopefully come E3 time, we should hear more on what the creative team has been putting together.
