Apr 09, 2012 MLB's Winners and Losers Over The Weekend

MLB's opening weekend came and went and even though there is still 14 teams who have yet to have their home opener, every team has had a chance to blow saves and jack walk off home runs. Real quick I'm going to give you my winners and losers over this past weekend.  First the Losers of the weekend go to The Yankees and Red Sox. Coming into this season it was no surprise that most people predicted these 2 to be favorites for the penant. With jaw dropping payrolls that combine for a staggering 370 million dollars, both these team fell to 0-3.  It just the 2nd time in Major league history that both of these teams got swept in a season opening series. The winners of the weekend first off go to Miguel Cabrera of The Detroit Tigers and The New York Mets. In his opening series Cabrera went off, going 5-11 with 8 RBI's and 3 Home runs. The Tigers would sweep the Red Sox and Detroits lineup is looking lethal thus far. The New York Mets surprised us all going 3-0 in their opening series. Mets 3-0, Yankees 0-3. Who thought we’d be talking about those records after the opening series of the 2012 season?

My fail of the day goes Bubba Watson and Billy Paynes attempt at a hand shake.  After winning The Masters Sunday in impressive fashion, Bubba Watson went into the Augusta National Golf Club's Cabin to receive his illustrious Green Jacket. So what sounds so bad about this? The green jacket ceremony is normally stiff and in most cases awkward but this year's ceremony has to take the cake. Watch as Bubba Watson snubs Augusta National Chairman Billy Payne, with this handshake fake out. Payne will try to play it off and he's not fooling anyone. Talk about awkward.

The win of the day goes to Carmelo Anthony.  In Sundays game against the Bulls Melo easily had his best game of the year. Without Lin and Stoudemire in the lineup, Anthony racked up 43 points, while going 4-5 from downtown. The thing I was most impressed with was with 19 seconds remaining, Melo takes it up the floor and drills a deep 3 pointer to force Overtime. In overtime Watch as Melo is in the same spot down 2 with 10 seconds left. Melo  would shoot a deep three over a 6-9 Luol Deng and Ice the game with 8 seconds remaining in overtime. Knicks would win in impressive fashion 100-99

The must watch games is for tonight is San Antonio Spurs heading into Utah to take on the Jazz. The reason we picked this game tonight is due to the fact that The Spurs are rolling winning 11 straight with no signs of wear. This veteran team has one more run left in them for the NBA title and to me they look nearly unstoppable. More on over to The Jazz, a team that most people wrote off at the beginning of the season are now a team one game out of the playoff conversation. Utah has beaten every top flight team and with a win tonight, The Jazz would jump right back into 8th place. The Jazz will look for redemption tonight as tip off is set 9:00 pm et.Â
