Feb 24, 2012 Alan Wake PC Makes Bank and A Valve Console? - Press Pause Daily

The PC version of Alan Wake pays for itself, and Valve...console maker?

SHOW NOTES:

Story 1:

We’ve talked a bit about how much we like Alan Wake. The original Xbox 360 release of the game was one of our favorite games of 2010, and the recent XBLA release of American Nightmare is keeping things going.

Well the original game was released to PC last week, and has done incredibly well for developer Remedy. According to the developer, the PC release paid for itself in only 48 hours. On the game’s forums, one producer stated that “"We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours.”

This is great news for those of us who have been waiting for a full and proper sequel. Here’s hoping that this and good sales of American Nightmare will see that happen sooner rather than later.

Story 2:

Valve head Gabe Newell is known for saying  A LOT of things, especially when it comes to game consoles.

Well in a recent interview with Penny Arcade, he stated that Valve would think about entering the console business itself if they felt it was necessary. Newell states that Valve want the consoles to move forward in terms of technology, and thinks that if they aren’t doing it fast enough, then they might step in.

He told Penny Arcade that “we think that we need to continue to have innovation, and if the only way to get these kind of projects started is by us going and developing and selling the hardware directly then that's what we'll do."

You know, that might not be a bad idea. They already have an outlet for buying and playing games with their Steam service. Slap that in a box with some kick ass hardware, and it just might be the awesomest thing ever.
