He attended a local rock show, where he met two of his current Aeorsmith band members, Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton.

Before Aerosmith formed, Steven played the drums for most of his former bands.

In the fall of 1980 he was injured in a motorcyle crash, which made him unable to tour or record for most of the year.

During the Aerosmith reunion tour in 1984, Steven collapsed due to drug usage. Two years later, the band convinced him to attend rehab.

In 2003, he received a honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music and in 2005, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Boston.

He had his first daughter with fashion model, Bebe Buelle, who claimed Steven wasn't the father because of his drug problems.

Steven has three other children, from two different women-- Mia, Chelsea and Taj.

He got throat surgery in 2006 due to a ruptured blood vessel. 

Steven is currently one of the judges on American Idol-- he replaced Simon Cowell.
