Talib Kweii grew up in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, the son of a university administrator and an English professor. His family prized education and achievement, but he would find his way in dedication to a different profession: music. He entered the scene as an emcee in the mid-1990s, coming to prominence during hsi collaborations with Mos Def.  

Shareese Renée Ballard, better known by her stage name Res, is a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia known for her soulful Pop/Rock tunes. She began appearing on Talib Kweli's albums as a guest on Train of Thought  in 2000.

The two began a formal full-time collaboration as Idle Warship in 2008, releasing a mixtape called Party Robot to much acclaim a year later. Their latest album, Habits of the Heart came out in November.
