Want to learn new ways to get your children eating more healthy? Jaime Dougherty shares her healthy kid friendly recipes!

1.  Fruit Skewers-  A fun and visually appealing way to get your kids to eat their fruit.  Choose seasonal, organic fruit that will pack the biggest nutritional bang for your buck.  This snack is perfect for kids to make themselves the night before school.  If feeling adventurous, the kids can also make vegetable skewers.

2.  Tamari roasted pumpkins seeds- Crunchy salty alternative to chips and pretzels. Pumpkin seeds are high in magnesium and zinc which helps build strong bones and supports immunity.  Tamari is a naturally fermented soy sauce that is free to preservatives and MSG.

3.  Black bean and quinoa salad- A festive side dish for dinner that works well as a snack for the kids.  Both beans and quinoa are loaded with protein while the color and texture combination makes it fun to eat.  It also helps parents break out of the mold that snack food must be dry, not fresh, and come in a package.

4.  Dates and peanut butter-  My all-time favorite snack!  These are so good you will want to keep them for yourself rather than send them with the kids.  Easy to put together and a very kid-friendly cooking project.  A great snack to replace the granola bar, cookie and other sweet treats.

5.  Trail Mix-  Most trail mixes are loaded with excess, low-quality fat and sugar that are not healthy for our children.  Mixing your own nuts, seeds and sulfur-free dried fruit allows for better ingredients and customization to suit your child's tastes.  Have the kids make a big batch of their favorite trail mix and it will last for a good month or two.
