WTF is back, and here is Brooks and Carlos with some hot tech news stories.

   

1.Wisconsin court upholds GPS tracking by police.

Wisconsin police can attach GPS to cars to secretly track anybody's movements without obtaining search warrants, an appeals court ruled. This comes after police secretly placed a GPS tracking device on the car of a suspected stalker, who claimed that the use of the device violated his Fourth Amendment right against unlawful search and seizure.

2.  The New York Timeslaunches 'Times Wire'.

The New York Times recently launched a new news portal called Times Wire that is basically an RSS feed of its news stories. Although according to Tech Crunch, it isn't as timely as it could be.

3. AT&T to buy some Alltel assets for $2.35 billion.

A judge in the Verizon/Alltel merger told the telecommunications giant that it couldn't keep all of the assets it would gain from it's merger with Alltel. It was ordered to divest itself of some of those assets, and Verizon is planning to sell them to AT&T for an estimated $2.35 billion dollars. This will gain AT&T an estimated 1.5 million subscribers in 79 service areas, mostly rural areas in 18 states.

4.  AT&T may do away with unlimited data plans, iPhone to blame.

The explosion of interest and use in the iPhone, espcially it's ability to connect to a large amount of data has caused some headaches for AT&T. It has cost them billions of dollars in infrastructure improvements, and as such, there are rumors that the telecom may due away with it's unlimited data package.
