PLANETARY IS FINISHED!

Warren Ellis over Twitter - "Just heard from DC that John Cassaday has finished PLANETARY #27. Ravens have left Tower Of London."  Happy day, happy day!

DOUG MAHNKE NAMED NEW GREEN LANTERN ARTIST

OMG OMG OMG! It's been said enough on the show, we're Mahnke fans. Hell, we love the guy. Seeing him on Green Lantern is like a fanboy dream come true. Having him start with Blackest Night? Delicious.

FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH 2 ANNOUNCED

This time it's called the Nightmare Warriors. The first series was pretty decent, showing that Katz can not only pen a screenplay, but has a pretty decent brain for comic books as well. Hopefully, this series will keep up the horror goodness we got from the first.

McDUFFIE NOT ENJOYING JUSTICE LEAGUE TOO MUCH

So speaketh McDuffie:

Dwayne McDuffie: I wrote a scene set at their gravesite that I recently had to quickly rewrite into something not very good.

Matthew Murray: Do you actually enjoy writing JLA? It just seems to be constant editorial rewrites and bad art.

McDuffie: No, I don’t.

MORRISON ON BATMAN & ROBIN

A few tidbits of note: Morrison says Batman #666 has some hints as to the direction of this part of his run.  Quitely has only turned in the first issue, and the team will be a happy and bright Batman with a dark and violent Robin.  He doesn't quite come out and say they're Dick Grayson and Damien, but it's fairly clear.  Then there's this bit teasing the second part of the interview:

"and some other projects he’s currently writing for DC Comics including one book about the Multiverse and a second in the vein of “Watchmen” featuring the heroes of Earth-Four, who are all former Charlton Comics characters."

So we're going to see the Morrison remix of Watchmen?  I'm terrified.

WEDNESDAY COMICS

DC has revealed what their next weekly series is going to be: Wednesday Comics.  The name and concept are both riffs on Sunday Comics, something which used to be a staple of Americana, but which is fading into the mists of the past.  The series will run for 12 weeks and be presented in a 14” x 20” broadsheet format (similar to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal or USA Today).  The comic will have 16, 1-page stories each week, from some of the best creators in the business.  The stories will be out of continuity

On board for the project: Kyle Baker (Hawkman), Neil Gaiman & Mike Allred (Metamorpho), Brian Azzarello, Paul Pope, Walt Simonson, Dave Bullock, Dave Gibbons, Ryan Sook, John Arcudi, Lee Bermejo, Joe Kubert, Ben Caldwell, Kurt Busiek, Eddie Berganza, Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner and Karl Kerschel.

More on the art of Wednesday Comics can be found here and here .

McKEEVER LEAVES TEEN TITANS

After the just-about-to-start 'Deathtrap' storyline, McKeever is leaving Teen Titans.

“I did have future plans for Teen Titans but I just found myself needing to step away. I guess I'd have to chalk this one up to the vague and oft-used ‘creative differences.’ It happens.

“I do still have a working relationship with Dan and DC, as evidenced by my coming onboard as writer of the Ravager serial. I'm also currently talking to Dan about a couple cool and exciting possibilities for the future.”
Judd Winick recently left as writer of Titans, and as of now neither book has an announced new writer.

EVEN MORE BACKUP FEATURES ANNOUNCED

Another pair of back-up features were announced over at DC.  Greg Rucka will be writing The Question (with Cully Hamner on art) in Detective Comics, while Marc Andreyko will be telling tales of the new Gotham DA - Kate Spencer, aka Manhunter - in Streets of Gotham (Georges Jeanty on art).

GIFFEN TAKING OVER MORRISON'S ABORTED AUTHORITY RUN

From the "Why" department, Keith Giffen (with an unnamed artist) will be finishing up Grant Morrison and Gene Ha's aborted run on The Authority from two or three Wildstorm reboots back.  Congrats to all 5 people calling for this move (no slight at all to Giffen, but those 2 issues were the worst thing Morrison or Ha have ever done IMO)

IT'S WOLVERINE'S WORLD, WE JUST LIVE THERE

From the June solicits, as counted by Bill Reed

Wolverine count: 19 definites, 3 maybes
Dark Wolverine count: 2 definites, 3 maybes
Skrullverine count: 2-in-1 (Skrull Kill Krew)
Alternate Future-y Wolverine count: 1 (Fantastic Force)
Rocket Raccoon count: 1

Between 23 and 29 Marvel books will feature everyone's favorite Canadian assassin.

BRUBAKER LEAVING THE 'DEVIL ON HIS OWN TERMS

Ed Brubaker talks about leaving Daredevil, and the big note he's going out on.  He dashes internet conspiracy theories as to why he's leaving: everything is nice and amicable.

GREEN HORNET COMING TO DYNAMITE

Everything old, it new again.  Dynamite is adding the Green Hornet to it's stable of licensed properties.  He joins The Lone Ranger, Dan Dare, Buck Rogers, Zorro and the Man With No Name.  Dynamite honcho Nick Barucci said they'll be announcing creators in the near future.

ROSS AND CASSADAY COVER BUCK ROGERS

Just because they're so purdy.

MOST HORRIFIC SPIDEY COVER EVER

ANOTHER TOY SHOW, ANOTHER BLACKEST NIGHT SPOILER

Another batch of DC Direct action figure images hit, another (fairly obvious) Blackest Night spoiler.  It has to be intentional.

NOT MANY WATCHING THE WATCHMEN

By no means a failure, but certainly not doing as well as we hoped/expected. I guess this is what you get when you film the unfilmable. Or make costume fetish films. At least they've covered the production costs, right?

GREEN LANTERN GETS A DIRECTOR, AND MORE FILM NEWS

The Green Lantern film now officially has a director - Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Vertical Limit) - and a metric ton of casting rumors.  Among the beautiful people purported to step into Hal Jordan's shoes: Chris Pine, Ryan Gosling and Casey Affleck.  Guggenheim also teases that the GL film will be the first in an effort to unify the DC movies going forward, a la Marvel's path towards an Avengers flick.

*SIGH*  MORE OBAMA COMICS

Proving that the trend has not yet run it's course, Devil's Due Press has announced a pair of comics starring Barack Obama shipping in June.  The first is a one-shot in Mark Powers' Drafted, which sees the earth invaded by aliens.  The second is "Barack the Barbarian: Quest for the Treasure of Stimuli", a satire written by Larry Hama.  There is one particular image which will certainly ignite some debate on the righty blogs:

SEXY COMIC HEROINES GET TWEEN COSTUMES

Seriously, did a child molester come up with this line? This is a little more than twisted, although it's not a "dress up as your favorite porn star" line, yet.
