Episode #32 – 2008-09 Fall And Winter Music and Movie Review.

  Music

a.        Deerhunter’s Microcastle – this album rates a near-classic for KESS.   Worthy of every hyperbolic description you can think of.   And there’s also this: http://www.pitchfork.tv/in-the-studio/deerhunter-microcastle-part-1-of-2 .   “Nothing Ever Happens” is my fave, but there are no weak tracks on this seminal album.

b.       The Dirtbombs’ We Have You Surrounded  - Fresh garage sound with some amazing surprises, like “They Have Us Surrounded”, check out the song at rhapsody.com.

c.        Cloudland Canyon ’s Lie In Light - Check them out at: http://www.myspace.com/cloudlandcanyon

TRACK -  Cloudland Canyon – White Woman

d.       Airiel’s Battle of Sealand – more cool stuff from a band DJ TA turned me on to. http://www.myspace.com/airiel .   These guys are way more original than any of their peers in this class.

e.        The Black Angels touring with Roky Erickson – and are his back-up band.

TRACK -   The Black Angels – You On The Run

f.         Too funny: Eagles of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes is doing cross-promotion for the EODM’s Heart On (get it?) with…Denny’s.   See the crazy video on The Anodyne’s MySpace, or here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/144983-eagles-of-death-metal-make-new-album-pancakes

TRACK -   Eagles of Death Metal – Wannabe In LA

TRACK – The Upsidedown – Silver Wind

II.                   Movie and Television News/Opinion/Reviews

a.        Quantum of Solace gets shitty reviews – and Alicia Keys and Jack White do the soundtrack.   This is what happens when you put the director of weepy “Neverland” in charge of a British ass-kicking flick.   The movie reportedly needs a hell of a lot less maudlin rumination and a whole fuck of a lot more boots up people’s asses, with everyone getting hit so hard in the ass they should have called the movie “James Bond: I’m Going Hardcore on Your Ass” or something.   Instead “Quantum of Solace” is a very apt name for this one.

b.       Beverly Hills Chihuahua No. 1 at box office

c.        Body of Lies gets well deserved horrid reviews

d.       “Heroes” Season 3 may have jumped the shark.

e.        I said don’t go to see “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”

f.         Seen “Eagle Eye”?

g.       Do see The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

h.       Do see Valkyrie

i.         At least we have “Saw V” and another Friday the 13 th to look forward to.

j.         Joaquin Phoenix quits the Movie Biz

k.        Saturday Night Live has been reborn!

TRACK – Deerhunter – Nothing Ever Happened
