    Hi,
listen and enjoy the show ones in a while and find something new and interesting every time. Good work!

Glidedon beat me to it. Michael Crichton's book State of Fear mentions about the DDT mistakes. The book has many many more of those "scams" and the story in the book in some ways look alot like is what Al Gore is doing. Probably you've read it already, if not a must read for you guys. The appendix of the book about science and the holocaust can be found on the site of Michael Crichton http://www.michaelcrichton.net/essay-stateoffear-whypoliticizedscienceisdangerous.html

Just found out that he passed away last november :(

Anyway: just wanted to share this with you.

    Adam,

The DDT egg shell thing was proven wrong. So the whole environmental movement is based on a lie, just as you say about WMD and the Iraq war.

DDT has saved millions of lives and would have saved millions more if not for Rachel Carson.

You and John can really perpetuate misnomers on your show, although I still do enjoy the antics

Maybe you need an errata portion to undo the previous weeks damage.

    Adam,
Regarding Donald Rumsfeld, what administration are you talking about. Aspartame (nutrisweet) was approved in 1980, or during the Carter administration, I don't think he would have been a part of that administration. And in that lies the problem with most conspiracy theories, is that the are mostly crud.

I wanted to make two points relating to issues raised in No Agenda dated 10 January 2009.

You referred to the suicide of "a German banker", Dr Merckel. Dr Merckel was not a banker but a German industrialist with substantial business interests in the UK. Reports (including the BBC news report) say that shortly before his death, he had been trying to reach agreement with the banks about refinancing his companies. Dr Merckel's suicide implies that the negotiations with the banks were inconclusive, or that Dr Merckel could not live with the banks' demands in return for a refinancing package. Either way, I feel very sorry for his family, friends and employees, in the UK or Germany, or elsewhere. This seems to be yet another sad consequence of the banks' actions.

You also referred to the new energy-saving electric light bulbs, and the possibility that the old-style traditional light bulbs would be phased out, probably by legislation.

This enforced change is in fact already happening (at least in the UK). Supermarkets have agreed with the UK government to stop selling traditional light bulbs, ahead of EU legislation being introduced to ban the sale of the traditional style of light bulbs. In future, shops will sell only the new energy-saving bulbs, which are of course more expensive and are not as bright as the old-style bulbs. The announcement has led to panic buying of the remaining old stock.

In the reports I have seen, there has conveniently been no mention of the reduced brightness, nor of the mercury emissions from the new bulbs.

The reduced brightness of the new bulbs seems to be universally recognised; doesn't that mean that consumers have to switch on more lights than before, just to achieve the same level of brightness as the old type bulbs provided? This reduces and energy-saving benefits.

Thank you for a interesting and dynamic show - nearly two hours long, but the time sped past very quickly because so many topics were covered. Keep up the good work.
