Dec 23, 2008 The Year in Women

Going out to dinner with different people in life can result in varying choices of food. Many women change the way they eat around boyfriends, coworkers, and friends and the Mastheads of Marie Claire brought this phenomenon to the table.

Hungry For Approval
Fine dining experiences aren't always the most pleasant. There is pressure, there is expectation, there are nerves. Many times, especially depending on who you are eating with, your appetite can escape, or at least you act like it. But when you are by yourself or with your girlfriends pizza is never a problem and Dorritos go down oh so easy. Joanna Coles tells a story about her good friend friend who "eats like a sparrow" in front of her husband, yet when you get into her car, candy wrapper cover the floor.

Marie Claire's feature, titled Hungry for Approval , explores why this might be, asking the Masthead along other women how they feel about negotiating their desires for food.

Year in Women
Historically women have always lagged in the race for political, economic and societal equality... until now. With women like Hillary Clinton running for president, and Sarah Palin for Vice President, it is obvious that we are catching up to our male compatriots. Not only are we gaining speed, but developing role models for the future. Cathie Black , President of Hearst Magazine , expresses her pride that her seventeen-year-old daughter followed the elections, able to say that a woman is running for president.
