@CSB: Does it matter? There's no reason to be nasty to people. It's one thing to question people at the border, it's quite another to be nasty.
Yes, fifteen minutes is not a long time compared with Adam's two hours, but let's be honest: what's the point? The UK tracks people just like the US. If they didn't know before, what are they going find out now?
Maybe they regularly "lose" information... you know, on the side of the road... on misplaced disks... In that case, perhaps they should be apologetic.

Re: easy entry to the UK
The last time I went to the UK (from Germany), I was questioned for fifteen minutes, quite rudely, in fact. Very nasty experience, no wonder they have a big sign displaying the consequences for assaulting an immigration officer. The "funny" thing was, I was just staying for a couple of days, had a return ticket and valid residency permit for Germany. Hmm.
As to the use of the military within the country, this has been something that the CDU/CSU have been pushing for for years. It's also against the German constitution, but that's just one of the pesky things that these people would like to change. Laws and Rights are always impediments to these political parties.

good episode today because a lot of talk about USA and nothing about stupid aliens.
you mentioned 'somebody from Poland' entering UK and saying 'let me in' - it's wrong, for example I just enter UK and say to immigration officers: 'out of my way and shut up, don't ask me any questions!' but seriously: if USA would grant UK citizens right to live and work in USA, like UK citizens can in whole EU, including Poland then it would be different talk. Note that USA has forbidden entrance to USA to several British citizens, including known comedians and artists, including Russell Brand...
