Just a comment on the use of honorific tenses. The question is when do the parents start to speak to their children formally. Generally speaking at least in Ukrainian it starts when a child reaches the age of majority. The parents and adult children can live in the same house and yet be separate from each other. There are certain economic advantages to this. When there is no formal tense in a language the only way there can be a psychological separation from the parents (individuation) is by physical distance. Physical distancing is also a very Saxon tradition. The Saxons used to physically eject their children out of the house when they reached a certain age. I forget which Roman wrote on this but after witnessing this he was pretty offended considering how lousy the Romans collectively as parents used to treat their own children. When both the parents and children are speaking informally to each other this can be an indication of the degree of how fused the family is. In the southern states as in the Andy Griffith show when Opie used to address his father as "Sir" this is not the same as an honorific clause and tends to be a road block to any any intimacy which is the purpose of the way the military uses language,
