Indeed welcome to SS episode 13 for the 20^th May 2008 –

 

AND NOW FOR A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Now you may have heard, or you may have noticed the URL change, that points to changes at our hosting company "Podshow" it is now called "Mevio". This change is filtering through the Podshow properties and the UK is still at Btpodshow.com with redirects to Mevio.Com as required. So you'll be seeing the Mevio moniker more and more.

Now I thought I had made a soft landing from the Falling Theme of the last few episodes, but looking through the tracks I had selected on the PMN, I found there were still some great artists with Falling tracks that I wanted to feature, but they didn't naturally fit into previous selections. So this time we have a mellow acoustic feel, a bit of introspection, a lot of heart and a flight around the world on a whale.

Reminding me of THHGTTG, the dolphin in space, but this time its a whale, a good example of what can be achieved with GarageBand

Podsafe Music Network - James Harris

Staying in the UK, in Birmingham in fact, the venue for the last podcamp UK, shame we didn't get to involve this next artist – a great supporter of online music and info. I am delighted to highlight James Harris, with several MySpace Pages focusing on his different projects he says.

“For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed singing and writing songs. ... I joined a band back in the late '90s, called The Soil (aka "The Beasts Of The Soil"). After the band split up I decided to work as a solo artist and spent the next few years developing my songwriting and singing style.

Sheltered in Sound, The Music of Sean Nilsson

Sheltered in Sound, the musical guise of Sean Nilsson, plays starkly intimate 21st century independent folk music. The economy of words, mixed with acoustic guitar, harmonica, and looped percussion, has garnered comparison to Hayden, Mark Kozelek and the Nebraska-era of Bruce Springsteen.

In 2002, Sheltered in Sound released a limited edition EP, A Coming Of Age, which received national Canadian airplay on CBC Radio 2, and also airplay support from U.S. college radio.

The debut full-length album from Sheltered in Sound, Field Recordings from the City, addresses the solitude felt in times of grief, disillusion, and the search for identity once the innocence of youth fades. The album provides observation on the human experience in an urban setting.

The sparse tone of the album came together over a period of months, recorded in the off-hours at a downtown Toronto studio.  The late night sessions played perfect accomplice to the unflinching personal reflection of the songs. Producer and fellow musician Scott Cooper commented, "we aimed to deliver the songs with minimalist arrangement - music to lean into."
