EMB LEGEND:

I began the Ed's Mixed Bag podcast on Oct. 6, 2005. By that time I had already been bored to death by terrestial radio except for one program produced by NPR radio called, "This American Life." The in-depth and real audio heard in these productions was unlike anything else on the airwaves and served as my inspiration that an audio production could be of value if done correctly. In addition I had always, from my youth, messed around with analog music mixes on reel to reel tape machines and later on with cassette tapes. In late summer 2005, podcasting came to my attention and as they say, the rest is history.

The Ed's Mixed Bag podcast get's its name from the idea that one show can contain many genres of music and then evolve to also contain different contests and featured segments. With a new show produced weekly, I soon thought up a handy slogan followed thereafter by a 2nd slogan. The first one is, "Remember...If It's Saturday, It's Ed's Mixed Bag!" The second one is, "The Podcast That's Out of This World!" (inspired by my Dad's first and last flight aboard a 747 commercial jet aircraft). The graphic logo you see on this page is my own creation using Microsoft's "Word Art" feature in the WORD program. The street sign with the podcast's URL, was generated by an open source software program available on-line. With my background in photography, graphics, and audio-visual technical work, and with an assist from my musician-nephew, taking me from the analog world to the world of digital audio, podcasting became a natural fit for me. I taught myself basic html coding and let Libsyn (initially) handle the web hosting, rather than taking a course in XML Programming 101!

My First Blog at PodShow +


After finishing Show #41 early on Friday, had several account issues at Libsyn. I tried deleting the last two podcasts at the front page only to find they were instantly replaced with the next two in the sequence! The goal was to whittle my MB usage down from 98% and only 5MB left, to enough space for a 47MB podcast file. I downloaded show #'s 1, 2, and 3 to be sure I had them, and was intending to delete them from Libsyn's media archives. I began thinking, if this did not achieve the desired results it might be difficult re-upload them to the archives and figured their removal would not subtract from my total usage anyway. I decided to do something else instead. I went to the Settings > > and Advanced page. There the account holder can change the number of posts shown on the front page. I decreased this number from 10 to 6 and then uploaded the new show (#41). Surprise, surprise; it worked!! So check out show #41 here in PodShow + or at the main page at edsmixedbag.com or even in iTunes. If you are not subscribed the RSS feed is everywhere and the iTunes link is at the main site.
