Robin Taylor of "All Critters PodShow" recently asked a question through the comments section of my PodShow+ profile page.
"ok, I give...what's FOO", she asks?
Robin is, of course, referring to the "Foo" in the name of my weekly technology podcast, "WET Pod Foo". I covered this subject in my inaugural podcast, but for those that have not (and never will) listen to that show, I'll rehash "foo" here.
According to Wikipedia, "foo" is one of many metasyntactic variables. Huh? Quoting the Wikipedia article on the subject, "A metasyntactic variable is either a placeholder name (a kind of alias term, commonly used to denote the subject matter under discussion), or a random member of a class of things under discussion. The term originates from computer programming and other technical contexts, and is commonly used in examples by hackers and programmers". In essence, "foo", "bar", and "baz" are the narrative analogues of "x", "y", and "z" used in mathematical parlance.
In far simpler terms, "foo" is simply whatever subject matter I find myself discussing in my podcast.
This foo has been brought to you courtesy of Robin Taylor's great question. "Dig" her and her shows at robintaylor.podshow.com.
